Just to let you know, I made my buying decision based on this video. You answered the questions I had before watching and offered new options. I didn't even bother shopping around for better prices. I know what it's like to take the time to give customers info they wouldn't get elsewhere only to have them give their money to someone else for a small savings. Not cool bad karma. I would like to see a small leather pouch offered as a separate item for customers not buying the Dovo kit.

+UnivegaSuperSport thanx! Service should still matter to some; nobody selling on the big river or wherever's going to take the time to make the video (and buy a $$$ wireless lavalier microphone so it sounds professional!) Dovo does have a leather sheath for these, but it isn't fitted to the 4.5", instead based on 5.5" u can see @ bottom of our Dovo shears page Regards from Jacksonville FL

Hey great vid! I really appreciate your wealth of knowledge on this subject. I have a couple Q'sSo these NTS scissors have one microserrated edge and one rAzor edge right? Are there pros or cons to this as far as beard trimming goes when compared to Dovo? Also, I read on your site that the corrugated edge is essentially tearing the hair.. Could this lead to more split ends? Just curious about the pros and cons to using various scissors. I learned the hard way that some razor edge scissors I used on my beard got dull quite quickly.

+Jonathan Grandt hi Yes, a micro-serrated edge, which does essentially tear a hair follicle as much as slice it, will make more strands prone to split ends than would a razor edge. But a razor edge shear, no matter the maker or steel recipe, can't stand up to coarse beard hairs for very long-that's why all the moustache/beard-specific scissors have to have serration. Micro-serration's specialty here is thus the lesser of two evils; get yourself some beard oil (or what I recommend in our shop is Zartgefuhl's brilliant "Bad Hair Day" haarspitzenserum, only drawback is you'll need to score a little dropper not to waste a bunch of it) and rub a few drops in vigorously every day or three and you'll be fine. Note that Dovo's specific models are also micro-serrated, but lack the hollow ground inner plane that the NTS' have; someone in Solingen-Wald may indeed have another 4.5" micro-serrated AND hollow ground shear, but I am not aware of any others as I write this.

Do we need to "oil" those scissors or to do something in order to keep them fresh and sharp? I just ordered from your site and chose the 6". I use a little bit longer than 6" at the moment but its a very cheap school scissors and I feel like the length was good to me, that’s why I choose the longer one. Hope I won’t regret it or I’ll have to buy smaller one and they are a bit pricey (but look like it worth it)! I’m very stoke hope they arrive quickly :)

StainLESS steel's not named stainNOT steel for a reason, many of the higher end Dovo etc come with a bottle of 'clipper oil' (just a very thin style mineral oil, aka sewing machine oil, etc), the joint/action will certainly benefit from it and possibly the cutting edge (very dependent upon local humidity and your care regimen, but ultimately if you thoroughly dry after each use, this side of the tropics/sailboat, unnecessary). All carriers, USPS UPS FedEx, are suffering long times-in-transit due extreme parcel volume and inability to upstaff labor volume at the sorting centers due social distancing guidelines (this is where the logistics bottlenecks show on tracking info, just like taking an airplane flight between two 'secondary cities' where you do not move in a straight line from A to B nor in a uniform manner of time, parcels move in the 'wrong' direction and await stationary for seemingly-out-of-the-way places but which are critical places to logistics).

I am so glad I found this video! I have been trying so hard to find Dovo hair scissors. I used to own Dovo hair scissors but they are too old (30 years old!) and the blade isn't sharp enough anymore. I am female and want scissors to cut my hair..not mustache which I don't have. However, in Asia, where I live, I have not been able to find any stores that sell Dovo HAIR scissors. They do have these mustache scissors. So I was thinking about purchasing one of these..the black one. The problem is that I want to cut my hair, not mustache. I was wondering if it is possible to cut hair with these tiny scissors? Thank you in advance for any information you can provide! (On edit, I forgot to mention, that Dovo does NOT ship to Asian countries...and including where I live. I was also advised that even if they do decide to ship to Asia, it would probably take months to ship them because of the coronavirus.)

Yes, you can use this scissor 43-454 to cut hair, but it is only 4.5", so good for people with very small hands. This is a micro-serrated cutting edge and that is not good for thin fine hair, for that I would recommend search on our site Dovo 240456 (which has a much more fragile razor-type cutting edge but one that will cut fine hair without tearing its ends). The other scissor to look at would be NTS Solingen Maylily 450 4.5'

@@thesuperiorshave Thanks for the reply! I had no idea that some of these mustache scissors aren't good for fine hair. Never thought of that. I guess that means these scissors are made for particular purposes..and not just for cutting anything. I always thought that if it is able to cut hair, it wouldn't matter but, if as you say, it can tear the ends, I will definitely try to find other scissors including the one you recommeded. Thanks again for your knowledgeable advice!

yes, convex shear = finest cutting action, highest fragility, conventional razor sharp hollow ground and honed blades = fine cut, fragile but not as fragile as convex, corrugated (aka Catch Cut) = coarser cutting action, durable, you can hold and move the hair as you cut.
