I think the first video in that series has over a million views so your not wrong that the idea is (or was) popular. The really early games are the funniest to do because the guidebook writers literally would just lie about shit.

With Gen 1 it's kinda hard to tell if the guide writers were lying of if the game programmers just fucked something up. I'm still very salty about Haunter not being remotely helpful against Sabrina when Ash Ketchum himself specifically told me it would!

I have that exact guidebook. The checklist was great. I'm going to be a bit critical with this comment, but it's all in good fun. Some things to note: The listed trainers are trainers that you can Match Call later, not mandatory battles. I think Jacob handled it well. The very first section about berries does mention replanting, so I would have replanted every berry. Chat at one point asked Jacob if the guide mentions switch training. His response was "C'mon guys." as if it doesn't but should be allowed. The guidebook actually mentions switch training as the first thing on the Catching Pokemon page. Rustboro City "tip 3" is trade a Ralts for a Seedot. I would take this as, go back and catch a Ralts and do the trade and then never use Seedot as it's not part of the team. Roxanne's description recommends "Grass and Water" moves and to bring a Makuhita to the fight. Jacob mentions this, but the reason why you cannot get one at this point, is that you can only go to Granite Cave after saving Peeko which is only after the gym battle. 1:45:45 These 3 trainers are marked on the map as "tip 1" "Double Trouble". Saying that double battles are "virtually unavoidable." Should have been done as one double battle and avoiding the 3rd trainer. After Rusturf Tunnel, you do "tip 2" "Tunneler's Rest House" because you can't go in until after tips 3 and 4 which are both related to saving Peeko. Jacob missed this. 2:05:56 "Fisherman Ned" is not marked on the map. Please note, all NPCs do appear on the map. But going by the earlier rule of Match Call trainers only, this is a fail. 2:08:29 The Battle Moves section of the guide specifically mentions the Defense Curl and Rollout combo. However the example image uses a Jigglypuff. Brawley's description recommends using Flying and Psychic moves "such as Confustion, Gust, Peck and Wing Attack". Jacob skips Route 109 (Slateport Beach) including Tuber Ricky, tuber Lola, the Soda Pop shop, and obtaining Soft Sand and a Potion. End of video review. In the guidebook, the braille was very helpful. I would have had no idea about the regis otherwise. And I don't know if 11 year old me would have been able to get the Regis, Groudon, Kyogre, Latios, Bagon, Beldum without it. I actually got Feebas without the guide. I had no idea it had such a limited area. The Battle Frontier section is really helpful too.

That "ineffective" team is easily better than the effective team. Swords dance protect batton pass ninjask and then use whatever to sweep. Xatu is the only weak link. It can be there as a backup strat screen setter if something goes wrong, I guess.

i was wondering why he sounded so different, then i saw the original broadcast date O_o it feels weird for him to sound absolutely different because like, i don't remember his voice changing, because voice changes are always gradual over a long period of time was this never turned into a video, and would it ever be? 53:25 O_o Delibird feels like a legendary but bad. which is funny because months after this stream was recorded, Delibird basically DID become a legendary. They're a SPY the only thing they needed was ghost typing and they're having a good time. space type feels less NEEDED than sound type since stuff like psychic and rock taking space's place makes more sense than "Yeah, the entire element of sound is just normal, sometimes has an element" (it's like if fighting was all normal moves and elemental punches and stuff) but if there's like, tertiary types then throw in space type, i think. having 2 new types at the same time also just sounds nice. plus there ARE the rare pokemon that would want a third type for sound such as Primarina (though, Primarina also has the exclusive Liquid Voice ability so that could just be changed in function to match, even if it's just a hidden ability) charizard x top 10? i get that it's one of the better megas but like, they're also attached to charizard which holds back the likability AND the design. doesn't charizard x have aqua fire

I saw Alpharad at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask them for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but they kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing their hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first they kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
