Actually got goose bumps on this one. I the story about Her Majesty, but I didnt know that side 2 was originally side one. Wouldnt that have been strange to have I want you which abruptly ends unresolved, followed by Her Majesty which does the same. I once hear the original recording of her Majesty which had a completely resolved ending. Wish I know where that was from but you know, in the old days, who knew where the bootleg recordings came. I'm sure one can find it with an search though. Great vid as always

The other Beatles and George Martin may have begged Ringo to do a drum solo, but the presence of guitars and a tambourine on the original drum track make it sound like they tricked Ringo into doing it. The title, message, the trading off of guitar and drum solos, and the epic way it caps a dazzling medley make The End the perfect ending to the Beatles amazing career. Thanks for the great content with lots of interesting stories and facts.

The first sessions for Abbey Road began on 22 February 1969, only weeks after the Get Back sessions. It’s just amazing for a band to shelve an album like ‘Let it Be’ which still had some classic timeless incredible songs and number 1 hits on it, no matter what people think of it, to then go and create the Abbey Road album just weeks after it. Abbey Road is my favourite album of all time and Georges guitar work on the album is just on another level, it’s so beautiful and tasteful along with Ringo’s drumming. The duelling guitar solo's are just a gift beyond words. Also George could finally be hailed by the masses as a songwriter on par with Lennon and McCartney on this album and that’s some achievement.
@the_guitar_trooper

Thanks for the view AND the post, Terry! Yeah - Those were turbulent times for the band, and the Abbey Road project was generally known in the background to be their last effort. They had to convince George Martin that the album would be made in the way that they made their old albums without the chaos that seemed to prevail since 1968.

That was cool. I knew the story behind Her Majesty, and I Me Mine. I knew a bit about the history behind the three-part guitar solo but I didn't know that was the last work they ever did as a band and that John tossed yoko out while they recorded it. That makes it that much sweeter. I imagine John knew this was it and said to himself, okay, I made my point, let's do this like we used to in the old days. I actually put Her Majesty at the end of I Want You on one of my mixed Beatle CDs, minus the long pause and the opening chord and it works pretty well. The End is so fitting that having Her Majesty stuck on there is almost as bad an idea as following Yesterday with Dizzy Miss Lizzy. That move rose to the level of sound engineering malpractice in my humble opinion, almost as bad as the roller rink organ on Mr. Moonlight, but I digress. Anyway, really enjoyed that. From one Beatlemaniac to another, thanks for posting. 👍

On the original recording, when the piano comes in for "The End" -- it's sharp to the previous section with the guitar battle. Those sections were stuck together and they were obviously previously tuned a little flat. On the 2011 remasters, the intonation was corrected.

@@the_guitar_trooper You bet, Trooper. Love the videos, though I'm a little confused. I always read/heard Ringo didn't fancy drum solos as you stated. I believe you said they lifted his "solo" from another take in which Ringo was playing with the other instruments. I'm curious as to why Ringo would be playing/going for the Ron Bushy solo if he (Ringo) was NOT trying to lay down a solo of his own? Does that make sense? Any thoughts?
@the_guitar_trooper
@the_guitar_trooper Жыл бұрын
@@pauls5096 yep. I think the bottom line is that Ringo isn’t a solo type of drummer. He keeps a good beat with good fills, and that’s pretty much the extent of it. So when they ask him to do a solo, his background track provided a framework for him to use, and he had heard Ron Bushy’s work, and it seemed to fit. And I think that’s all there was to it. IMHO

The final tracklist is like a prophecy: the end, the last song, announced the end of the Beatles, but after some silence there's more music (Her Majesty), that in sensu stricto is an outtake, sang by Paul... And so, after the Beatles broke up, they have continually released new material, a lot of outtakes (including Let It Be could be considered an outtake album), being Paul the main driver of that releases 🤯

Much of Abbey Road is characterized by what Nietzsche called "the melancholy of all things finished." And while it was probably just a coincidence after a film in the UK the theater would play "God Save the Queen" as the patrons exited. It's oddly appropriate that the final, final, track would be called "Her Majesty" (and a few years later the Queen classic A Night at the Opera would have an instrumental of God Save the Queen as the final track).
@OroborusFMA

John might have been coaxed into performing on I Me Mine but he was stuck in The Netherlands due to bad weather. He said he had left the group but he really didn't mean nine tenths of what he said. John, George, and Ringo extended an invitation to Paul to join them for the recording of "Early 1970" in the fall of 1970 but Paul refused, because it was also a ruse by Allen Klein to demonstrate there was still a viable partnership. As Paul was intending to go to court to get free of Klein he couldn't be seen working with the other three.

I hadn’t looked that up, but, if I had to guess, I would say as well that the moving pedestrian was an edit overlay. The likelihood of catching a pedestrian there, in frame, at right-hand edge, is certainly possible, but remote, unless it was a posed pic or a random frame from a rapid exposure. IMHO. And it is only that.
