I just didn't like Mary Sue peach. I liked her in the games more. She's capable but still gentle and cutsy / soft. To much attitude, she feels like a diffrent character... like If they switched bubbles with buttercup xD

Not in the mainline games but the RPGs have her while still being kidnapped, being helpful while kidnapped and finding ways to help Mario as well as understand her situation and sometimes even help those under the villains rule. Meanwhile Daisy is the Tom girl who id love to see appear in more important roles.

But they gave Luigi absolutely nothing to do until the Very last moment of the last scene..Which annoyed the crap out of me. 23:04 I feel like the point of Bowser saying this is that as soon as he hears someone is being trained by Peach and Luigi hints that the princess might like Mario, he immediately becomes jealous and builds up Mario to be this huge figure in his mind when they’ve never even met, so this scene feels pretty satisfying imo. Bowser lets out his internal rage at someone he feels like he’s met and has ruined everything for him when realistically Mario hasn’t done anything to him, it’s all just in Bowser’s head that Mario is ruining everything for him.

14:50 I feel a lot of people miss something here. I noticed this on a 2nd watch of the movie, Peach told the council of Toads that she was gonna leave for the Kong Kingdom THE NEXT MORNING. She wasn’t planning on leaving right then and there. When she met Mario (a potentially concerned citizen) and heard that his brother was captured by Bowser, Mario himself insisted on coming with. She wanted to test Mario’s ability and see if he was capable enough to actually face the potential dangers. By the next morning, even though Mario (ultimately) didn’t pass the course, she let him tag along cause she liked his tenacity. I’m sure if he didn’t show any progress at all by the morning, she wouldn’t have let him come. Ultimately, she didn’t “waste time” training Mario, because as she said, she wasn’t planning on leaving till the morning anyway. She probably would’ve slept or something within that time until she left at daylight. You may believe she actually should’ve left right away, but that wasn’t her plan, so it’s not a flaw within the script. Whether or not you want to count her not leaving right away as a critique, her taking time for Mario was not. That part is covered. That one line of dialogue is just very easy to miss.

Most of the folks in my circles were either unbothered by or were looking forward to the movie; and they actually grew up playing the Mario games. In regards to the hate I think that a lot of people hated it wasn’t because Chris Pratt did a bad job, but because it WAS Chris Pratt.

As for the General Koopa, he was seen in several scenes prior to his main scene on the rainbow road. he's seen leading the Paratroopas in the intro and during the party scene but not much more than that since Bowser's army doesn't get that much of a focus other than Kamek. Same can be said for that Eyepatch koopa who is also the only other original looking koopa in Bowser's army and yet he shows up in about 4 scenes, has 0 dialogue, and pretty much disappears from the movie after Peach agrees to marry Bowser. That's a fault of the movie for having some really bad pacing issues and you can tell a lot of things were cut/removed completely.

My literal only issue with the Mario movie is that you know it's made by Illumination. Animation, while better, still looks like illumination, story, while Mario themed, still illumination. Still enjoyable of a film.

I sort of made fun of Chris Pratt as well, but only for because I thought he was miscasted. However, after watching the film myself, and seeing for myself that Chris Pratt actually respects the fans of the Mario franchise and is not an egotistical Hollywood piece of trash, I apologized for making fun of him and it is pleasing to see Illumination actually listened to Nintendo and we’re willing to work under a mentorship with them. I hope Illumination will not descend into the woke insanity the media has become. Great review.

I honestly think Movie Bowser was a VERY GOOD portrayal of game Bowser, the only real differences between them was that movie Bowser didn't seem to care for his troops like Game Bowser does, and that movie Bowser actually remembered Luigi's name. He was furious when Fawful and Count Bleck put his minions in danger and they were the main reason he joined mario's team in Super Paper Mario. He even forgave 3 traitrors who betrayed him and joined Fawful. And he does compliment his minions when they genuinely do a good job. So yeah

I was honestly impressed with Chris Pratt's performance in this movie. I don't know what people are talking about... Chris Pratt sounds exactly the same in every movie he's ever been in, and yet this is the first time where his voice actually kinda works (surprisingly enough) and he talks with an ever so slight accent that makes him sound a lot less like his usual generic voice.

I actually got annoyed at Twitter for the opposite reason, while I think this move is pretty good and is fun to watch, it does have some problems such as bad pacing and some odd character interactions for example. However Twitter likes to see this movie as the Holy Grail and believes it’s one of the best movies in history that beats out all the others, and while at first I didn’t care as much about them praising the movie. I started to get pissed when a lot of people starting hating on different movies such as saying they aren’t that good or the Mario movie beats it out by a long shot, along with Twitter attacking and harassing those who don’t see the movie as a 10/10 and had some complaints with it. I’m fine when people are talking good about a movie but don’t start slandering other people’s work or swearing at others who don’t share the same opinion as you just to make the thing you like look better, it helps no one.

I will say, you're right. The voice acting wasn't absolutely terrible. It was, as you said, fine. But for a big time movie for a franchise as big as Super Mario, and how its loved by so many people around the globe, I feel like we shouldn't hire professional actors just to set the bar at just "fine". Not only does this please the loyal and long time fans, but it also helps to pull new audiences into the vibrant world of Super Mario. I'm not saying Chris Pratt should never have been casted as Mario, and im sure voice acting is not easy, but just a little more enthusiasm. The movie is actually pretty good, i was nervous about the fact Illumination was the studio that made it but it turned out really good! The only complain is that the pacing was really fast since an hour wasn't enough to cover every point with enough screentime, but maybe if they made a sequel (due to the yoshi egg ending) maybe this time they could slow down the pacing but anyways it's a good movie for killing time, not every movie needs to have a profund note anyways

The only thing that really PISSED ME OFF, is that they had so good content, and then... it was cut. For example the original Mario entering the mushroom kingdom soundtrack was perfect, but it was replaced with a generic track, but remixed, as if we hadn't enough remixes of the same tracks again and again and again and again and again and again. But the worse thing: they took "Drivin' me bananas" and replaced it with an ancient song. everyone has already heard thousands and thousands of times. What's so great about this song? Right, NOTHING, it's not original, it's overused and in my opinion not even good. Oh and btw: They cut the GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF part too :(. !--> Still my favourite movie of all time!

Was actually surprised how much I enjoyed the movie, only played the Mario Kart game. Only voice actors I didn't like was Cranky Kong and Donkey Kong, their voices didn't seem to match. Other than that I thought the movie was pretty good, voices, animation, story, definitely a film i've watched several times and enjoyed each time.

The hate for Chris Pratt was fucking terrible. He did great as Mario, there wasn't anything wrong with him, nor was there anything wrong with any other voice actor. The movie in my opinion was cool, the animation, visuals, references to the games "power up wise", Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen was pretty entertaining, and the music. But if there is anything I didn't like, the pacing was way too fast. I feel as if there was more that could have been explored, but that's pretty much it.

The reason why Charlie Day as Luigi isn't bad is because he's actually voice acting well and sounds genuine. Idgaf that he doesn't sound exactly like Luigi, I care that he sounded skittish and nervous like Luigi should, and that his delivery felt genuine, and that's why everyone else liked him too. The same couldn't be said about most of Chris's delivery, which was a shame because he was damn good in the Lego Movie.

To be honest, most of the complaints were the movie plot was too safe and bland. but I don't really care, I think it's a good plot for a 1st--- (eer I mean) 2nd movie. What I kinda don't like about the movie was the pacing and the lack of character development.

I saw this in theaters with another like minded friend in April, and wow! It was immaculate. I clapped when I saw the references. As for the by the numbers plot, I think it makes the film more faithful to the source material seeing how most Mario games have a fairly basic plot, barring a few exceptions like most Mario RPG games. I just ordered the Power Up Edition from Amazon to show this to the kids at work on Thursday.

Tbh I think the hate was fueled by the fact that Pratt is basic of all basic actors to pick and tbh the trailers made him sound like he was just doing it for a pay check and his very very minor fumble with the stomping koopas and pausing durring it made it worse it didn’t ruin the movie he did fine and the backlash probs made him re-record lines I think the wahoo was re-recorded I’m not sure I say the hate was 50% fair and the rest was toxic and unneeded harassment even I really dislike him (mostly due to my family hating him) i wouldn’t go harass him I mostly compared the voice to emmet which is just his voice but with Mario he has a small accent to it Chris having a basic voice for mario isn’t something to burn people over yes we could of had better we just have to deal with it and Chris did a perfectly fine voice it isn’t bad

I’m amazed how everyone did an amazing job! At first yeah I was one of those guys who thought that Chris Pratt wasn’t going to make it but the trailers and the movie itself proved me wrong! After the countless of memes of Chris, Charlie, Jack, and Seth in the Mario movie I am impressed that everyone loved I! So did I my family and I went to go see it after it’s released in theaters and everyone loved it especially that little blue luma that was ready to commit die lol but after seeing Yoshi island and then the OG Yoshi egg at the end, as a hard Yoshi fan I am so Happy that they got them in the spotlight! Even if it was just a nod that’s all that matters!

Short Review: Visuals are great, animation is fantastic, jack black is a national treasure. Chris pratt did a decent job even though I think marios OG voice actor would have been better. Peach and Mario's relationship feels like a Player 1 teacher player 2 the wropes. Which I adore! Peach crashing her own wedding and Mario comming in afterwards felt kinda Clunky. Bowser threatens the destruction of the Mushroom kingdom and peach acts kinda reckless NGL. Pacing was fast, like jesus christ slow down. Power ups where perfect! Worldbuilding is superb! Peaches song is endlessly enjoyable! And Donkey kong is still by far the worst voice actor. Nothing on that front has changed. 7/10 a very enjoyable film. Im happy to see more. But I will be expecting higher standards for the Nintendo films going forward. Especially the inevitable Zelda Film series.

I really disliked how the only reason Peach was forced to agree to marry Bowser was because he had a Toad he could harm. If Toad had just left like Peach told him, Bowser couldn't have done anything to Peach :/ I feel like that could've been thought out better

He could still threaten to kill the other Toads or straight up destroy the kingdom, he had the Bomber Bill to do so. Peach would be forced to marry him either way. And hey, Toad being with her allowed him to eventually smuggle her the ice flower cuz if Toad weren't with Peach, the Koopas wouldn't just allow him to enter Bowser's castle.

The rest of the Toads were gone; sure Bowser could destroy the kingdom or try and search for them but he wouldn't be as much of an immediate threat to the rest of them as he was to Toad who was already with Peach. He was in immediate danger and Peach couldn't do anything about it. If he wasn't there, Bowser wouldn't have anyone to threaten but Peach. And we know Peach would sacrifice herself for her Toads.
