Sorry about all the comments, but I just wanted to say I love your idea about the pay it forward "raffle drawing" idea. I've never seen it done, it's original to me anyway, and you're a good guy to think if it. Thanks Smitty.

Almost forgot, with lumber prices as they are I spent a few days dismantling pallets and have decent shelves with no money spent.

Good tutorial on bearings and their problems. One thing about being a Homelite collector, is that they made so many models, you should hava a life- time hobby trying to find all them !

I've had bearings that felt rough and sounded bad like that. A lot of times if you catch them early, brake clean them out and blow out a few times. Lightly lubricate aahs recheck. If there's play, or when looking at the races there's pitting abs galling, it's already over. I'm not saying anything other than what experience I have. But with that all said, for the price of bearings, and I suspect them, and they are out, well then it's really a no brainer. Lol!!!! Take care Smitty.

Nice collectionYou have a few more saws than I do. In my part of the Ozarks everyone does random acts of kindness. someone has vehicle trouble or gets stuck there will someone come by and help. someone gets sick the neighbors will do their farm chores or even harvest their crops. Just this week there was a big steer out along the highway near my place. I thought I would put it in with my cows so he wouldnt get hit by a car. As I was herding him in. Several folks stopped to help. After he was secured I called the sherrifs office and told them. So far the owner hasnt been located. However Im certain they will eventually be found. When they come to fetch him guarnteed they will ask me how much do they owe me? and I will reply not a thing just pass it on and help someone else.

Good idea on the give away! Funny thing thing about the cheap bearing out there in the market, they don’t seem to like being tapped in or they will sound a lot like the bad ones you were displaying. Definitely worth the few extra bucks to but decent bearings in- learned that they hard way.

The only thing I saw wrong with your saws is, you might need more room cause I’ll bet you’re not done collecting! I do things to help out others but I enjoy the feeling I get, I don’t want to get any kudos and in some cases I especially enjoy anonymity. I won’t be entering the contest I would rather see someone that may not be helping others start.
@thecollectoronthecorner7061
@thecollectoronthecorner7061 3 жыл бұрын
I agree I wont enter the contest and I would much perfer that if I help someone that they dont know who done it. Our rural mail carrier has a long contract route. most of it gravel roads. one day I came by and the mailmans pickup was jacked up front tire missing. It was out in the boonies no houses for a couple of miles. In the bed where two spares both flat. Nobody around. I assumed he took off that tire and someone took him to get it fixed. I had my compressor and plugs. so I inflated those flat spares plugged them and put the best one on the truck and let down the jack. and drove off. He is now taking the dirt nap. I bet he wondered who fixed his tires?

I have a question for you Smitty. I know you're the Homelite Guru so I know you'd have an idea. I was given a Super XL Automatic. That thing pulls chain HARD, but it's slow. You can lug that thing right down low and it keeps on chuggin just like a diesel. My Husky 257 (57cc) is a lot faster, but once it starts to drop off too far on the RPM, it grabs and stops, pretty annoying. Anyway, I got to checking swish and my normal solder I use normally wasn't enough. It's between .097" and .100". That's crazy to me. It's got around 140 psi of compression WITH the base gasket. What's your thoughts? Have you seen that much? I have an industrial 3 phase lathe and a Bridgeport mill. Perhaps this winter, another thing I'd like to try is adjusting squish on a clamshell style engine. That would be done in the mill with a custom boring bar I'd have to probably make. Anyway, I love your channel I have learned a lot from you and a couple others. You, Buckin, Tinman, and Ironhorse have inspired me to start tinkering with these saws. I kind of love it and it's quickly becoming a sickness!! Lol There's no cure, but the treatment is of course..... more saws! Lol Later buddy.
@Smittyschainsaws
@Smittyschainsaws 3 жыл бұрын
Some cylinder heads have a larger volume of air space around the plug. The more volume you have then the tighter the squish needs to be. I usually look at the compression more with the vintage saws. My goal is to exceed 175 pounds.

@@Smittyschainsaws I get it, but people do good things because they are decent. Even this, do good things and good things will come back to you is pop culture theology based in modernism. Sorry to rant but it seems everyone wants their charity recognised instead of taking quiet honor in helping someone out. By the way giving away a saw is a nice thing, not having a go at you.
