Beating Minecraft's Hardest Modpack With Nothing // Episode 19 - Reaching The (Game)Breaking Point

Neurotic Goose

Күн бұрын

In this nineteenth episode of the series I dabble in normalcy, clean my room, create the worlds most dangerous dunk tank, begin stockpiling fissile nuclear material because a monkey said so, and begin investing in my personal edification by inserting 79,313,185 kilograms of iron into a pot of boiling water.
GT - New Horizons is an intricately designed and custom-coded kitchen-sink style modpack built on the 1.7.10 version of Minecraft. It integrates hundreds of Minecraft's flagship mods into a Gregtech framework - completely overhauling the mods' traditional progression in the process, and radically rebalances any of the technologies those mods may offer.
Because doing things the normal way is 'too easy', I am following a ruleset based off of the (in)famous Garden Of Grind ruleset that places me in a completely empty superflat dimension. Every single resource I need, including blocks to stand on, has to be created out of nothing by finding clever workarounds and weird mechanics. Unlike in Garden Of Grind, I am not restricted to only my starting dimension - it's just that every other dimension starts out just as empty as my first one.
This pack is available on both the Curseforge and Technic launchers. You can also get the pack directly from the development GitHub.

It’s funny that at the start of the episode we had “it’s basically just normal gregtech now” and by the halfway point you’re talking about generating several thousand pools of mana by exploiting weird mod interactions to get an enchantment that’s two orders of magnitude more powerful than an ordinary enchantment by exploiting different weird mod interactions.

Fun fact, Nine Hells is actually one of the more damaging Foci after enhancing it, since the Bat Bombs upgrade - which does exactly what it says on the tin - spikes their damage output to around 20 full hearts per fire bat. It's just that in a pack where an infinitely repairable ranged weapon doing ten times that amount of damage one tier earlier requires relatively zero infrastructure, material cost or magic investment worth mentioning. Needless to say it leaves the poor focus to only having very limited practical uses. So, there's one quirk with repeated overchanting involving diamond spikes. You can enchant diamond spikes (though only on anvils specifically), and you can Overchant diamond spikes. You can also, in stark contrast to items (Draconic Evolution's keybind notwithstanding), place diamond spikes in the world. And then break them to pick them back up. The latter doesn't save the NBT tag that says "hey, this enchant on this item has already been Overchanted, so don't Overchant it again". Instead the only limitation on excessive Overchants on enchantments that can fit on a diamond spike is time and/or earplugs (you can WA Overchanters if you mind the deafening explosion of noise that creates), experience, Praecantatio Essentia, a sample of the enchant to begin the journey with and of course the other tools needed for Overchanting shenaniganry.
@athath2010
@athath2010 3 ай бұрын
Can this be used to strap Looting 180 to a spike without destroying Goose's hands, or is the Overenchanter the machine that needs obscene amounts of mana (and thus void putty)?
@TheShadowofX
@TheShadowofX 3 ай бұрын
@@athath2010 I wouldn't say it lets you get a Looting CLXXX enchant without breaking your hands considering the amount of clicks involved, but it does let you stack (diamond spike compatible) enchantments without needing Mana at every single step. You'd still need Mana for the final step if you want that enchant on anything but that singular diamond spike, but only that final step.
@sea_kerman
@sea_kerman 3 ай бұрын
@@athath2010I think it can. The thing that needs the mana is the mana enchanter, but I don’t remember where in the uberenchanting process it is used.
@BobSmith-cg2ek
@BobSmith-cg2ek 3 ай бұрын
@@sea_kerman Uberenchanting is effectively the process of using the mana enchanter to "launder" overenchanted tools, to make the overenchanter think that the particular item hasn't been overenchanted. The break-replace loop of the spike skips performs the same laundering function, so at first blush this seems correct.

I think the thing that scares me the most about this series is the amount of it that I actually do understand. My "stupidist ever modded farm" is probably one that farmed platinum by exploiting a mod interaction. One mod made it so shears were craftable with any ingots, minechem lets you break down items into their chemical components. Every time the server restarted it would pick one of the shear recipes, seemingly at random, to be the way it decided which metal to give when decomposing shears. I rigged a system to slowly decompse shears constantly until they happened to return platinum or tungsten, then spin up mass decomposition until it returned something else on next restart. So it makes shears than smashes them until the bits are the right shiny. Then goes ham on them for about 4 hours until scheduled server restart, and then goes back to a trickle of shear smashing.

Hey Goose, you may want to install Stackie to help mitigate your XP lag problem. Much like its contemporary, Clumps, it fuses XP orbs to minimize the number of entities involved. It won't permanently solve the problem, as there is a cap on the size of XP orbs, but it'll certainly help prolong the inevitable. Alternatively, you can make an ME disk dedicated to experience, have it auto-export into your xp crafting system, and void any overflow. It's not like you're hurting for XP, but I understand the inner gtnh-hoarding-goblin wanting to keep at least _most_ of it lolol
