the dads response is like the last thing to say to your son telling you he's an addict 😭😭
@Anonymous07192
@Anonymous07192 Жыл бұрын
His last words are good tho. He's saying that after some introspection the son can lose his childish addiction and go back to the state he was in before taking drugs. Sort of "jumping back on the horse" so to speak by going to college and finding a good job after.

as a recovering addict, this is pretty typical of parents who don't have experience with this sort of thing, it's actually pretty realistic if frustrating as hell lmao

I think the comments about Loving abused women also apply to drug addicts and vice versa for these following comments. You have to *intelligently* figure out how to Love them without destroying yourself. That means Loving them *with* the flaws *and* for the flawless perfection they can be. The problem is parents have so many hopes and dreams for their kids that when it all comes crashing down they may lose their cool. So this is an exercise in developing self-control, and being driven by Faith, Virtue, and sheer frontal lobe Wisdom. Both you and they would need to understand that their *self-perfection* (rather than “getting clean” or becoming “pure” - which are terms that *can* make them feel bad) is a long-term process. You should be the source of Wisdom that continuously tells them the allure, the danger, and the escape from drug addiction. The escape being that internal happiness *is* achievable if you Love yourself, your parents, everyone, and everything really, through developing Faith in the source of good Principles. You should also be the primary source of *Loving support* they can turn to in times of need. But you have to be solid as a rock and remain unperturbed by whatever it is they do to try and destroy themselves, which is probably *the most* difficult thing as a parent. On the one hand you should not *enable* them by giving them money etc to *destroy themselves* (rather than “buy drugs” - so they know the *True* reason and don’t resent you). On the other hand you should not *judge and condemn* them for whatever they’ve lost and will lose if they continue on this path. Especially in terms of their spiritual wellbeing because that will *only* turn them away from the Righteous Path. Instead, I think you just have to *be there* for them as best as you can, and *give* them the Love they need to be *able* to Love *themselves.* That really is the only thing that can break these strongest bonds of sensual desire that is drug addiction. Along with instilling within them the right view that you should not be subject to these addictive external forces. That you should not attribute blame upon yourself, others, or both, and instead just focus on *freeing yourself.* That you can *find yourself* as mentioned here and forge your own pathway that leads to a state of peace and happiness.

Yeah I have enough problems. I don't want to deal with someone elses. Nor should they with mine.
@lsjt8924

@@ttt69420 What a ridiculous comment. This is first and foremost about parents and children - parents have a duty to deal with their children's issues. Secondly: all relationships - especially the closest ones - ARE about dealing with other people's flaws. You sound like a person incapable of deep bonds if your mentality in intimate relationships is 'I don't want to deal with other people's problems'

The way the father responds is so selfish and reveals how little his character (at that time) knows about addicts/depression. I absolutely get where he’s coming from, but it’s ignorant af to not consider how much shit comes with 3 years of addiction. It’s not about “having a close relationship” or having a good childhood, he is severely wounded by the shame of his addiction only to open up and be lashed out at

Its human to react like that and absolutely relatable. Not a single person in this comment section wouldve reacted differently because the disappointment and frustration are overwhelming and thats why this film is so good.
@palladi7107

It's not selfish. He's worried and scared and shocked. It's certainly not the best reply, but that's okay. Like the other guy that replied to your comment, we are not made to say perfect stuff we are human and we just have to like with mediocre responses our part is to understand and feel the other person

Raging alcoholic here... Shits so rough zero stars but I believe I know I was born an alcoholic just like this scene no one everyone yelling at me like I'm sorry?!? I am what I am. I had 6 years sober in AA hopefully I can get back there one day.

This is based off of the dads book. Ther were two; Tweak, which was written by the son and Beautiful Boy, which was written from the fathers perspective. They chose the fathers perspective to show just how much more emotionally destroying it can be, the son has been 8 years sober now I think

That's also why no one should ever try it. That first time trying meth has a very high chance of leading you down a very dark path. This is coming from someone who used to be hooked on meth
