I had some friends that ran a newspaper for the little town I grew up in. They opened a storefront selling stationary and other little things while they ran the newspaper out of the second floor. They also sold Beanie Babies. Apparently new Beanie Babies were released on Wednesday mornings as they would have lines down the street of people waiting to get in. The owners would put out one hard to find Beanie, sell it at a premium then 20 minutes later "find" another one and put it out. They said they built their house off of the profits from selling Beanie Babies.

The mother of a mate of mine collected probably about 100+ of these toys when they were big, remember them scattered around their house. If I recall she ended up giving them away to charity shops because they were worthless. 😄

Hahaha. Last year I sold a few big boxes of Beenie Babies that we found in my mother-in-law’s house after she passed. There were so many and got rid them for $100. She must have spent thousands!!! Fads, am right???
