Beating Terraria Using ONLY Chest Loot

Terraria's progression is one of the most essential parts of the game. Beating different bosses unlocks different areas and items, which makes you stronger. In this run however, all of that can essentially be forgotten. Almost every item I use in this video is obtained from a chest, and because most of the chests in this game are found in early prehardmode, I will be severely underpowered for literally the entire run.

Very good video. I love watching the challenge runs by casual players but there's something distinctly satisfying about a run by a player who very clearly knows the game. It was honestly a delight to hear you say "but asphalt might be too overpowered" because so many other youtubers will struggle and struggle without even building an arena. You placed a Shadow Candle and then got eaten by worms. The Shadow Candle negates all secondary spawning restrictions for most enemies (such as worms not spawning if you're standing in front of a player-placed background wall)

@@isloths Skeleton Merchant is actually not considered a town NPC, so Shadow Candles don't affect his spawn reduction anyway - killing him with dart traps is the only effective method

Honestly, bcuz you can’t use mage armor or the mana flower accessory, I feel like just being able to hold down left click without having to use mana potions would be invaluable, especially when on a time limit.

random thing, but dart trap + 2 spider fangs make venom traps, what makes the farm a bit more effective, when mobs get a bit more damage, they die faster, basically faser farm :).. And a bed also cures the headaches in the farm.

so i'm 3 minutes in and wanted to think through this run myself real quick: So your best weapon being the Hellwing bow for mechs and plantera is really bad, but managable with a bit of skill, and your best arrows are Frostburn arrowns, with Ice torches and wooden arrows from ice chests, meaning you really need to save up arrows, then getting to the shadow key, probably Snowball cannon with getting snow balls through shimmer from the Ice Chests themselves, or getting the Space Gun from meteorite found in the lava layer chests and no Boomstick is not an option since you can not get bullets from any chest. so that for the most part solves the PH and early HM weapon situation, but what about the accessories and armor, well the best armor you can get is Meteorite armor from lava layer gold chests and shadow chests a bit later, and basic PH ore armors can be used to fill the missing parts while looking for them. As for accrssories well if we allow goblin tinkerer and the tinkerer's workshop you can get Dunerider Boots and the Bundle of Horsesho Balloons, but the Bundle is very rare to get, since Pyramids aren't garenteed to even generate, and might not have the correct loot, and you'd need really insane luck with getting 3 Red Shiny Balloons in 1 world, as well as the possibility to get Fledgeling Wings as a 1/40 chance, which are ok enough with a few double jumps to easily handle the Mechs and plantera, then obviusly you get the Cobalt Shiled, Band of Regen and such, so while lacking in a lot of ways with great luck you can get good enough mobility to beat the game relatively easily. and now for the Biome chest weapons after Plantera, well all except the Rainbow Gun are viable, though the Desert Tigre Staff does suffer from you not getting extra minion slots, but it's still decent ai makes it a good minion to use. Next the Frost Hydra Staff is an excelent Sentry with homing and high base damage, so it's a no brainer use. Vampire Knifes are the Vampire Knifes which is probablt the best support weapon in the game right behind the golden shower, and the Scourge of the Corruptor is a fantastic semi-homing source of dps, and the best option for Moonlord himself, but over all i think the Pirahna Gun is gouing to be better for most other Bosses, since you can purliy focus on dodging after the 1st hit, and it deals really good damage if it lands all of the Pirahnas. So would this run be hard? Absolutly, since actually having Good Mobilty is entierly luck dependent, and weapons really struggle in the early HM to Plantera area, but at least you have the decent weapons from the biome chests to work with.

The Starfury is weird in that it is one of the very very few weapons that are easier to use on mobile. With mobile’s touch screen, it is a lot easier to accurately aim the falling star projectiles it creates.

I think pretty much all the post-plantera chest weapons are actually pretty solid. Even the worst ones are respectively a solid option for supplemental damage in general and combo mage setups in specific, and arguably the best pre-moon lord sentry in the game.

I presume you have already thought this, but if moon lord is literally impossible (laser of death says hello) If you were to make an exception, I would say taking the time to go to another world to get your triple jump with bottles would be fine to do, before using asphalt. If I remember correctly, I am pretty sure you can shimmer biome keys into biome chests too, if you did want a crimson chest, and you can probably argue to turn bars into armor since the resource itself comes from chests - not like that will help much anyways.
