Woo! Almost hard to believe you're at Volume 8 already. My favorite thing about this volume is how much they stepped it up with the characters' micro expressions. They just emote so much more than they used to, even compared to volume 7 which made some pretty significant strides in that regard. Also, so glad they updated Blake and Weiss' hair models. Blake's lego-ass bobcut was killing me and Weiss' braid looked so bulky and misshapen lmao

Yang has always had reservations about some of Ruby's decisions since arriving in Atlas, like keeping the truth from Ironwood, but she went along with it regardless because Ruby is their leader and her sister. Only now is she deciding to voice objections to her. Which I think is perfectly healthy and natural for a team, disagreements like this. Some people like to read it like Yang is blaming Ruby for what's happened, but I don't think she's doing that at all. She's just saying they should favor practicality more than optimism, at this tenuous point in time (whether that's true, is up to you to decide). Both plans have their perks and downsides. Notably, Blake has consistently sided with Ruby in Volume 7, so it's no surprise she's joining her here.

Voicing concern is fine, but you don’t do it like that in front of everyone. It was a dick move on Yang’s part. Ruby is not only her sister, she’s also the team leader. Not only that, Yang is as much to blame as anyone else for how things went down when she went behind everyone’s back to work with Robyn, who had been been officially branded a vigilante/criminal. Ruby made a decision but ultimately discussed it with everyone. Yang made a decision but didn’t even tell Ruby and Weiss, and when it came to light it made them all look bad even though R/W learned about at the same time Ironwood did. It’s a bad situation all around, but Yang is really in no position to question anyone else’s decision making.

@@AZDfox they might not have needed them on their side in the first place. Ironwood seemed fine about the whole “not disclosing everything” part. But with Salem knocking on the door, it seemed like Yang’s decision is what ultimately pushed him over the edge. From his perspective, keeping a secret was one thing, but actively working behind his back was a betrayal he couldn’t overlook. They might have actually been able to at least talk him down or reassure him that they could still work together. He was still willing to work with them even after Oscar told him the truth. Yang fucked up.

@@tommygunn704 Yang's decision to tell Robyn in the moment was a good one, it just had unforeseen consequences she couldn't have possibly known. And Ironwood had no business bringing it up when he did anyway, and letting it motivate his decision to cut off RWBY and co. right when Salem is about to arrive is nothing short of short-sightedness. They could have worked together on a plan to maybe push Salem back, and *then* they could hash it out. But to be frank, I question whether Ironwood would've been open to reason if they *hadn't* gone behind his back. A consistent flaw of his is that he is unable to admit that he is actually wrong about anything. At best, he'll recognize that some of his choices have harmful consequences for others, but will see those consequences as a necessary evil. It seemed like he was making some headway as of V7CH10 but as we know that didn't last very long.

@@tommygunn704 he was planning on abandoning Mantle. He didn't arrest them for telling Robyn, he arrested them for refusing to let him abandon Mantle. Even if they hadn't told her, he still would have insisted on doing that, and they still would have opposed him. They just would have opposed him without any allies, so they wouldn't have gotten Amity up, or gotten the portals made. Blake and Yang literally saved the world by telling Robyn.

Now onto the big one, 4. if Penny went though the portal, she would risk the safety of everyone who's made it through, both by making them panic, which would draw more Grimm in, and by putting them at risk of Cinder herself - two maidens having a fight in an interdimensional space isn't going to cause as much damage or risk as if they had fought in the desert itself.

I haven’t been able to watch this because of work and other stuff going on in my life, but holy shit I’m glad I did. With your rant over ironwood killing a councilor, you’ve officially become my favorite reactor. That shit was hilarious Edit: your comments about not continuing the series scars me. I know what happens, and uh. Well. No matter what you see here, finish the volume. I promise it’s worth it Edit 2: something I will say though, try to relax a bit. Try to take the good with the bad. And just to note, this is coming from someone who started RWBY when volume 3 finished airing (arguably the worst time to start RWBY, the only other contender being what you’re going through). I was in middle school then. I’ve grown up with these characters. Yes, it’s painful. But the highs are worth it. And a show that can make you feel this strong about its characters? I will say this… you might need a new chair by the time volume 8 is over 😱 This is a tiny, itsy bit thing, but when Ruby is reassuring Oscar at the beginning and she puts her hand on his shoulder, you can see him blush a little. Someone’s got a cruuuush~ But, uh, maybe he’s the one who’s going to be crushed?? This has probably been answered already, but your question about why Salem wants the relics is that the God of Light, the elder brother, told Ozawa about the relics long ago. He said that they would leave those relics- the gifts the Brothers gave humanity- behind on Remnant… and should all four be brought together again, the Brothers would return to judge all of mankind. And if they had learned to live together in harmony, the Brothers would rejoin them (and probably return proper magic to their world). But if they had not learned to live together, the world would be destroyed. Basically, Salem is kinda sorta on a suicide mission and taking everyone out with her. Looking forward to next week! Also for a side note because a lot of people missed this but in episode 1 of volume 8, in the scene where Oscar was sad about his plan not working and such, when Ruby puts his hand on Oscar's shoulder he blushed To add, another thing some fans missed was the plans that Yang and Ruby were good but it had it's flaws in it. Like Yang's plan focused on helping Mantle but in reality how long would the help last, especially how Ironwood is currently acting, and with Ruby's idea it was useful to some degree with getting help and a word out but the flaw is not knowing when that will come. I hope this makes some sense lol because the fandom was really on separate on this topic.

I do just want to throw out this reminder for you to keep in the back while you watch is how this Volume takes place over 48 hours and how that is affecting everything happening. Hey buddy… you doing okay there? Couldn’t get to this till the end of the weekend. So a couple of interesting notes: the way they split up the two squads is very interesting, because I’m sure it’s kind of a subtle nod. As you know, there’s a lot of shipping in this show and it gets a little… overzealous. But it’s not a stretch to say they split up most of the ships most likely to be canon in this arc because they had a story to tell and a lot of that obsession had become distracting and/or detrimental to the story. This is a theory of mine, anyway. Ruby and Yang’s split isn’t quite as bad as it looks on the surface: they simply are disagreeing about what is more important. Keep in mind, Winter has seen none of Ironwood’s actions up until now, so it’s going to take quite a bit for her to question his authority. Also, he seems to have a trigger word: when he shot Oscar and when he killed Sleet, both shots came almost immediately after he was accused of being afraid. Meet The Hound Grimm. He’s a good boy. He got an Oscar for his performance. Bill put salmon in the microwave, and Nora is pushing Weiss’ buttons. Also, Nora hitting all the buttons in the elevator is a reference to Ruby saying she didn’t do the same thing in V2. I’m kind of disappointed Penny’s directions weren’t the Konami Code. The conversation about someone being a part of you resonates with Blake in particular because she spent a lot of time with Adam. Like it or not, that’s part of her experience and what she’s doing with it is up to her to decide. Pietro can remotely control Penny. Does anyone else see a potential issue with this? So, what happened to Nora is she took on way more of a charge than she was capable of handling - basically the base’s power supply. She overloaded her Semblance. The scars that occurred on her are an actual thing - they’ve manifested in people with lightning strikes or electrical shock. Even though her Semblance is indeed electricity, she still has a limit to how much she can take and she went way over it, leading to her being in critical condition. Volume 8 takes place in about two days. Welcome to 24, anime style. The stress level isn’t getting any better any time soon. Get more water.

in volume six it was revealed that the relics will summon the gods when they are collected together, (like the dragon balls summoning shenron) when that happens the state of humanity will be judged and reborn or erased. its safe to assume that salem wants the gods to destroy her and the world along with her.

When all the relics are brought together it summons the two gods who made them to judge the earth. I think Salem is banking on them finally killing her, or at least destroying the world which would end her curse too.
