That likelihood of him getting hit in the exact place on his chest with the exact timing needed to cause what happened to happen is so incredibly small, but with how often people take hits like this in the NFL, I suppose it was bound to happen sometime. I remember 5 concussions in 1 year. Remember him and Bradshaw getting knocked out cold and the smelling ammonia salts to bring them back. And they would return to the game. I believe Mrs. Staubach wanted her husband out of the NFL too. Metal kleets stepping on people's backs. Head hunting by corners and safeties (Doug Plank-Bears). Legally hitting flakers down the field. It was brutal. Heck players had off season jobs (salesperson, mechanics) to make ends meet. Game was different in 60's and 70's. I find it interesting that the NFL was worried about the first 2 movies - they were made during a time when they also showed murderous hits during games as highlight reels. And in fact, people loved them - still do. The "Concussion" film probably was the biggest one that affected them, but the fact that they took out many of the true parts, is sort of interesting. That being said, many fans today are complaining that QB's should wear dresses because they can't be hit. Maybe not all, but many fans want to see the crushing hits. I gotta' rewatch those movies now. Great video - thank you.

What's awesome about this is...none of it is new. Sure, Concussion made the league change a number of aspects of the violence...and Any Given Sunday, is basically a modernized version of North Dallas 40...the NFL survived that & players still do the same thing today. I remember what Antonio Brown went through at his end. Racism? Homophobia of the likes of Jerry Smith? Oh, yeah that's also part of the multi-billion dollar game. The publicity navigated through Kaepernick kneeling, concussions..

I wish someone would make a movie about rigged pro sports and what happens behind the scenes and who determines the outcomes and how they keep it away from the public. Would be awesome.

The NFL got the will smith movie sanitized by having NFL public relations soften the reality of life in the game.

Thank you for covering this topic. Unfortunately, as a person with Post Concussion Syndrome, I can’t hear the narration above the loud music and sound effects. A good documentary doesn’t need such blaring sound effects to be effective. It’s a documentary not a music video.

At the end of the day, like the NBA, MLB, every other sports league, and WWE, the NFL exists as a company to make money. That is what they are. Despite ruling all of television, they are still just a company.

Years ago 800 ex-player lawsuits against the NFL for horrible headaches and football PTSD were kept as quiet as possible in the media. All-Pro linebacker Junior Seau suicide from migraine headaches,QB Chris Chandler a dozen serious concussions from being knocked unconscious, Super bowl winning QB Jim Mcmahon does not know who he is... the list is huge.

I loved North Dallas Forty. I can relate to the high intensity, high adrenaline feeling of playing sports. I did see the psychotic, sadistic players aimed and targeted to produce injury. Great movie. In order to lessen the impact to the NFL, it was listed as a comedy. The first time I watched it, I said there is comedy but in no way was it a comedy. Too much realism. After some of these movies, I can see how the NFL blacklisted and terminated contracts to players participating in those 3 movies.

The Modern Day!.. Roman Colosseum Battles and Slaughterhouses while paying slaves cheer on the matches, I 🛑 watching Football 🏈 in 2016. ALL of the sports 🏀 ⚽️ ⚾️ Arenas are feed “Let Them Eat 🍰” mentality. I only check the final score of my teams

I think there should be annual testing during the off season to prevent further damage. These players put their lives on the line each and every game. The NFL has the money for testing.

Well I don't know. I'm 54 and my body is starting to break down from the hard work I've done over the years. Construction, parts runner in a factory, bricklaying. And I don't have millions of dollars in compensation. But once society, employers, or whatever doesn't need you or your worn out. Nobody cares😢

There have been a number of series/movies that highlight the dangers of football and the shield. Review playmakers. The shield shut that shit down after 2 seasons due to the closeness I believe in in the NFL. I played the sport for years but if you think once you get to a certain level player safety is a concern, you are very misguided.
