You managed the game very well and professionally, but glad that the efforts of the Newcastle players are acknowledged by the opposition. Well done Man UTD. Good cup final to watch. I don't think we troubled you too much from a scoring perspective, but after 20 years of drivel, it's great to see the team comfortable in possession and at least trying to go "toe-to-toe", with very good and in-form team. It is not all doom and gloom. I'm proud of the boys for everything they put in. At the end of the day, Man Utd had more quality and experience on the day and were worthy winners of the cup. Casemiro and Varane understand how to manage a final and win finals. This is the first time Eddie has been to one. Hopefully, our trophy drought ends next season and we keep on rebuilding the club after 14 years of Gastly neglect. To think we were in a relegation battle last year with 10 points before Christmas 2021 to a cup final in Eddies first full season is impressive. So let's not get too down about it.

Another humble comment. From a Newcastle fan, thank you. We just want a team that competes. We were second best on the stats that matter today, but I can't remember the last time we had high levels of possession against man UTD, so for that I take pride. This said, cutting edge lacked, but largely due to a fantastic defensive performance and game plan. No disrespect at all; the subs Man UTD made saw the game through, but it shows how far Newcastle have come that a leading team bolsters midfield and defences in response to increased possession. Great game. Newcastle players can hold their heads high, but Man UTD, in my mind are likely to be winning more than this, this season. Essentially Ten Haag has done what Eddie Howe has done ie add quality, but also coach and improve existing players. One in particular, is quickly becoming one of the best players on the planet. Well done, hopefully see you next year.

With the squad we've got it's very telling how far behind top clubs we actually are. The depth of their bench, their final/big game experience, saw them over the line. All of this along with a run in form for them and a drop off for us. Just wasn't meant to be fair play to United and Ten haag for getting it spot on managing the game well in the big moments. We will come again I just hope we are a completely different squad.

Eddie Howe has done exceptionally well. Transforming a club and getting results is a long and methodical process. Should not expect immediate results. EtH has done that because he was understudy with Pep and achieved results with Ajax. How many times has Eddie or any of his players reach a cup final, and how many times has he or any players won a cup final? Even SAF took a few seasons at Champions league to finally win it. So do it be despaired or crestfallen. Go back and analyse and make adjustments, recruit players and staff judiciously. The positive he now has is the rich and strong financial backing. Interesting the league position difference between Newcastle and Chelsea. As a United fan I see the ascendancy of Newcky as better than the ascendancy of a team that as spent so much money. No negative on Potter, I think he is a good guy and a good manager, but Eddie has done better with what he has at his disposal. Loving the humility on this thread. Rarely comment on here, but things need acknowledging. My beloved Newcastle can hold their heads high today. Yes, they lacked cutting edge, but I actually believe this was due to an extremely well organized defensive and midfield Manchester United unit. I see similarities in Ten Haag and Eddie; both managers can improve existing players dramatically, and add players to bolster, not only the squad, but the spirit of the team. In the moment, as opposition, you hate Martinez, but looking back, what a great competitor. We went toe to toe. We lost. But my oh my, what a journey both these teams have had over the last twelve months. Good luck with the rest of the season.

An overreliance on physical attacks on opponent players and other dirty tricks, like Championship teams tend to use when they can't compete using just footballing skills. Dirty and negative football is still your remedy and with dirty Saudi money backing you it may take you far, who knows?
