the 'red ball' is placed in what is effectively his beast-mode neck, so I reckon that is the back of his beast-mode tongue. (the 'ring' around it could be for properly connecting his mouth with his gullet)

His beast mode is actually based on Kursha, the eagle’s pup, from Georgian mythology (the country, not the state).

For an ideal griffin alt mode you would really want a new lion tail as well. And obviously a more lion-esque color scheme as well, you could probably pass off the rest of the wolf as a lion if you wanted

You know how good this toy is? He STILL holds up and, barring being a bit too short, since he's just Blackarachnia's height, still easily works as a modern representation of the character. In fact, they may not need to retool much, except upscale him to "tall Deluxe/short Voyager", rework the wings to remove the spring gimmick, make the missiles easier to access as swords, and allow them to point forward and fold back. Everything else is already spot on!

I love this figure too, still have him in my collection. I would be really interested to see what today's improved engineering can do for him, so I keep looking for an eventual update. Though a proper one would either be a small voyager or a big deluxe in order to get the wings right. Just the right kind of tooling could get those wings to be foldable and give room in the shelf space, as well as give him the ability to actually point the tips forward to fire off his missiles. One can dream and hope, after all, we finally got more show accurate versions of Rattrap, Rhinox, and Waspinator, and we're getting Optimus Primal as a Masterpiece figure. Someday Silverbolt, someday you'll get the release that has the tooling to make you the figure you deserve to be...

I actually liked Universe Silverbolt. He certainly didn't look like he did in the show, but aside from the "energon scarring" I thought his colors worked well on the toy

This video makes me miss my BW Silverbolt. I gave it to someone else when I was a kid and then as an adult realized he was an ass hole. Last time I saw it he was missing an arm so basically only looked good in beast mode. I never noticed that dog bone in the molding before and totally forgot about the gimmick. Anyway in a previous video you said some time you pull these toys down for review because you're selling them so would that be the case with this one? I kind of want a Silverbolt back in my collection. Would look great with Generations Rattrap and Waspinator... but then I have to track down a Universe Dinobot just to complete the Scott McNeil cast.

Eagle head and wings on a ground animal is a Hypogriph, a Griffin is Lionhead and front with eagle wings and rear

+RandomMantheawsome Traditional griffins have an eagle's head. Hippogryphs have the wings and head of an eagle but the body of a horse. A winged lion is usually closer to a manticore but those also feature at least a scorpion's tail as well.

The animators did not try to make his animation model look like the toy. The reason season 2 and 3 had more accurate accurate animation models is because they were made before the toys. Only season 1 toys were made before the animation models which is why they ended up looking nothing like the cartoon.

Transformers is a TOY franchise. the shows are made to advertise the toys. they make the animation models after the toys. its why Beast Machine's toys are inaccurate, they changed the toys at the last minute and the animators didn't have the time to adjust/remake the animation modals

FaiD Review Yes Transformers is a cartoon produced by a toy company to sell toys but that doesn't mean the toys are always made first. There have been several times when the Animators actually got to design the Transformers and Hasbro had to figure out how to make those designs work as toys. Beast Wars season 2 and 3 the animation models were made before the toys. First season Beast Wars is the only time during that series that the toys got made first. For the rest of the series Hasbro was producing toys they designed after the animation models. You can even tell by when the toys were released vs. when episodes of the series aired. Season 1, the toy line was released before we even knew there would be a cartoon. Season 2 and 3, the toys were released after the cartoon. Beast Machines, the animators made those designs as well. Except for Obsidian who's toy was actually released in the first wave of the toy line before he appeared in the cartoon. For most of the other characters though the toy line came after the series. The toys were inaccurate because the animators created designs that were impossible to make as working toys so the toy designs had to take some liberties to make them work. The live action movies. Every single design was made by an animator. Toy designers had to figure out how to make that shit work in the real world. Transformers Animated animation came first. Transformers Prime, was basically the total opposite of Beast Wars where the animation models came out first for the first two seasons and only season 3 did toys come out before the animation models. In most cases yes the toys come first, but there are exceptions where animation comes first. Oh and lets not forget G1 Arcee who's animation model came out 30 years before her toy.
