DAAAARRRRAAAA!!!! WOW!!!! I am just SO honored and surprised and thrilled to have been included in your video comments today!! Not in a million years did I expect that! Thank you so very, very much. I was, of course, all ready to make numerous happy comments anyway, about how much I enjoyed all the info and sites and sounds of My Beatles Liverpool that you have shared here. I learned so much more about them -- and thought I already knew everything anyway, but no, you added so much to my Beatles Mental Catalog. Plus actually SEEING all these locales made all the difference, bringing it so much more to life for me. Oh, and the ice cream stop was a bonus too; I think you chose the same flavo(u)r that caught my eye too! Yum!! Well, I have rambled on long enough here, so thank you again for this extra, extra special video. And I'm glad you enjoyed my Beatles Library from long ago!! 🥰❤👍🎶📚

Fun Fact: the position of the Beatles arms on the "Help" album, doesn't spell out help in semaphore. they changed it because of aesthetics for the photo. Darren is probable still signing on the dole, hence why he doesn't want filming. lol he said "where did you find this one from" BTW. did you get the "Brahms" and "Liszt" reference? it is rhyming slang for what most people get in a pub.

Liverpool is one of the many British cities I've never been to despite living all my life here. Never been to Newcastle or Durham and only visited Manchester and Leeds in the last two years and only spent part of a day in each! I've fancied visiting Liverpool for a while though and this video has confirmed me in that intention. Really want to see the Beatles locations and see the city itself so we'll visit this summer I think. If anyone hasn't seen that Paul McCartney carpool karaoke video it's a must see, one that I regularly rewatch.

weird details: the area north of liverpool is called Sefton, but sefton park, is south of the city centre. The palm house is almost always closed for a wedding since it's a large part of how the park makes money. But on the day's its reserved for public viewing it's pretty nice. Banana flavouring in dairy products is extremely popular in the uk, i cannot explain that one but you might have noticed.
@MagentaOtterTravels Жыл бұрын
I'm a big foodie, and spent most of my 30 year career in the food industry, so I'm always interested by food facts! When you say banana flavoring, do you mean artificial or actual bananas? I only ask because I find artificial banana flavouring really gross. But I do love banana cream pie 😋 Thanks for sharing that interesting fact about Sefton! Cheers! Dara
@ms.antithesis Жыл бұрын
@@MagentaOtterTravels kinda both? im assuming it started out as real banana flavouring, but overtime more products use artificial banana flavouring. Banana icecream is the obvious one you saw in Sefton park, but banana milkshake/milk, is super common here, banoffee which is banana toffee, foam banana's which are little banana flavoured sweets i've never seen outside the uk. generally the flavour just seems disproportionately popular here, aritifical or real.. no idea why, likely has some intresting history.

This is fantastic. I'm realizing that for as ridiculously massive of a Beatles fan as I am (Stephen here 👋), I've never saught out any street-level, personal videos like this. SO, seeing these places from that perspective is making it so much more real, as opposed to "mythical."And wow, John really did live in quite a nicer neighborhood! The murals are beautiful!!! As a professional musician, I've got a short list of venues that give me goosebumps, whether I've been to or played them or not. I've not been to the Cavern, but it's at the top of that list of venues. I literally would prefer to sit in there all by myself, with no one performing, and just imagine. Just some local blokes cutting their teeth in the local pub. And then I'd want to break the silence and play there, too. Sefton Park - 🤣. But seriously, all joking aside, the urinals at the Philharmonic Pub are INCREDIBLE!!! What an unusual predicament though, the limitations on cleaning them due to their listing status. Hello Dara, my beatles history is sparce been too young when they were at their best. Did enjoy George Harrisons later music sometimes l don't think he got the credit he deserved. My older brother enjoyed them but unfortunately he died at 14 year old and his small record collection disappeared. I did find it when my mother died 40 years later, my younger brother had got into them so l gave them to him, they now take pride of place in his vast music collection. On one visit to Liverpool we went to the Albert Dock for a meal and the Boot leg beatles were playing and were very good. Did enjoy your Carvern trip but you didn't mention Cilla Black who was discovered there by the Beatles and Brian Empstien and was for decades an important part of culture in Liverpool.
@MagentaOtterTravels Жыл бұрын
I agree that Cilla Black was an unfortunate omission on my part! Americans are not as familiar with her. And I also agree that George Harrison deserves more credit and recognition. He was definitely an undervalued member of the band. I don't think they talked about him at all on the bus tour I went on! I am very sorry to hear about your older brother. 💔 I'm glad you had some mementos of his life that you could pass along and keep in the family. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers!

@@MagentaOtterTravels it was 1970 the day before we were due back to school he died. Took a long time to "get over" but always there now. Just the good memories are there we were best mates. Unfortunately my younger brothers don't really remember him because they were so little. Back to Cilla she's all over you tube if you like the Liverpudlian accent you will love hers. She hosted Blind date on TV and many other shows but will be remembered for the announcement of her retirement live on air. The producer's didn't know nor anyone else she told her friend Paul O'Grady that she didn't really want to live after 70yrs old and she didn't. Mersey beat will always be a turning point in Britains pop history and the beatles a huge part of that. I do remember my aunt watching the news when John and Yoko were staying in bed to protest, my aunt saying they can't have any children or they wouldn't know what a bed was. She had 4 girls and a adopted son happy times.

That was very cool. Fab even. I love a bit of music history and trivia. Funnily enough I would never have called my self a big Beatles fan but I have all the Albums - love Sgt Peppers and the White Albums. And I love Paul McCartney and Wings and a load of Lennon's stuff. So I might like the Beatles a bit I suspect. 😂 I was listening to Sir Paul's latest album from a couple of years ago and it is really good. If it was really Paul. Everybody knows Paul is dead. He died back in 1966. Google it, it's true. 😂He has been quite prolific for a dead guy. Makes that John Lennon bloke a bit of a slacker. He hasn't had a new album in decades. One of my earliest TV memories was the Beatles. Their famous last rooftop concert. We got a TV in about 1969 and it was one of the first thing I remember seeing. That and a very vague recollection of the moon landing. And Rin Tin Tin. Loved that dog. Actually I just remembered my mum's best friend saw the Beatles when they visited Melbourne in 1964. Apparently it was quite hysterical. I've seen the concert footage and you can barely hear the Beatles. My mum was pregnant with me so I was sort of kind of in the country at the same time as the Beatles. Sort of. 😂 Otherwise the closest I've come to seeing the Beatles is seeing the Beatnix perform at a pub I worked at in the 80's. The Beatnix are the oldest Beatles tribute band in the world and have been going since 1980. Fascinating eh. 😂 Very cool seeing Rachel and Wills in the video. Actually we only saw Rach sitting awkwardly in the back of your uber. I'm assuming Wills was underneath there somewhere. 😂 Those urINals reminded me of the ones we have in a lot of old pubs here too. Old railway stations and public facilities will have them as well. I love a bit of toilet history and trivia. Good on you for having ice cream too. Nobody ever started fight having ice cream. But then I read there was something called the Glasgow Ice Cream Wars. Sigh. 😁🍦🍦🍦 This was a terrific video. Excuse my waffling on... mmm waffle cone... gotta go, pretty sure I have some ice cream in the freezer. PS was listening to Sir Paul while writing this. Ooh, Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry's Jealous Guy from 1981 just came on. Best cover ever. Interestingly Roxy Music's Avalon was the first CD I every heard in 1982. The local record shop got a CD player and bunch of CDs when they first came out. But I don't think I got a CD player till about 1990. The first CDs I bought were Midnight Oil and I think Hotel California by The Eagles. I don't think I bought another vinyl record after that. I think I'll skip the ice cream and go to bed. 😴😂

What I most remember from their performance was Paul coming down and sitting on the front of the stage and singing yesterday. It was beautiful. Have you seen the James Corden Carpool Karaoke video? It's good fun. Actually, I love all the Carpool Karaoke videos! There will be more Rachel and Wills coming up in another Liverpool video. 😉 Wills is surprisingly tall, that was my impression when I finally met them in person! Despite his height, he was still totally obscured by me in front of him during the Uber ride video clip 😂

It's funny how the Penny Lane Road sign was just painted onto one of the sand stone bricks in the wall. People have been writing on it for years. The council would come out and refresh it back to a white road sign and people would just sign it again. Then one day, Macca comes back to Liverpool, with James Cordin on his show (IIRC) and he signs his name on it. Suddenly the council slap a sheet of perspex over it! ps, you can't pinch a whole sandstone brick from a wall, that's why the council decided to make the brick a road sign as the original was always being nicked!

Umm. Let's see. What do I know about the Beatles? 1) They were going to spell it Beetles, as in the insect. 2) Ringo was not even the best drummer in the Beatles. 3) An early member of the group couldn't play guitar, so always stood with his back to the audience. 4) Elvis hated them. 5) The original Cavern Club was demolished to make way for a ventilator shaft for a railway extension that was never built. 5) Brian Epstein was a cheapskate that put them on a low cost airline where one of the engines caught fire. 6) You could say that Linda McCartney invented modern vegetarianism with her food range. 7) (And I think this is exciting). My sister has some of the original Beatles magazines from the early 60s. They must be worth a fortune now. 😁
@Poliss95 Жыл бұрын
Oh, I nearly forgot the most important one. 8) The ONLY surviving recording of The Beatles on Top of the Pops is in a Doctor Who story called The Chase where you can watch them singing Ticket To Ride. All the others were wiped. This is not available in the USA for copyright reasons. That was the case in 2010 anyway. I don't know if they've sorted out the copyright problems now. You wouldn't have seen much of the early Beatles on TV because there were very few pop music programmes on TV. The same with radio. No UK music stations. You would have to tune in to Radio Luxembourg to hear the latest hits, and the station was frequently hard to hear because of atmospheric interference, or to one of the pirate stations, such as Radio Caroline.
