I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.

My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

Plastic caps on carb adjustment. Thank EPA, in the early 80's when most cars had carbs, EPA mandated restricting access to the adjustments which was in some cases a hardened steel cap over the idle mixture screw. It was a lot more fun to get it out. Be glad these plugs are plastic.

best explanation of adjustments on this little carb. when removing the barrel throttle there is a small bushing (1.0-1.5mm) that will fall out. It goes on the small pin in the side of the bore and makes the barrel cam up as the throttle opens. If the barrel doesn't rise in the bore as the throttle opens, check for missing bushing. Thanks for the information.

Omg I am working on an echo weed eater identical to the one in the video right now. I cleaned the carb and it did not solve the problem ( bogging when throttling up)so instead of gambling on the kit solving the problem, I just ordered a replacement carb. Wish I would have seen this video before I ordered it. I had no idea that the carb had any adjustments nor did I know about the tiny jet inside the little brass thing on the side. Thanks for a great tutorial!

By far the best instructional vid I have viewed regarding these little carbs... very well detailed and shot, dony. I have been watching your work for years and can't thank-you enough for your work! Just a quick note for American viewers regarding those little black plastic plugs. They are apparently required to be in place if you are a 'pro' adjuster or you can be fined...this does not apply to homeowners, just business people. Thank-you, dony! You are first-rate!

This video saved me a trip to the Echo dealer---I installed an after market new carburetor ($14.00) and still would not run up to full speed. Made the adjustment noted in this video on the high speed jet and it works just like new---the aftermarket carb did not have the plastic plugs to prevent adjustment thank goodness.

Thankyou for this information. I never knew about this tool or plastic cap over the screws. After learning this I got very angry due to two workshops lying to my face.... Back in 2003 I purchased a rather expensive brush cutter that would never run right and needed to be returned often back to the shop I purchased it from. After the third month of ownership and constant breakdowns they started to charge me a service fee. I lost my temper with everything and just put the machine away for years. Years later I went to another workshop to get answers on why this machine was behaving so badly and they said like the original place purchased the device from the carburettor is "self adjusting" and nothing to tune. Ok sure I purchased a brand new carburettor from them and again the same bullshit all over again. So I just gave up with this unit and went 36v electric. I now find out there were adjustments and never needed to buy a carburettor at all. I felt I'm surrounded by thieving bustards and can't trust my local repair shops. Iv been tuning my own carburettors since I was a teenager and this damn thing had me beat. Once again thankyou for the information and help me solving this twenty year mystery

I have a Homelite VersaTool weed Wacker that I bought for 2.50 bucks at a yard sale about 5 years ago. It was manufactured in 2001 with a walbro carb. Never had an issue in 5 years. ..but now I think the diaphragm bought the farm due to age. Thanks for the tips . I know the walbro differs from Zamas carb, but the theory still applies.

Great video Don I've done all sorts of work to saw carbs, drilling air bleeds, adding H needle to 3120xp, using micro drills to drill jets etc. But I've really learned something here today, the only zamma barrel carbs I have are on 2 Makita 231T (23cc top handles). And I just thought they were fixed jet carbs. I can't wait to now be able to do some tuning. Great video.

Thank you so much for your video. . I'll be referring to this video tomorrow to see if I can get it to run. I also did a compression test and it's right about 88 psi..
