You are right. But we must understand that we are NOT in an objective, fair world. Political, social (and other) forces actually exist - and have strong advocates behind them. This is hardly the first time a superior actor or movie was bypassed, if not suppressed, by "the academy" (take a grain of salt here when calling it that). But Timothee's formidable talents cannot be hidden, and eventually he will receive the major credit he is truly due.

The WORST thing is perhaps that this movie didn't receive a god damn best supporting actor nomination nod from the Oscars... The Academy doesn't recognize true gems until its too late; latest example being 'Parasite'

Right, he is. And it is amazing in a way. Normally, a 'pretty face' is also an airhead (not always) ( but recall Marilyn Monroe ) But to have such a substantial characteristic while also being young and glamorous- wow.

The bitterness that some people of color have towards the opioid crisis that is happening right now is the difference in treatment of the addicts. When crack was introduced in the ghettos in the late 70s and 80s, there was little sympathy for the addicts and a "war on drugs" was declared, which became a war on black and latino users. (criminalization of drug use, mass incarceration, etc) Right now, addicts are treated with more sympathy and looked at as victims of a disease, which is a great contrast from how poc's from the ghetto were looked at and treated back then. HOWEVER, the problem isn't drugs, and the problem isn't race. The problem is the underlying causes of what drives people from all walks of life to use or abuse in the first place. We are all hurt. Some of us stick a needle in our arm, or over-eat, or have loveless sex, or binge watch tv, or compulsively overwork ourselves to run away from the hurt that we hold inside. That is what I learned from reading and re-reading Tweak, one of the books this movie is based on. Focusing on the disparities between races isn't going to solve anything. We all have to collectively admit that we've hurt others, and received hurt, and confront that hurt head on, if we want to live fulfilled, productive, and healthy lives.

Dija Ouija 🙏🏼👏🏻🙏🏼👏🏻🙏🏼👏🏻 as someone who has lost several loved ones to suicide and drug overdose, may I please borrow what you wrote to send in emails to a few family members. I will absolutely give you credit and will not publish anything, I just think it’s brilliant. My boyfriend is going through the death of his best friend from high school who he tried to save for over 10 years before he had to finally step away as he knew there was nothing he could do to help the poor boy get help. It’s been devastating watching him go through the process,(especially as I knew his best friend as well, and actually drove him to school when we were in high school). Concurrently, as someone who has had physical health issues for decades, I don’t see a difference, in your physical body or in your mental body, when it comes to the concept of a diagnosis. I see a difference in treatment, health insurance, stigma & in care. Our country needs a massive healthcare overhaul, including a massive overhaul of how we treat those who are dealing with any form of mental illness.

I absolutely loved both books, I love both Carell and Chalamet and I have no doubts about their performances. I had goosebumps when the audience gave David and Nic a standing ovation, they absolutely deserve it. The only person I have doubts about is the director. Hopefully when I see the movie I'll warm up to him. I also really enjoyed hearing the screenplay writer's story, that was very interesting.
