Thanks for the video. The Cavern club closed in March 1973 after British Rail made a compulsory purchase of the warehouses. The basement which housed the Cavern Club (an old bomb shelter) was marked to be a ventilation shaft for the new Merseyrail underground railway . It was never built and the site became a car park. I think you will find that the original Strawberry Fields gates were taken into storage over ten years ago, and replaced with replicas. Nice to see all the sites anyway 👍

I don’t know if you are aware but Liverpool was founded in 1207ad and granted city status in 1880, during ww2 it was headquarters of western approaches and credited with being responsible for winning the battle of the Atlantic which was critical to Britain’s survival. All this before the Beatles, however they were responsible for putting our city on the global map

If yes, would you prefer a day tour including a some historical places or a night tour (like a pub crawl). The tour, it’s always about the Beatles. What would make you choose our app over other options (like a bus tour or a tour with a guide in person)? What would be appealing for you to see in the app? Any ideas on how to make the app more interactive with the Beatles fans?

Two days ago, the doors to the "faux Cavern" were wide open at about 10am, and it was all lit up, so I took a wander down the steps to have a look. Some miserable sod in cargo shorts came up and rudely barked "We're closed!" There was no sign saying it was closed. Crappy customer relations. On the plus side, the taxis doing Beatles tours are brilliant. We had a guy called John. Great bloke. Yesterday, we also had guided tours inside John's and Paul's houses (Mendips and Forthlin Road), which were very good. Mathew Street, though, is a bit too touristy, and Cargo Shorts Man was a ****.
@MattWhitingsEurope2 жыл бұрын
Kinda their own fault for leaving the doors open to a popular tourist attraction, there's no need to be rude in that situation. I bet the house tours were great? When I was stood outside Paul's house taking some photos a tour group left and the lady said that there might be some availability the next day, sadly I was heading up to Blackpool in the evening so I couldn't make it but I would have loved to take a loom around inside. I understand there's a strict 'no video' rule, is that right?
@mikeysaint43682 жыл бұрын
@@MattWhitingsEurope Unfortunately, you're right. To get indoor video you have to watch the Paul McCartney Carpool Karaoke. Hi from Liverpool, I was working in the Casbah a couple of years ago, the place where it all began for the lads, it's been converted to a hotel, but the old Casbah is still up & running, heard some great stories about the lads from Pete Bests brother " Rogue" one was how Paul, John & George got given the basement to do up as place where their teenage mates could meet up & do their own thing ( later to become the Casbah) John got caught scratching his name on the wall with his penknife by Mona ( Petes mam) she gave him a smack across the head, it's still on the wall & so is his scratched name above the small stage where they played, with the words " I'm back also, that was returning from Hamburg, they got told off for painting the ceiling green, so they painted it black with silver stars ( still there) apparently George painted the part above the stage with a different colour because they ran out of black. Its like stepping back in time as you go in.

Thanks for the information, Terry! Fascinating to read your comment, I had not heard of the Casbah before so I'm going to do a bit of reading up on it. Sounds like a very historical place, glad to hear it has been preserved! Thanks again.

No problem Matt, I'm 67 now & retired, but I was brought up listening to the Beatles because my older sister " Jessie " used to go & watch them in the Cavern & she had a vanity case record player on which their records were played, we lived right by the Institute college where John & Paul went to, also the bottom of our street was " Rice street " where the pub " Ye old Crack" is & the lads had a few pints. Talking of pints, another story from Rouge was, his mam had a big dog named Satan & every day they put their scraps of food in a big pan for him to have next day, so one night John, Paul & George ( no Ringo on the scene yet) went out on the ale in that area of West Derby & on returning to Petes House they were very hungry & warmed this pan of what they thought was stew up to eat, next morning Mona entered the room where they were all just waking up, seen all the plates lying around & asked what all the mess was? They said sorry Mona, we were so hungry we ate all that lovely stew you left, when she told them who it was for, their faces dropped & they ran for the toilet. You should visit the Casbah, Rouge does a tour there & you will hear stories that are new to a lot of Beatles fans, he was actually born in that house while the lads sat on the stairs smoking. Happy days eh.

As I travelled around I realised that I could easily make a part two some day as there's so much to see and talk about!

The Penny Lane road sign behind the perspex screen. One thing you didn't seem to realise is that this sign was autographed by Paul McCartney during his Carpool Karaoke TV programme with James Corden and that is why a protective screen has been put across it.

Hello Robert, thanks for bringing this to my attention - I didn't know that. I will have to watch the clip on KZbin!! Thanks for the information. 👍

@@MattWhitingsEurope Hi Matt you probably won't be able to see it just by looking at the video. It's fairly buried amongst the scribblings of others. But if you're actually looking at the sign, you would be able to spot it. Check out the Carpool Karaoke episode on youtube and you'll see Paul actually writing it.

@@MattWhitingsEurope Wow i didn’t knew about the cold weather, thank you! Like that I’ll be ready and I have other question, from the Cavern Club to Strawberry fields, penny lane and all those places, do you went by uber, taxi or public transport??😁
@MattWhitingsEurope3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you’re going to have a great trip! Well the Cavern Club is in the centre of the city, as are the Beatles statues. I was staying in the city centre so both were walkable. The last they bits I drove to since I had my own car but you can get to all using public transport, however it may take you a bit longer. Uber and taxis would do the trick but be considerably more expensive. Hope that helps.

The John Lennon statue in Mathew Street had a different head years ago, it was like his Rock N Roll album cover and it was stood on a set of stairs further down the street too. Theres photos of it online still. Only my friend Lynn and I ever noticed that his body and head don't match anymore 😂

I saw one other person whilst I was at the house and he was the same guy I had bumped into at Lennon's about half an hour earlier. Oh my goodness I have no idea where you heard that John and Paul got together and wrote and came up with the concept Sergeant peppers lonely hearts club band. Paul was flying back with Mal. He shared the idea of coming up with them being different characters. Mel said something and Paul thought it was Pepper and that collect and became Sergeant peppers. Paul had to persuade John and George to get into this idea. And this isn’t just hearsay. You can hear it in the band mates on words on KZbin. So this is so bizarre did they tell you there that that’s what that merry-go-round wants. Also please ignore errors I do not type. Many of you that use the mic understand what I mean. But I have visual issues so it’s real hard to go back over and edit. But generally people can figure it out lol

How was the original Cavern basement get filled in? Concrete ya mean?
@MattWhitingsEurope2 жыл бұрын
It was bought by British Rail in the 1970's and they filled it in (presumably with concrete) so that they could build a ventilation shaft through the area. I don't think the shaft was ever built because water was found nearby and abandoned their plans. Pretty sad really, I don't know what the feasibility is to digging it out again one day. I'd be interested to learn more myself!

Do not take this as criticism you did a good job of things, BUT there is always a but isn't there you left out Richard Starkie's house and the Roundabout at Penny Lane Allerton road junction. Mathew Street today is just a commercial attraction the Cavern isn't the Cavern just name only, the Crack pub was one of their favourites also the Grapes at the bottom of Mathew Street.

How long does it take to do this tour on foot?
@MattWhitingsEurope7 ай бұрын
It’s about a 10 mile walk to do this on foot so about 3.5 hours of walking for the average person. That doesn’t take into account stopping to look around so I’d imagine you’d need a whole day if you’re planning to walk it. Public transport might be an option. Hope that helps.

Hi. Do you happen to know if these places are (power) wheelchair accessible? I’m a huge Beatles fan and going to Matthew Street would be so awesome. 😊
@MattWhitingsEurope2 жыл бұрын
Hello Karyn, the Cavern Club in Mathew Street is wheelchair accessible. The lift from street level to the club in the basement is not available to the general public so a member of staff will assist. Mathew Street itself will be fine as it's flat but the other pubs and clubs will be a bit hit and miss depending on their facilities. Strawberry Fields is wheelchair accessible and Penny Lane is just one flat long street so should be fine. For more info on the Cavern Club take a look at this link --> www.cavernclub.com/disabled-access/ Hope that helps.
