Bear Attacks, Drags and Kills Bison in Yellowstone National Park

Shocking video shows a Yellowstone National Park Grizzly Bear attacking, and eventually, killing a Wild Bison near a public parking lot!
"We knew the bear was in the area, as we saw it near the road, less than a mile before turning into the parking lot for the grand Prismatic Overlook hike. While there was a steady flow of walkers, we carried bear spray and remained on the lookout for the bear the entire time.
We weren’t crazy about returning to find the bear so close, just beyond the opposite side of the small parking area. We didn’t even see it until we were at our vehicle. I was particularly relieved that the bear seemed more interested in the bison, so while very close to the car, we simply maintained what felt like a safe distance.
Having lived nearby for decades not minutes, we certainly don’t want our actions or the appearance of our proximity to the animals to set any kind of bad example about approaching wildlife. The camera on this phone boasts a pretty amazing lens and zoom capabilities. So I was able to get all the shots from further than it may appear. The kids enjoyed watching safely from the sunroof of the car. Thanks for the concern, just the same.
Thanks too for all the feedback and comments on my spelling (loser v looser? Fat fingers for sure!). And thanks for the feedback on the music as well! Didn’t know that either would bring out such negative comments by a handful of complete strangers with so much time on their hands?! This was not made for them!
Unfortunately I don’t know how to fix these and still keep the same link to the video. Plus to replace the music with the sounds of nature, I would have had to try to figure out how to edit in a bunch of fake nature noises to drown out all the wind noise. The allowable rights-free KZbin tracks seemed easiest at the time. Apologies to music lovers and lovers of natural sounds alike!"

A bears stamina is scary insane. A healthy adult bear could sustain a full power attack on another animal for several hours. There is no getting away either, even a bear fattening up to hibernate can run in excess of 25mph and they don’t really have a distance limit. Literally they can outrun the best distance runners in the world! Thankfully bears are smart and most likely would not invest that much effort into anything non survival related.
@theacechip
@theacechip 3 жыл бұрын
@@PlanetBlake Bears are fast, considering their shape and size, but lions and especially tigers are incredibly agile. A tiger or a lion in the same circumstances would jump on the bison and bring all its weight down on the animals spine, making it drop to the ground. It looked like this happened right at a trail head which is a horrible spot for this to take place. A grizzly will become extremely territorial after a kill and will attack anyone in the area. Hopefully whoever took this alerted the park rangers who would probably need close the area or maybe even haul off the carcass to a more remote area.

@@theoriginalloser8808 Honestly, I'd say even a primatologist will tell us a gorilla has zero chance against a grizzly. I'm surprised to see people even think a gorilla would have a chance against a bear. A gorilla has no chance in hell. There's literally more reasons than there is time to list why a bear will destroy a gorilla. The gorilla has very little in the way of defense. It doesn't have extremely thick skin so the bear's claws and bite will easily rip into the flesh. Gorilla's bones are thick but not thick enough to withstand the onslaught of the bear... But they are strong in comparison to humans but not strong compared to grizzly bears.. the grizzly is almost twice the weight of a gorilla, runs faster, three or four times stronger pound for pound, and of course has those formidable razor sharp claws that are lacking in the ape and will surely rip the gorilla until it's shredded. The only thing the gorilla has as a slight advantage would be bite force and realistically there's very little difference around 1300psi to 1200psi for a bear on average.. and of course, this is variable, so there's a good chance the bear's bite force could be much stronger than the gorilla. A gorilla can't really do much to a bear except bite and hold on.. bears are used to this and would laugh (if they could laugh) at the gorillas feeble attempts, it's how bears fight one another, soon as the gorilla bites on the bear the bear can just slowly but surely tear it to shreds with it's claws. Bears are the king predator, also bears are awesome and big monkey gorilla is asshole.

@@theotherside931 That animal was alone, now go back and read what I said: Wolves and grizzly bears can kill adult bison, but predation has little effect on the bison population. Bison usually face their attackers and defend themselves as a group, making them more difficult to kill than animals like elk that run away. The size of bison also plays a role in persuading predators to look for an easier meal.

I'm from a small town my adopted dad owned a strip mine lake. I saw some nature stuff I once witnessed a crow crying to catch this big bass. And the bass was trying to get the crow. I said the bass would get the crow. My adopted dad said the crow will get the bass. Well bass had himself KFC that dad.

One time he had 30 geese in the yard with babies. My adopted mom told us to go out and scare them off. We said hell no we stay in we arnt that stupid. She said we were sissies we replied yep we are sissies and proud of it. Better to be a sissies then a dern fool. She took a broom and said I handle this I'm not afraid watch this. My adopted dad said yea we will watch. She went outside she swung that brook screaming. That was all it took all 30 jumped her we sat and watched and laughed. She came in screaming saying why didn't you help me they attacked me. He told her we are sissies remember.

I’m sure you edited out the moans and cries of the bison. Nature can be violently cruel, inhumane and horrifying! Yet many individuals still condemn hunters who harvest game with one quick lethal rifle shot.
@richgerow3472
@richgerow3472 3 жыл бұрын
That's because hunting is unneccesary. This bear has to kill to eat, and thus has to kill to survive. It's not killing the bison just for the fun it like hunters do. Humans have domesticated animals like cattle and pigs that provide us with an easy source of meat that we can pick up just by walking down to the supermarket. We don't need to hunt to survive anymore. Hunting now is taking pleasure in killing something. That's way it's condemed.

Come on. 'Millions' or even 'a majority' of hunters do not hunt for food. Yes, they may eat what they kill, but let's be real, that is in no way the same as hunting to eat for survival. The percentage of hunters who meet that criteria are few to naught. Hunting while living in a developed culture that farms livestock is, plain and simple, killing for entertainment. It may indeed be more humane to kill with one shot than death by farming, but the inhumane tragedy comes from the senseless taking of a FREE life while so many others are bred, farmed and butchered for your sustenance already.

Frankly I don’t get what’s all the fuss with preserving the bear and wolf populations (mainly bears)… I’m in Romania, the place with the largest brown bear population in Europe, you can’t hunt them here. Why do we care so much about predators that can be obvious dangers to us if encountered? Sure, ecosystem, food chain and all that, but they’re not doing many great things it would seem…

Since the bison is young, and not with a herd, its probably a young male that just reached breeding age. In the summer, males separate and go off on their own or in little bacherlor groups. The young have a high rate of mortality because they are still learning things - like how to fend off bears.
