This bear was born in a zoo and sold to a circus. After spending 12 years in captivity he finally found a home in the most beautiful sanctuary. His reaction to his first snow day is the most adorable, heart-bursting thing ever.

@Trish Very very heartbreaking, so many years confined in small space, no compassion, no love, bad food, not clean...horrific. I am so happy that Napa now has Freedom & lives in paradise in Switzerland which he deserves. Humans are the most horrific predators of all---they welded the cage shut. OMG.

Napa passed away in november 2020. It‘s so sad to think, that he spent the majority of his life being very very miserable. But at least he was able to spend the last 2.5 years of his life in such a beautiful and appropriate environment. I‘m sure he passed as a happy and free bear. RIP Napa. 💔

You may think it cruel, but in it's day, it was the *_beginning_* of animal conservation. There wasn't T.V. Documentaries back in the day, there were circus'. A circus was the only place MOST people ever got to experience animals like "Lions, and Tigers, and Bears, Oh My!!" In the 1800's when the circus was most popular, people didn't even KNOW these wonderful animals existed. Many were killed for various reasons MORE cruel than training them for the circus. As more people were exposed to them more people became active in trying to protect them. As you see today, the circus is non-existent *BECAUSE* people started to get involved in helping these animals they at one time didn't even know about. It's *_VERY SAD_* that some animals had to suffer through this, but what they endured helped their species survive.

@mikeh8416

@@timothyhouse1622 By *today's* standard you would be 100% right. However during the 1800's *MOST* people had never seen most of these animals, let alone *heard* of them. During those times people saw, and experienced how wonderful these animals are, and as time went by CONSERVATION GROUPS WERE FORMED. There was *NO* animal conservation groups before this time period.. WHY? Because people didn't KNOW about these animals. Only THEN did people start being concerned with their welfare, and a CIRCUS was great exposure because their treatment in them was *quite often* criticized. I'm not "painting the circus" in a positive light, I'm simply stating that if they'd have never become popular, we wouldn't have the conservation systems we do today. Stop taking everything in a "black and white" point of view. Sometimes bad things happen to MAKE GOOD THINGS happen, because if we never see the bad, we never CREATE the good.

Mile....To paint a rosy picture and make unsupported statements such as that the existence of zoos and circuses enabled or inspured conservation efforts won't make it true....nor would it by painting a rosy picture of the so-called end result of these establishments. His treatment was incredibly cruel and that's it....no justifying. It's much more likely that people became aware of the plight of animals due to increased access to media etc.

How do you know what I feel? Actually at one level I do pity them because they are deeply sick and got like that for particular reasons, not because they are evil. Unless the human race can break the cycle of abuse it will continue, those who were abused abuse others. Simply sesponding with Old Testament revengeful justice will not break the cycle and so it will continue Vengeful justice is about satisfying a need in those who carry it out. It is not about trying to rid humanity of its ills.

@@RainOCE14 Typically when a human being experiences empathy for another creature's emotion or situation, their brain releases the same chemicals the other creature's emotion would create had they felt it themselves, and results in a similar emotional chemical effect. Typically the emotion of sadness, fear, pain or even anger results in constricted breathing and sinus sensitivity that can turn into crying. So for a human being with empathy, seeing an animal sad or in pain can naturally result in feeling sadness or pain and crying about it. It should at the very least, evoke feelings of one's heart sinking, nausea, or a "lump in the throat", or some kind of felt reaction. If not, you probably aren't familiar with empathy at all, and tbh that's dangerous psychologically speaking and you should probably seek therapy for your dissasociation.

Certain high quality zoo's also that do work with protecting the animals and such. Places like seaworld, hell no. They put massive whales in small cages. Thats horrible. I was at a zoo once in Boston. They had a MASSIVE pool with rocks and a bunch of other stuff made for a couple dozen penguins. they had a fuckton of freedom. I agree, and it's really no room for it left in the world knowing what we know now. That said not all circuses treated their animals this bad. My mom and dad met while working for one (he put up tents she's did tickets) Don't get me wrong it's still not a way to keep a wild animal but they did try to maintain the animals, they where more treated as pets more than employees.. I still remember they took me backstage to meet Sarah the elephant when I was 3 - 4, she was so gentle, sniffing me, using her trunk to suck my cheeks (felt like a vacuum). They rescued orphan animals they found on the round like foxes.. So all that to say that even though it was still bad compared to today's standards these people did try to do right by the animals and not all circus workers where evil animal haters

Rest in Peace Napa! If there's an afterlife, I hope I will meet you there; happy and among your ancestors.

Napa just died a week ago due to a drastic health decline because he got Epilsepsy. So happy that he could enjoy some happy last years after all he's been through!

It’s amazing that Napa ended up in such a beautiful forever home, but so heartbreaking that he was in captivity for many years.

The person that put him in a cage derserves a cage. It is so sad to see how he was treated. That cage was barely big enoough to turn around. Im happy he was rescued

@@lovesanimalshatesrats6339 i dont eat anything that had a heartbeat. I try to put myself in their place and i dont want to be eaten. Even if an animal is going to be eaten, he deserves to be treated respectfully until they murder it. The animal should never know what happened.
