Did a quick video on how to adjust a carburetor for many of the Echo 2 stroke equipment. This is a must video if you want to keep your tools running well. This applies to most of the current Echo power tools and it will make your tools run so much better.

I just did the same thing to my neighbor's Echo string trimmer Saturday. It had barely any power and needed the carb passages cleaned out anyway from sitting for 2 years with ethanol gas. After the clean out It still needed the main jet adjusted richer. I adjusted the needle out until it was too rich and was not running clean, then back in until it ran strong. Happy neighbor. I've done this to my Echo edger, Stihl Chain saw and leaf blower. thanks for the video.

Chinese aftermarket, Zama type, I have two identical for echo trimmer, neither carb will tune in and run as the original. So I have been trying to figure out why. Opened all for a look at each of the metering system. Found that both aftermarket had a different needle fulcrum arm setting compared to the factory OEM. OEM was set level to the height of the metering gasket, both aftermarket were above the gasket at different setting each. The aftermarket both ran extremely rich even after turning the main jet needle all the way closed. Then attempted to close the low speed idle needle to see if that would reduce the fuel as the two jets are the fuel entry points. I was able to make it idle by turning the set screw for opening the barrel more and closing the needle to some point of equilibrium. Then fine tuned the high speed main jet at wide open to get its best run out. End result was still not optimum. The high end would momentarily switch between a smooth high rpm then drop back to a to rich stumble lower rpm. These switches lasting only around a second each. The second aftermarket I attempted setting the meter arm at a position slightly lower than body level hoping that this would reduce the amount of fuel. Well it did just that but then could not get enough fuel for idle and no matter the idle speed set it would die. So I set it back to level with the body and it functioned as the first one after setting the needles. My conclusion is the fuel passages, needle closure points are just to large, on the main, compared to a high quality factory Zama.

That adjustment screw is for high speed only. There is another similarly plugged adjusting screw (on many models) down inside the center of the plastic plate that rotates when squeezing the trigger and it allows adjustment of the low speed mixture. As this video is 4 years old, I suspect no one will read this.

I do like the video and I am always learning, but, you do not need to remove the carburetor. FIRST, remove all of the fuel including the primer bulb fuel. I heat up a easy out that fits snug into the black plastic insert until its red hot. I then carefully push it into the black plug and let it cool down. Then I pull the easy out straight out and the black plug comes right out. The screw is then right in view for the adjustment. 3 minutes tops if you cool down the easy out with a water squirt bottle. I have done this multiple times with Echo equipment and it works every time.

Thanks for this detailed explanation. My new (year old) Echo 266 trimmer had never run well and I had no idea where this adjustment screw was. So despite your fine CYA advice to leave it the hell alone, I made the adjustment after throwing the little brass jobber-do away. I am writing from the cell which had been reserved for a politician, but my trimmer now runs great! I hear it outside the prison wall, trimming away like a champ.

Wonderful video. Thank you sir. Sad they instal “safe guards” when in fact a poorly turned engine outputs MORE emissions than an “in tune” engine. Okay added power, better fuel consumption, longer life out of your motor. It’s just good sense. But this is the throw away mindset we live in now days. Spend couple hundred bucks, throw it away in 3 years and buy a new one. NAHHH. Or fix it and keep that sucker running as long as possible!!

There's a lot of dumb info here. First, you make sure the engine is warmed up. For adjustment, you run it WITH the air cleaner on it (should be new or clean!) Oh, did you remove & throw away the spark arrestor like you always should? A clogged one slows the exhaust from getting out thus slowing the engine. Did you know there are 2 screws, One for slow revs one for fast? Certainly one does NOT need to remove the carb just to adust it. 2 cycle engines wear out quickly if you adjust them lean as the fuel is a major part of the cooling system. You find the fastest speed, then turn back in a little toward rich! Keep studying & find the answers!
@BearsWorkshop
@BearsWorkshop 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Pat for your input, you sound knowledgable about carburetors. Yes, you should make sure the engine is warmed up and with the air cleaner on it. The spark arrestor is something that I do like to remove but I also make sure they are clean if they are still in. The spark arrestor is there in order to prevent a fire. So I am not going to recommend anyone remove it. I know in some of my other videos I have talked about it. On this carb there is only 1 screw. There are other comments on this video claiming there are other screws but there are no other screws on this model. So on this you are mistaken. The carburetor does not always need to be removed but it is easier in many situations. Some people have stated that they have gotten screwdrivers through the brass plug and have been able to adjust it. Having something that fits is not going to be common for most people to have in their garage. I am showing the easiest way to adjust this for most situations. If I pulled out a tool that reached through the brass plug and adjusted it most viewers would not be able to do it. Don't forget to Subscribe so you can see more dumb info in the future.

Yes this one only has one. Check your fuel filter also. It is possible that the carb is also bad. Check your compression also. These steps are things that you do before replacing the carb. If you go through them, replacing the carb is usually the next step. Just DO NOT buy one of the cheap remanufactured carbs. Buy OEM on this.

I pull the new spark plug and check it and he spark plug looks dry as a bone. I just pull and pull and pull and pull...nothing. What do I change next?? I'm about to throw this away and buy a new one. Hell, with the money I've spent trying to fix this I'd be halfway to buying a new one. I'm so frustrated with it

Check the engine compression. It needs to be 120 but can start as low as 80-90 but not run as good. 60 is usually as low as they get before they don't run anymore.

I didn't remove the brass piece on my echo srm210, however there was a plastic camp on the inside of that piece of grass that I had to remove when I replaced the carburetor diaphragms and I can see the screw in there that's how I tuned mine. Also on my low speed needle valve on the top of the carburetor there was a black plastic cap in there as well that I had to remove and I've been able to retune my carburetor does brass piece on the back on my high speed needle valve really need that brass piece to be gone

That was the high side adjustment. At least as often, it’s the low side that needs adjustment.

Let it warm up a bit before you try to tune the motor. They take awhile to get to working temp.

I had got an off brand zama for my echo srm210 from Amazon and when I removed the dam brass thing in the back to adjust it and that carb adjustment screw kept coming loose from the vibration during operation and I had to readjust it every time I ran it...i finally got pissed off enough I fortunately keep all my old parts to repurpose and I took the diaphragms and the roller bearing and the plastic fuel barrel and stuck all the guts into the zama carb body and it runs just like it used to and I only have to fune tune it back once every two to three months but I weed eater the equivalent of two acres every other weekend in that time lol

@@BearsWorkshop yeah I gotta learn the hard way to learn the smart way lol my actual problem this last time was my idle speed screw had gotten stripped somehow and I couldn't get it out of the throttle cable's housing without destroying it...only extreme luck for me the cheapo ten dollar Amazon carbs housing fit! The one thing I can say about the 13 dollar carb kit is thats the cheapest place to get two air filters, two primer bulbs, and a brand new grommet with a set of fuel lines to go with it! 😝 the diaphragms in the cheapie carb haven't failed yet....so the deal finder in me thinks the carb body is junk but you can call that an improvised rebuild kit with extras for 13 and some change plus shipping, I've paid that amount for a set of diaphragms and new gaskets from the local shop without all the extra goodies...I would buy that carb kit again for that price and just throw the carb body in my aluminum scrap bin 😆 thank you for the video I have to re-watch these every once in a while to make sure I'm not gonna blow my echo up, I don't have access to a tachometer measure thing that's on my list of tools I need

I found this solution a year or 2 ago because my weedwacker kept dying when reved up but didn't want to "alter" my equipment too much... after replacing pretty much everything else short of the carb it's self I finally went and got that plug out (had to drill the damn thing out >.

I have a 12 year old GT225 and just recently have throttle issues, cleaned out exhaust and replaced carburetor but was still having the same issue. Your advice made the difference for a smooth and steady run even at full throttle. Thanks a million! Saved me some serious $$$ and hopefully have thus Echo going for another 12 years. (🤞🏼) Blessings
