Great video, the Government of Canada has a good API which is integrated into HA without any accounts needed. Domestic weather stations only but very useful for Canadians. Integration is called « Environment Canada » which is also the name of the national agency. Cheers

Did you do a video with HACS services? I really like Blitzortung for lightning detection
@BeardedTinker29 күн бұрын
I've been using Blitzortung for years - it's really good integration. I think I did video on it a long time ago. There was also once upon a time WWLN - WorldWide Lightning Network, but it stopped sharing date, so integration was removed. I've never did video on HACS services, although I've used some in the past (before 2.0 released). Need to fix those as they are not working anymore.

I get lost in get.forecast/get.forecasts change and actual forecast entity creation. Some of my entities use forecasts to feed displayed information or automation. Can we get a tutorial on pulling forecast data (daily and hourly) for met.no, OpenWeatherMap, or Accuweather into new entities? Do not know what kind of output can be generated and if this requires a specific configuration for every weather condition. Precipitation, aggregated precipitation, wind speed, and bearing, temperature, pressure are the most popular ones. Great content as always!

You want to create separate sensors out of data in weather.home (for example) There is good example of simple automation on HA forums: #weather forcast hourly sensor - trigger: - platform: time_pattern minutes: /1 - platform: homeassistant event: start action: - service: weather.get_forecasts data: type: hourly target: entity_id: weather.home response_variable: hourly sensor: - name: Weather Hourly state: "{{ states('weather.home') }}" attributes: temperature: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'temperature') }}" dew_point: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'dew_point') }}" temperature_unit: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'temperature_unit') }}" humidity: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'humidity') }}" cloud_coverage: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'cloud_coverage') }}" pressure: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'pressure') }}" pressure_unit: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'pressure_unit') }}" wind_bearing: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'wind_bearing') }}" wind_speed: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'wind_speed') }}" wind_speed_unit: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'wind_speed_unit') }}" visibility_unit: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'visibility_unit') }}" precipitation_unit: "{{ state_attr('weather.home', 'precipitation_unit') }}" forecast: "{{ hourly['weather.home'].forecast }}" You can check it here: community.home-assistant.io/t/update-from-using-weather-attributes-with-the-new-service-weather-get-forecasts/702736

@@BeardedTinker thanks, it works indeed. It creates a single entity with many attributes. Still need to remind myself how to extract attributes and use them in the automation.

May I ask what weathermap Card are you using on the left side of your dashboard?

How did you forget BOM for Australia?

Hi, thanks for the comprehensive run through. I live in the UK and so have been using the Met Office integration. It’s true, it was broken due to a Python upgrade and was called out as a breaking change in the HA release notes, but the integration was fixed in the .2 patch release and its been working fine ever since. However, I had been thinking about changing away from Met Office as it only gives 3 hour weather forecasts, not hourly. It would seem accuweather or met.no are my best choices? Did you do any comparison of the detail/accuracy of the different forecasts?
@BeardedTinker4 ай бұрын
I use both of them in main setup. Can't tell you how accurate they are as forecasts are usually 100% correct 50% of the time (if you know what I mean). But what stands out in favour of AccuWeather is quantity of data. Not just weather info (temperature, air pressure, humidity, wind & visibility), but also other sensors such as air quality, cloud cover, day/night conditions, hours of sun per day and much more - around 129 entities overall. BTW - for me, while I do have API key for Met Office, I still can't add it - it fails each time.
@geoffreycoan4 ай бұрын
Wow, accuweather does have a crazy number of forecast sensors. Bit of a fiddle to set up but very comprehensive, thanks. No idea what your problem is with Met Office integration, it’s working fine for me. Assume you are on a recent HA version? The issue you referenced on another comment has been closed for Met Office and there is only 2 outstanding issues on GitHub at the moment

I got 3 weather stations in my neighbourhood, but all of them report to Weather Underground service. I see them on WU website, but haven't found the way how to obtain data from the station of my choice (like in AmbientWeatherNetwork or Station). Unfortunately I can't see these stations in AWN and those I can see, even if they are relatively close (like the airport), do not work in homeassistant due to missing time stamps (?). Hopefully there is a way to use the WU specific station data, if anyone has a clue, please advise.
@BeardedTinker3 ай бұрын
I was submitting data to WU for 10+ years. Stopped when they changed policy. One of the changes was also only allowing owners of PWS to pull data from their weather station, not from others. That made me stop providing data to the network.

A useful trick if a free account needed a credit card is to use one of the banking apps which allow you to create one time credit cards. They will get you through the CC check and then die gracefully.

Accuweather is not on our side. NWS = National Weather Service [government funded by taxpayers] "In 2005, after meeting with a representative from AccuWeather, then-Senator Rick Santorum introduced a bill calling for the NWS to cease competition with the private sector, and reserve its forecasts for commercial providers. The bill never made it out of committee. But in 2017, Trump picked Myers [Accuweather person] to lead NOAA."
