Just to clarify: It is not that Pan Am ALLOWED rookie flight attendants to work international service. Pan Am was a solely international airline in the1960s. They had no domestic service at that time.

They changed the world, and in a good way. They stand in the company of Shakespeare and Churchill amongst the most important of British Icons. They will be studied and talked about hundreds of years from now, as a positive force for change and cultural relevance. She truly touched Greatness, as it was beginning. It is a shame the Jet wasn’t saved for its cultural relevance. Clipper Defiance…. I cannot think of a more appropriate name for a vessel transporting the Beatles to America

Deep dive. A Pan American 707 331 is a rarity. Pan Ams code number is 320. The 707 331s were ordered by TWA but not taken up. Pan Am bought the jets though they were different. They were built to TWA standards. Incidentally the next Clipper Defiance crashed in July 1982…. Significant to me as my Eastern Airlines flight landed just before.

@@bernardboka4277 Wow! Thanks for the great post!! I understand that the 331 had a higher top speed?
@bernardboka42779 ай бұрын
@@the_guitar_trooper back then, when fuel cost wasn’t a big issue, jets cruised at 600+mph. About 100 mph faster than today’s jets. The 707 331s were equipped with the most powerful turbojets available at the time… and the flight experience was a joy in its own right… coach then was equivalent to first class now , and first class in that time meant real silverware and China, prime rib and lobster carved table side… and yes the flight attendants were stewardesses, chosen for their intelligence and beauty. The travel experience was often better than the destination

I felt so very sorry for my maternal grandparents. We were Air Force brats and the grands missed us so much they moved up where we were in Ohio and rented an apartment above a theater, bless their hearts. The movie "A Hard Days Night" came to that theater my grands lived above and those Lawrence Welk loving people not only had to sit through the screams in the movie, but idiotic girls watching the movie screaming. They stayed until the months rent was up bunking at our house and went back home to Corpus Christi,Texas. What a deal. I had to share that.

The closest to meeting a famous person while I was flying was seeing Dick Sargent who played the second Darrin on Bewitched at LAX.😂 My dad was in the USAF and got to meet JFK twice. His driver was late picking him up from Air Force One, and he sat down on one of the Jeeps. He just talked with them like he was a regular man off the street. Dad said LBJ wasn't so gracious when he got there, and never acknowledged them. I wouldn't tell dad but I think meeting the Beatles would top that for me.🤫
