Sows are protective up to a year... if they are well fed they won't charge unless provoked... getting this close is pressing your luck! The tour guide did a good job. In my opinion. Im sure the guide is a expert in bear behavior. And has years of research and experience under his belt. At the same time I'm sure he knows no matter how much u dedicate your time to these wild bears, no matter what they are wild animals that are unpredictable. He seems level headed. Has a realistic, healthy, understanding with the bears. Seems like the group of people with him feel the same. Let him do his job.

I got to see one swiping at fish in alaska from a significant distance, on top of like 2 weeks earlier, in montana, watching a bald eagle swoop down and grab a trout out of the missouri river while i was fishing haha. If you ever have the ability to travel out to the rockies and beyond, PLEASE do it.

I e read Mother bears in certain areas have learned to actually go towards groups of humans such as photographers because males are less likely to attack the her cubs due to how much they typically try to stay away from us humans. In this case the mama bear is going the ole the enemy of my enemy is my friend route.It’s been noted in black bears as well with mothers going into towns to escape males.

My friend Cindy had both arms chewed off by grizzly bear cubs exactly this size up in Alaska. They dragged her off like a rag doll and chewed her arms off... She got double prosthetic arms... Maybe something for people to think about... I grew up outside Fairbanks, Alaska... It is not always the Mama you need to watch out for....Cindy was and still is a Geologist, just like my Dad... DO NOT GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT A SHOT GUN.... pretty much all the time a warning shot in the air is all you need....The smart thing is to stay away....keep away, unlike this video... you can take video from much farther away... If you are close enough to talk to a Grizzly bear you are too close
