I’m not sure if this is something you or the people in the lab can control, but as a color blind person I would love if you could have the two colors on the graphs be more contrasting, or further away from each other on the color spectrum. I understand if you would doing a huge round up you might need to use as many colors as possible. But on graphs that are two, or three products compared I would appreciate if you could try to separate them, because I had to ask which one was which 😂. But other than that I loved the video and great job Dan!

That's a very good point, and a very fair request. I'm currently studying data visualization and one of the things I learned is to make your graphs and visualizations work for people with some form of color blindness and many tools already have options to make this kind of adjustment almost automatic. So I hope the LMG reads this.

you dont need to make them different colors, just one is a solid line, the product, and one is a dotted or dashed line, the comparison.

I don't usually weigh in on things like this, but I really think they missed the mark hard here. In terms of no other wireless headphones not being able to hit the same performance mark for the same or close money, the Fiio LC-BT2 neckband which comes in both of the IEM standard connections (MMCX, 2pin) is 100 USD, and can be used with any IEM that uses those standard connections. And the battery lasts for ages. The neckband in the video has what appears to be non-standard connections, which means that the neckband is compatible with that IEM, and maybe others put out by Beyer. Likewise, the competition in the 800-1200 USD price range for IEM's is STEEP. You have incredible options in this segment, most of which I would take over these Beyers based on its frequency curve. In the same price range, you could get a THIEAudio Monarch Mk2, Campfire Andromeda 2020, DUNU Zen Pro, Moondrop Variations, DUNU SA6, Sennheiser IE 600, Ect. I would take any of those over these Beyers, and with the exception of the Sennheisers, they all have standard connections that make them compatible with the thousands of other high grade consumer audio products out there. I would infinitely rather have a Fiio LC-BT2 Neckband and something like a THIEAudio Monarch MK2 for the same price as this. Id rather have the neckband and the Moondrop Variations for half the price of this.

I will argue with you that instead of variations, blessing 2 with an eq to boost bass, if you are willing to pay variations price, may as well just go all in on monarch mk2. this was genuinely hard to watch once they showed the graph and then the price. I would also argue 7hz salnotes zero over their iems based of the graph alone and looking at people who got more than 1 sample and how wildly different they graph.

Finally someone who knows his IEMs! Yeah, I was never impressed by the Xelentos, and the V shaped sig makes it worse. My Monarch mk1 runs circles around it, and I just need either that Fiio adapter or the BTR series and it's just as good. And of course, the Variations are top tier and way, way cheaper as well. These things are hilariously awful in comparison.

Great that you are adding frequency responses to these videos now. If possible could we get a techquickie how to read these? It'd also be really helpful if there was a target curve like the harman IEM curve. Its hard to tell what the lines indicate without a target
@deki9784
@deki9784 Жыл бұрын
I think the reason why they're using the APP2 is because the B&K 5128 isn't Harman compliant, meaning that you can't just put the Harman target on the graph as compared to the older GRAS rigs. As of right now, Harman has not published their 5128-compensated Harman target (Damn you Samsung) so we could only compare to other IEMs

@@1967CougarXR7 I agree, but I think some people are still going to want to adjust the sound profile to their personal tastes. Like even with a hypothetical, perfectly neutral sound, some people are going to want to maybe increase the bass a little, just for media consumption. And then have the option to make them flat and accurate again to use them while video editing, in a pinch, if they don't have their usual cans with them for example. So having the option of an equalizer, preferably one with fine control, is always nice, and kind of expected at this range IMO. But I completely agree, the fact that the sound profile they displayed seemed to suggest these struggle to compare with AirPods Pros, which aren't even _all_ that neutral of headphones, despite being a fraction of the cost, it leaves a lot to be desired. It's like you're just paying for the metal housing and little else.

@@1967CougarXR7 ear canal length and shape (flat or sinuous) is changing the sound of the IEM. It's not worth to consider for average consumer but it could be a bit annoying for enthusiasts. That's why you need equaliser. But this does not mean this IEM is good. Good IEM should have good frequency response but this does not have that and it's very pricey.

I have the shure se215 but I had to go thru so many shure cables because the cable would fraye very easily and I ended up getting a pair of fiio fa1 iems and the cable is built better since the cable is flexible and was even cheaper. I mainly used the shure se215 for making phone calls because of the in line mic but the shure cables are not bendable especially when I had to wear them to get a really good seal and the cable needs to be bent when adjusting them and the shure cables would just break way too easily. There are mixed reviews on amazon about certain mmcx cables that have an in line mic. I also have the moondrop quarks the non dsp version since it has an in line mic but i have them as a back up pair of iems plus they are cheaper than any bluetooth headphones and sound better than any bluetooth headphones.

Personally I would prefer to just buy an IEM at $300 range and pair it with a bluetooth cable, which is actually the setup that I currently use (just not with $300 IEM but much cheaper IEM). For me personally, this is a much better setup than buying a true wireless IEM since like mentioned in the video, it should be much harder to lose your buds, and also if the battery gone bad, you don't have to throw away an IEM that still producing good sound. Of course normally it doesn't have ANC or pass-through, but usually the seal is good enough and for pass-through, I can just wear it a bit loose, thus allowing more ambient sound to go through, and if I want to talk to someone, I can just remove the IEM and let it dangling .

These don't seem to nail sound quality, which is a real shame. However, I love the approach they've taken in terms of design. They managed to combine two products with the main features of each. IEM's typically have great build quality and sound, they're very durable and you can swap the cables if and when they get damaged. wireless earbuds (technically wireless IEM's, but whatever) often have app support and easy pairing, nice quality-of-life features, but have comparably lackluster sound for the price. The problem is that many people don't want wired IEM's nowadays, but wireless stuff is packed with tech and prone to wearing out very quickly compared to wired audio gear. Beyerdynamic took some of the best features of each product and rolled them into one. When the Bluetooth adapter dies, you can not only still use these wired, but you can also replace the Bluetooth adapter with a different model. Or, you could even swap the IEM piece and make any of your other IEM's wireless, with app support to boot. It's a first stab at a new product type, but I love the innovation and can't wait to see this kind of thing become more affordable.

The other options is buying a nice pair of IEM from Sennheiser or any IEM that you like with standard connecter,than buy a wireless neck loop thing from Sennheiser or audio-technica

I would hope any bluetooth headphones being released these days can support the "upcoming" Bluetooth LE audio/LC3 codec. Something that has always prevented me from buying expensive wireless is that bluetooth just doesnt hold a candle to wires. And also you need the latest phone to support bluetooth 5.2 in the first place

The Bluetooth standard is a completely mess: LDAC is from Sony, APTX is from Snapdragon (and to have Aptx HD they have to pay to have that feature. That's why Samsung doesn't have it on their phone), SBC is from Samsung, iPhone wants only sh*tty AAC. I've bought a good DAC with APTX HD some years ago. Some months ago I've bought a Samsung phone and it sounds awful because the dac only support APTX and the phone support only the base version of APTX... The dac went from sounding decent to completely sh*t on my setup. On a jack, type C, or any standard way of delivering data you don't have any of these issues: the audio starts from the phone dac and goes into the magnet. The end. One standard connector.

"wired" wireless buds are a good idea on paper, but in reality there are far to much points where it can go wrong. Sooner or later the wire part between neck band and volume module will break. Loved the sound and security of not losing the Jaybirds, but 2 sets didn´t last 3 years
@dedoyxp

I can't see the thick rubber band wire like on the vids will break anytime soon... I could see it'll break easily if its a thin wire like most jaybirds model I searched. My huawei Freelace last me more than 3 years and still keep me entertained.

I've been using neckband-style wireless IEMs years now and the only part that's failed (and only once) was a faulty charger. No broken wires, no loose ends. It helps that neckbands like these are usually made for more athletic use cases too.

0:00 I went wireless earbuds thinking it will fix all of my annoyances with cables. As it turns out ,it introduces many more annoyances that just aren't present with wires. i'd take wired iems anytime. (and you can use true wireless adapters/ earhooks to make them wireless if they have detachable cables.) get andromedas or blessing 2 with wireless adapters cheaper and better

Comparisons sake, similar price would be Shure SE846 Pro CL with Shure True Wireless 2 (for single brand easy to purchase wireless option) or some of the other BT modules on pretty much any around 1K iem... So it's not like there's no competition in that price range even wireless. With wires there's tons more of course.

Damn they have very clear V-shape frequency response. Audiophile community usually hates V-shape and those are clearly marketed towards audiophiles. The are some better IEMs available for lower price though usually you need to spend some extra for wireless TWS or BT-cable “adapters”. Or even balanced cable if you are into DAPs with balanced outs (they are cool and give you much more amplification)

Any of the Thieaudio IEMs in the $500+ price would be better. Unique Melody Mest MKI/MKII, price comparable stuff from Fearless Audio and SeeAudio. Kinera Nanna Imperial 2.0. Plenty of chi-fi IEMs that would be as good or better than these from a pure sonic standpoint.
