UPDATE: I was wrong and lazy - actually, GratKit FireFly is already supported in Tuya Local, I've just missed it on the supported device list! Will try it when I get back from vacation as I've also requested extension of developer account on IoT Tuya, to get Fish Feeder working too ;)

I got my Ender 5 Pro about 6 years ago. I had all sorts of issues with stringing and stuff like that. It turned out to be moisture in the filament. Drying it in the oven worked for me, but I have since bought a dedicated dryer and they do work well.

Moisture can be overlooked and there are a lot of potential issue with it - stringing is one of them. As temporary solution, oven works, but yes, having dedicated dryer helps in long run.

I was considering purchasing it, but as you said, the Wi-Fi limitation and the Tuya issues are concerning.

If only - there was a way to get Tuya devices out of box in HA without the need for Tuya App(s) - and if they would also be internally supported, things would be different. Until then, I'm just not that much interested in anything Tuya (that's not Zigbee).

Drying wise I’m loving SUNLU S4 but would prefer it to be smart. You can set a humidity trigger which will switch on drying if it rises but I would prefer to switch the whole unit off at night as it’s loud and then have it come back in that mode as I don’t want the random start at 4am but it to wait for better hour. Of course it needs a button to be pressed so I can’t do that :( Hoping someone hacks it with ESPHome at some point!)

If you can hack it and get ESPHom running, that's would be an awesome upgrade! I've just once again looked at Tuya support for this one, and it looks like it does actually have support in Tuya Local - all sensors and controls are exposed + it had some features that I didn't even know. github.com/make-all/tuya-local/blob/main/custom_components/tuya_local/devices/gratkit_filament_dryer.yaml

Still recommend it? You found another alternative that not need tuya in the middle?
@BeardedTinker2 ай бұрын
As far as smart ones, no, haven't found an alternative. But there are good ones from Polymaker for example or from Sunlue, Creality and others. IMHO, check for ones that go up to 70oC because some filaments require higher temperatures for drying.
