A few assessments you made in this video are inaccurate. 15:18 Montana didn't have a poor year throughout 87 (He was 5th rated passer that year and Niners were #1overall in offense), he had a poor performance against Vikings in the divisional and Walsh pulled him for Young which created the QB controversy. 23:24 Both teams we're simultaneously close to meeting in the super bowl three other times 1970, 1983 1990 prior 2002.

Yes, there is a huge rivalry, but the violence a lot of the times isn't always due to the sports team's rivalry. There is an underlying regional gang culture that has existed for decades in the Bay Area. You'd see Raiders fans fighting other Raiders fans and 49ers fans fighting other 49ers fans. It just gets hyphy and sometimes it's funk on sight. The City vs The Town, Nortenos vs Surenos, and regional neighborhood tensions throughout the Bay Area...all meeting up at one game. Alcohol, football, machismo...recipe for a little chaos. Good times in Hunters Point at the Stick and at the Coliseum in Oakland. I remember hearing that specific shooting was between 2 sets of Raiders fans. Crazy

Just all honesty I promise you one thing the crazy way of tilt incident after any games anywhere but especially LA n Oakland Throw Philly in there as well or even Dallas you can bet 100% that it’s a certain type of person doing those things Not even real sports fans, nor are they ever of a certain Tone You know what tone I’m speaking of And they’re usually in the mid tone even more than full tone Sucks to have to talk in a way that may not be perfectly clear to some people, but that’s the world we live in today 100% we all know who are the ones ignorant enough to do these things over a game to go that far I mean, face painting already over the top Taking a game personally is way over the top Then you get these to go to games and they think that it’s actually worth pulling out a piece It’s disgustingly hilarious But call it what you want. Call me what you want for speaking the truth. We all know what it is every time this stuff happens. The lighter tones involved they were the ones getting attacked over a game for wearing a jersey while they’re with their kids and they get attacked over a jersey. It’s ridiculous. It’s literally the circus thanks to those certain types of people.

I think another large factor for shootings that occurred was gang associations with team affiliations. The two largest California gangs represent themselves with blue and red colors, they also use professional sportswear to do this as well. In northern California, gangs would often wear 49ers or Raiders to display what gang they were repping. For this reason at the high school, I attended no sportswear was allowed or wearing of blue or red. I wouldn't be surprised if the shootings were gang-related in some way as it's rooted in that culture.

As a Niners fan, I remember that era quite well. It was the MySpace days. I have no idea how, but I linked up with some Latino Niners fans who would go "take over" Networks Associates Stadium / the Coliseum. Go a 100 deep to the tailgates, waving flags, talking mad s××t, and recording everything so it could be put online that night. The thing is, though, remember how I talked about the "era"? It was not only football, with Raiders & Niners fans hurting each other (although, side note: Jeff Garcia said he refused to let his family come to Raiders - Niners games, for their safety). It was also a horrible time for baseball violence among the S.F. Giants & L.A. Dodgers fans. The most infamous story is that of Bryan Stow, who was severely beaten, to the point of having irreversable brain damage, never to be the same. The Giants still have him throw out the 1st pitch every season or so. There was also a story of a family friend who was murdered for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was leaving a game and had drank some beers during the game. He brushed up against the car of some Dodgers fans & 3 of them hopped out & killed him. During their defense, they claimed they were intimidated and _HAD_ to jump out of the car and kill him, (with weapons) 3v1. Neither the judge, nor jury, were amused.

That was the plan but Stan Kroenke opted for the Chargers to be the 2nd tenant because he knew the Raiders we're gonna be the "primary" team in his own stadium, for his Rams. It was a calculated move to bring the Chargers cos they were in the same situation as the Raiders, so Vegas made the call and brought a high risk team to a high roller city. Raiders still sellout in LA as they have no choice but to face the Chargers twice every year and the Rams once every four. Nothing worse for Kroenke than to have to deal with the Raiders twice for both Rams & Chargers this season

I was at The Stick and The Oakland Coliseum as a season ticket holder with the 49ers up until they moved south and the problem was with the gangs 99.9% of the time and alcohol 💯% of the time. I always looked forward to the Battle Of The Bay because it was a pride thing but my wife and I would always leave a bit after the 3rd quarter just because of how sketchy it was. I've seen a lot of fights and a guy get stabbed in front of us in the parking lot.

Moss was totally useless to the Raiders. I watched him intentionally flub receptions, it was obvious he didn't want to be there. As to the battle of the bay. There's a photo of Jim Otto running off the field victorious. He'd pushed back his retirement when he found that SF was on the schedule. That photo was taken when Ray Guy put away the game beating SF. Otto HATES SF more than any fan could be capable of doing.

Sports fans can really be nuts sometimes… When one of my best friends moved back to The States in mid/late-2000’s, he found his way back to New Orleans, and we were Skyping one night. All of a sudden, he goes, “Uh oh. I think that was gun shots. Hmm. Hold on a second, I’m gonna go check.” Lol I was like, “Bro, please stay in your house if you think there’s shots poppin’ off.” And being the guy he is, he replied, “Well, if I was shot and dying on the street, I would want someone to find me and call an ambulance.” So he left me hanging for 10-15 minutes. Maybe a bit longer. And when he came back online, he said, “Yeah some dude in an Eagles jersey got shot outside a bar cuz he was gloating about how they beat the Saints that night.” It’s possible there’s more to the story. But New Orleans is nuts, and everyone is strapped. So it’s not so far fetched to imagine two drunk idiots getting into a fight, and one dude pulling his gun. Edit: I should mention he grew up in the hood and was used to being around guns and gang activity. So that’s why he had no concern regarding his own safety, and was comfortable to go and investigate. My Canadian ass woulda stayed home. And I woulda stayed away from the windows. Lol

My entire family is from SF and were all die hard Niner fans. Of all these games, that 2000 loss hurt the most. I remember after Tim Brown catching the OT TD, my twin brother just falling to the ground with his face in the carpet. He kept his face buried in that carpet for at least 20 minutes as people from around the neighborhood that were there for the BBQ my family threw for the game having to step over him. We weren't kids, we were well into adulthood at that point. Needless to say that one hurt.

In the 60's I was in High School and the team rivalries were started by our couches...in one home coming game they brought in the local and country police so the other team bus could LEAVE after the game they won... it was insane as we were in the locker room by then when it started. Kids, rocking the bus and totally blocking the only drive to the field! We players came out, some half dressed with many adding to the problem. I spent 9 years in the US Army after High School, was a Sargent, served in Vietnam ... but this was pure insanity. One thing not mentioned in this is that there's a huge gang element to the fan violence. Two rival gangs.flock to both fan bases. The Nortenos typically root for the 49ers and their rivals the Surenos typically root for the Raiders (or even Cowboys). Both games have a presence with gang members. There's some Nortenos who root for the Raiders, so I've seen some "Raider on Raider" violence because both gangs just happened to run into each other.
