I was about that age when my Dad got a 92' RS camaro from my aunt that she was going to junk. He already had enough cars, so I asked him to let me have it. He said, "Help me fix it and it's yours" we rebuilt the engine together and fixed it up enough to keep it stock and run. As soon as I got my license he handed me the keys. 15+yrs later It's been my 1 and only car ever since! My dad and I still work on my car to this day. We've done quite a bit over the years. Used to be auto, switched it to stick, swapped the rear end, put disc brakes in the rear, and slowly been restoring it little by little. Last month I got the engine bay painted and the old man and I dropped in a LS1, a tubular k member and A-arms! Next is subframe connectors and going to get the whole body pained. I will NEVER sell my car, it means too much to me. I'm not home most of the year, but when I am, you best believe my dad and I are working on my car!

I've had 3 third gens and miss them all an 86 305 5 speed with a 4bbl, 91 rs with a swapped in 350tbi, and a 92 rs 305tbi. Honestly the 305 is a great motor and I daily drove mine for years. I would bump the timing a bit for more throttle response and swapped out the rear gears for some 3:73s and that made a massive difference and kept up with modern cars better.

Picked up a 1986 IROC this spring. It runs and drives (kinda) but the paint (clearcoat)is failing and I have had to put it back together since the previous owner had different plans with it. I actually don't mind the look of the car now it is black and gold. Been under it and its not rusted out. Which I was worried about. For the money I have in it I am super happy. Need to find time to get it running and driving good so I can cruise it.

My first car was a 1984 Camaro Z28 H.O. I did a 60 over bore on the engine block, making it a 315 cid, Port polish the heads with manly undercut swirl tip valves, I don't remember the cam specs but I do believe it was supposed to make power somewhere between 1,800/2,000 rpm, I bypassed the computer by taking a 1976 305 distributor, remove the automatic transmission & placed a T-5 manual transmission in it, Edelbrock 1405 carburetor with the Edelbrock RPM intake manifold, shorty headers, dual exhaust (no Y-pipe, I made my own duals). It ran 13.04 in the quarter. Nothing to brag about in today's day & age but back in 1998, that was pretty decent. I will say I did love my 13.5" Barry Grant steering wheel. Made the car feel more responsive in the handling Department.

Yes, yes, yes an Third gen Camaro video again, thanks ! I did go to Hawks and ask the a few questions, because my Third gen Camaro is as you may remember a Convertible and I need Convertible only parts. Nothing serious, just a few plastic rod connectors which basically hold the rods together with which one releases the Soft top anchoring pin from the Deck. And some decals I need as well, ah well I hope they're able to help me out. I actually need some more bits and pieces, but in general all little things.

Hello 3rd Gen Camaros generation, excellent the car looks great, real nice stands. I own an 87 IROCZ, 8 years ego I found it in Wisconsin was place in a barn for over 5 years, bought it an brought it home South Fla. All original right now it has 28K, to me the design on the third Gen it is way ahead of its time, my car for example is 37 years old and when I take it to car shows and place it next to other cars even a lot newer the Camaro it looks so modern, and by the way can not find another 3rd Gen Camaro at shows, in 8 years I only seen two. My Camaro is not going any where, I have some friends interested in buying the IROC but by now they don't ask me any more, they know I am not selling. Thank you for the video.

The reason some of the “grille surrounds” are so expensive, is just the equipment code. The ‘Z-28’ piece has a red bow tie on it, instead of the “Camaro” script. The ‘Red bowtie’ , being the most popular and sought after, carries a big price tag!

I've owned GEN4 LS1 cars, but never a GEN3. The GEN3's are lookers. IMO someone should do to a GEN3 Fcar what they've been doing to Foxbodies for decades. The same way people have been LS swapping Foxbodys, someone should GEN3 Coyote swap a GEN3 Fbody. With the GEN3's strut setup you could probable squeeze a Coyote in there, and while Coyotes are pretty tall and wide compared to LS, they're noticably shorter with they're much smaller bore spacing. A high spinning full bolton 5L in the low to mid 500 WHP range without the need for an aggressive cam setup would be very fun in a Fbody.

I'm about to be 20 in about a month and I plan to get a 3rd gen Camaro to learn how to work on cars. Should I pull the trigger or go get a different car to start learning?
@4everknown
@4everknown 3 ай бұрын
For me, I got a 3rd gen as my first car, and still going strong after 4 years as it's been my daily the whole time. I think they're pretty reliable (at least in my experience) and still relatively simple to work on and to learn on. If you really want a different car and not some generic "grocery getter" and you like it enough, then go for it. Also just be ready to deal with a bit of rust (especially with a t-top option car).
