Very cool! I learned about that Nd5 sacrifice in an otb game. I was black. Lucky for me, my opponent was only good at memorizing openings. As soon as I took him out of book he missed the winning tactic, fell apart and I won the game. These days I avoid ...e6 in the smith morra and instead play ...d6. But you have to play ...a6 first and its all good. I think in the end white can get the gambited pawn back but its a battle from that point forward.

I meet sometimes this opening, and as sicilian player I've always wondered how to play against it, so I checked how the engine deals with accepting this gambit, and it turns out that, first, it doesn't really have any benefits over any other opening, in fact when you bring knights as black -- you don't have any advantage for white, not only that you may need to undevelop your queen, which slows down your progress, and for black you just don't castle, because your development is slow. Technically you can castle, but only if white isn't playing correctly or blundering pieces.

The correct setup is a6, e6 and Nf6. You keep the diagonal open for the Bishop not playing e6 too early, and in the case of Qe2 by White you can PIN the kight with Bb4 (this Impossible with Queen in d1 due to Qb3 attacking b7 and f7 at the same time). If White plays some waiting move like h3 or a3 you can simply play b5 and enter Chicago Variation with Ra7-Rd7 and good luck for White to create an attack. E6 is faaarrrr from be a good line for Black....

Doesn’t the position at 6:47 on the video fail for White after Black takes the knight at d5? White doesn’t get enough after Qh5+, g6; Nxg6, hxg6; Qxh8, Kf7. Damn, the combinations look so good otherwise.

So i play Smith Morra regularly & am going to stick with it absolutely but if and in my humble opinion it's overlooked by GM's not because it's not solid but due to the fact that it's as deep as any other conventional opening only your minus a pawn so if your opponent can force an end game by tactically trading down, well ye I get why GM's don't play it, there are various declining options for black, the most notable is the 1 played by Anand against marc esserman which forces white into an alapins, but baring in mind Anand is rated 500elo higher than esserman, Marc did well to force him to a draw, but to anyone who decides to embark on the Smith Morra journey please don't think this an option to just crack on and discount painstaking analysis just by dodging the ruy Lopez etc, this ain't the e4 version of the London system,,😂so this particular set up is one of many accepted lines for black called the Paulsen variation, the knight sac being referred to by the fabulous narrator of this video was made famous by Marc esserman against loek van Welly in a slightly different set up for black, again esserman was playing someone of a much higher rating and got the w, with the help of stockfish analysis (obviously not in live gameplay) & referencing that particular game I've also managed to scalp much higher rated opponents but am certain I've never gone for it in this particular line so actually can't wait to give it a go, so thanks alot for the share 🤟🤙

wouldn't it be ruined if e4 c5 d4 cxd4 c3 dxc3 Nxc3 Nc6 Nf3 e6 and then d6? I see that is what (e6 instead of d6) engines suggest as well. Let m eknow what am I missing here.
