I really enjoyed Bear Canyon Trail camp when we went last year. However when we went there must have been a good 20+ in the camp. We stayed int he back of the camp then. I think next time I go there I would like to stay further up near the old rock cabin. It was part of the Twin Spruce Club Headquarters. Looked like you guys had a great time and some good food too!

Yeah, there was a large Boy Scout group ahead of me and David, luckily some of us got there early and got the best spot. When I go back I’ll do a thru-hike but probably coming out of Highway 2.

We have been down to the picnic area and a little past that I think, man. It's been so long, probably 19 years, lol. I have always wanted to hike to the falls and to bear canyon camp maybe one day I will . Great video thank you much

From that old Switzer camp, the waterfall is not that far. The Bear Canyon trail camp is gorgeous, great for wild camping.

Thanks, Andrew! Crossing waters a great relief during hot summer hike. And this area of San Gabriel holds lots of great history during the great hiking era of the 20th century.

First overnight that my wife and I did was here in early April 2002. We had the camp all to ourselves. Love to see that the camp tables are still there. I was a little freaked out about the bear warnings, but we hung our food in a tree on the other side of the camp and settled in for the night. I felt something poking me from my jeans pocket and pulled out a stick of cherry chapstick and put some on my lips, and my wife wanted some too. Just then I realized, "we are frosting ourselves for the bears!" Don't think I really slept a wink that night. Beautiful hike and camp, but that slope to get back up to the trail above the falls was a killer!

Ha ha ha! What a great experience, something you will never forget. I was telling my friends, this is the Bear Canyon without Bear. Yeah, it was a tough hike out, especially with heavy pack.

Nice video Robert! Thanks for documenting how that delicious pizza was made by Adam. That really hit the spot when I got back in to camp. Can't wait for the next adventure. Tagay!

Thanks, David! The pan Adam used was there already, somebody left it from long time ago I guess. Perfect for the pizza that night.

Nice! It’s a great introduction for backpacking. We saw a large group of Boy scouts there. Wild enough but not too far.

Hey Robert great video it looks like a fun hike. I had a quick random question what was the mosquito repellent that you use?
@20robertang4 ай бұрын
Thanks! I’m using the All-Terrain Herbal Armor Natural Insect Repellent. This is Deet-free which is gentle to fabric to avoid damage. Also effective, recommended. I buy it from REI.

what a great hike have not ben there in abt 20 years .now me and wifey live in yucca valley and enjoy the joshua tree preserve . love your youtube channel see you on the trail . sonny and shevawn.
@20robertang4 ай бұрын
Thanks, Sonny & Shevawn. The trail seemed to be the same, still in wild setting. Going to Bear Canyon trail camp, I didn’t see any graffiti. So many old trees. Although lots of foot traffic. I have to go back your way sometime soon, hopefully when it’s not so hot.

True! Those were cheese balls Adam baked inside the old stove. It has cheese from the jar.

Has that old truck always been there? I have been out there 5 times and have never seen it. Can anyone confirm lol
@20robertang4 ай бұрын
The truck looks really old, we even saw part of it way up stream closed to the falls. I guess from 100 years ago, they can bring the vehicle to the Switzer Camp. Now all roads were washed out already.
