Actually, cancelling auto attacks by moving around in XC2 can be exploited. The first attack in your auto attack chain often comes out relatively quickly compared to the ones that follow. By moving just a little bit after the first auto attack connects, you can increase your auto attack rate significantly, which both makes you more engaged (since now you're using inputs for your auto attacks) and since everything in combat builds off of your auto attacks, this speeds up everything in combat.

Yeah, but granted xbc 2 doesn't really tell you at all about auto cancelling and how absolutely necessary it is to play the game. A lot of the problems with 2s gameplay is that it has way too many systems that are either underexplained or just aren't explained at all. That thing about moving that he complains about is literally whybl arts charge a bit faster in 2, but again, not explained at all. Like you're literally rarely supposed to stand still and typically only do the first hit of the auto for most of the game, which is completely unintuitive. it's really easy to just assume you're supposed to stand still and let the auto attack play out until you're charged instead of canceling the animation to make it literally 3 times as fast. Why they designed it that way I'll never know. That's not even getting into how poorly explained combos and specials and elements are in general. The tutorials in that game are the worst. At least they could have said at some point that Auto attacks are useless for everything that's not charging arts.
@0okaze4 жыл бұрын
@@xansiesm6422 This is complete nonsense, auto canceling and all these techniques are not necessary at all to play the game. Everything is explained to allow you to play and finish the game. The strength of X2 is that even a beginner can finish the game without mastering anything. The system is so good and has so much depth that masters can also enjoy the game, using tech that are not explained by discovering them by playing and stressing the game mechanics. Skills used by speed runners are not necessary to play the game, though. Everything is explained to allow you to play the game at the most basic level, like in Xenoblade, the more advanced stuff is at best hinted at, like in many games since Street Fighter. I don’t know what kind of gamer doesn’t know that, and wants everything explained when most people are confused already by the explanations of Xenoblade 2’s basic combat system, and are still confused by Xenoblade’s combat system.

On Xeno 2's auto attacks, it works that way so you take when you move, and when you attack into account when strategizing. The auto attacks increase in strength in a 1 2 3 pattern, so you should move only after the third hit when it's power resets. It also keeps a steady rhythm (123 pause 123), and if you cancel the auto attack with an art in sync with the tempo, you get bonus damage. You have to really think of when you're going to move to be most effective and decide wether you can wait for the art, or sacrifice damage because you need the art right now
@Red_Bl4ze4 жыл бұрын

In xenoblade 2 if u let the auto attack hit the enemy then tap the thumb stick to just barely move you can reset your attack animation and hit again sometimes faster than just standing there - by not attacking when moving you start to lose aggro so the enemy should stop targeting you allowing you to get to the side or behind the enemy more easily

The Zohar is the one thing all the games have in common. It’s hardly referenced in the first Xenoblade but was hinted at quite heavily in 2. That fact is, that’s what the scientist used to create both Xenoblade Chronicles 1&2’s worlds. You find this out at the end of both games. The second game showing that both worlds are actually connected. Mythra/Pyra and Malos all have the Zohar symbol as their cores. Of course it could just be a reference/Easter egg tipping its hat to the previous Xeno games. The Zohar’s ability to grant reality bending wishes is a consistent theme throughout all the Xeno games. Of course, certain conditions have to be met for it to work. Regardless, you really don’t have to play any of the previous titles. None of them are connected other than Xenoblade 1&2. Very loosely connected as well.

I think the reason the battles in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 can take so long is because of the combo system. Players will kill enemies much quicker if they fully understand the combat system, but it's not explained/demonstrated as well as it should be. They kind of just throw a bunch of fleeting text tutorials at you, and expect you to remember it. I don't think you can even go back to look at those tutorials either.

I just want to say, in your review of this game; because you have an accent... the way you say Monado is just so damn correct. It’s a truly cannon pronunciation. Lol! Dude, you rock and I couldn’t agree with you more. I loved Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and played a ton of it (and of course beat it) because I am a huge fan of the XBC universe... didn’t mind it at all but the game was somewhat slow in comparison to the original. I’m not sure if it felt like it had flaws just because of how perfect the original was... Xenoblade Chronicles is a legendary game after all. Its a tough game to compete with, not to mention make direct comparisons. I felt the Torna expansion held up a better torch to the original. The engine was upgraded alongside graphics, and the gameplay was a bit closer to the original with the lack of “blades” being under your control. XBC is such an incredible game that the Wii and 3DS versions are completely enjoyable, even up to today’s standards. The graphics are definitely dated in the non-HD version, but the art style is so unique and world design is near flawless that it made up for the dated graphics. Don’t even get me started on the storyline... has more twists and turns than many movies or television series out there. There’s a story arch around every corner to keep you consistently hooked. Now that it’s in HD, I think this game is literally top tier *perfect* in general. I haven’t made the leap to buy it yet, but I will soon and when that happens, I shall prepare myself to have absolutely NO LIFE. Lol. I sunk 120hrs into the original and am prepared to do the same if not more with the HD version soon. Thanks for the great review! Don’t worry about the last one... although you were pretty harsh on XBC2, I believe you were on point with your critiques. A little harsh, but it was your opinion - and it’s not to say that you weren’t right. You were very critical, but your opinions were definitely not baseless. I understood where you were coming from. I felt the same way but because I’m a super fan, I could look past the flaws and enjoy the game. Now that XBCHD is out... Holy moly. If anyone hasn’t ever played the game out there, it’s a MUST BUY. This will be one of the greatest JRPGs you will ever play. For real. 👍🏼

@byronlyons35484 жыл бұрын
@@Ellierienna Not always, but for games like Xenoblade 2, it really is a factor in knowing how to play the game that will determine whether you will really like it or not. For example, the auto attack in both this game and Xenoblade 2. Xenoblade 2, it cancels whenever you're on the move right? Well, when your character hits the first auto attack, move the left stick just a little, to cause you to cancel the animation, and let go of the stick as soon as you can. When they stop moving, they go back to auto attacking as soon possible, leading into the first swing again much much quicker. In Xenoblade 1's terms, it's like double auto attack, but guaranteed. This is available to you from the start of the game. As for 1, well, there's no way to do any of that, and the only thing you have left, is leaving it all up to the gems that you equip late into the game (double attack and haste). With no way to stop auto attacks when close either, means you will draw all sorts of aggro, ruining any positioning strategy you might have at the worst timing. Another difference in gameplay, is the variety and mechanics it introduces to you later on, in each game. For 1, well, fortunately, but also unfortunately, it gives you all the fundamentals, mechanics, and what you could call as combos early into the game, with not much new or variety on how to play beyond halfway. Everything kind of falls onto the niche and strengths of the characters themselves. In 2 however, you get more new game mechanics to go by later in the game, probably after fully understanding the ones it introduces you thus far, and opens up opportunities for things like combos. Including some stuff like from 1, such as Break and Topple, but with two new arts into the mix of doing big damage. There's the fusion combos with blades, that adds into more of the bonus effects, like burn damage and what not. Then along with chain attacks, is the fusion combos adding more into it, along with a very powerful final attack phase at the end, called Full Burst, after destroying 4 elemental orbs. All of this before talking about the potential possibility and fighting style with the characters, which aren't limited to a singular weapon type at all like the characters in the first Xenoblade were.

@@Ellierienna tl;dr: If you like a game that doesn't go stale, and keeps things new and fresh by adding it along the way, for things such as gameplay. Then Xenoblade 2 really does this a whole lot better than Xenoblade 1, and is definitely worth it once you end up learning how to actually play it. There's still much more to Xenoblade 2's combat that I didn't say, but again, it's very rewarding when you master it, and better than instant gratification.

@@byronlyons3548 You essentially said everything I was going to say. People like Wood really don't realize just how complex the combat system in XC2 is. It's a combat system that is difficult to master but really rewarding. One of these days, Wood is gonna have to either pay attention to the game or watch a guide to fully understand it because it is nowhere near as bad as he makes it out to be.

Was having a dilemma between borderlands and this game. Thanks for giving ur thoughts dude! Looks like il pick this one instead!!

What do you think of your choice so far? I’m having the exact same dilemma, I’ve bought various iterations, sequels and collections of borderlands on 360 and Xbox one over the years and not sure whether to go for it again or try this instead having never touched the franchise before.

I mean you heard him say Rhys so apparently they did a Borderlands partnership or something so you'll also be getting just a little bit of BL with this game. This is sarcasm and is intended as a joke

I played XB2 first and took a month break halfway through, returned and beat the game. Then played XB1 every day even for 10 hours straight sometimes and beat the game without any long breaks

Man, Wood’s out here using Sharla unironically, a true hero of our generation👌 Ps. I know Sharla can be useful if you optimize her properly, just saying.
@Felixr24 жыл бұрын
Even then, as soon as you get Riki, any team with Sharla is sub-optimal. Still, being sub-optimal doesn't say much in a game where every character is at least good enough

She’s useful with the most basic arts. No optimization needed in the DE

I'm a new comer and now huge fan of the game after 60 hours! My biggest complaint I haven't seen mentioned is how much walking there is in the game. It could really have benefited from a run button or maybe even a vehicle of some sort
@link07144 жыл бұрын
There are a few gems you can apply to your characters to make them run faster but overall I do agree. I love the game's environments though so it didn't really bother me that much haha.

The auto run button eased my pain with this
@Zorgot.2 жыл бұрын
My opinion on autoattacking while moving differs, I found it extremely annoying when I’m trying to move, but my character keeps swinging at the enemy and keeps getting blocked so he barely moves. It gets frustrating for me when I’m trying to move to revive someone and I’m like “FOR FUCKS SAKES JUST MOVE STOP SWINGING AT HIM”

Im replaying xc2 for the third time right now & i understand frustrations with the battle mechanics; however i can take out enemies in like a minute max 7 hours in. I think the game does a bad job of drumming the importance of timing cancel attacks, because by using an art on queue not only does more damage but speeds up the use of special moves. When used properly the mechanics are sublime; when used half heartedly the game is long winded & boring.

Funnily enough, I was in the same situation when I first faced Zanza - except shulk was always a level higher than the others in my experience. So he could hit them but the others couldn't. Luckily, I was just close enough to leveling everyone else up that defeating his gaurds multiple times over leveled them up once and they could all actually hit and topple him
