I love so many of Dimash's performances, but his performance of "Ikanaide" is one of my favourites. It makes my soul shiver to hear such beauty as Dimash delivers with so little tone mixed almost entirely with breath. He's been improving and perfecting that breathy tone with each passing year. I think he's close to being able to just stand on stage and breathe, and it will be music. Beautiful, unearthly music.

This song is here in its original Japanese lyrics. It was written some years ago by a Japanese artist. Later it was translated into Chinese, with different lyrics. Dimash first learned the Chinese version as Autumn Strong, and sung that first. He later learned the original Japanese version and sings it here.

Ikanaide (Please, Don't Go) was composed in 1989 by Japanese singer-songwriter Koji Tamaki, with lyrics written by Goro Matsui. It tells the true story of Yoshiko Yamaguchi, who was born in China in 1920 to Japanese parents and became a celebrated singer and actress under the Chinese name Li Xianglan. After WWII she was accused of espionage, tried, and deported to Japan, never to return to China again. The song speaks of the anguish, heartbreak, and final acceptance of this parting as the ones who loved her had no choice but to let her go.

I've often said that Dimash seems to be born, live and die with every single performance! Appearing on stage is like a transformative metamorphosis for him and he becomes the literal embodiment of the song. Dimash does not exist at the moment of performing, he leaves himself in the wings and becomes himself again when the music stops. 👉Dimash sang Ikanaide (live and for the first time in Japanese) on the Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2022. Because of the pandemic, the annual Tokyo Jazz Festival took place online again. Filmmakers verify that the videos have not been edited and manipulated, so the singer sings live. In 2020 Dimash also participated in the famous annual Tokyo Online Festival with 2 songs: * S.O.S. - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZWuinelprB_hpo * Samaltau - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXbcfayBjJKajbs The Chinese (Autuumn Strong) and Japanese (Ikanaide/ Please, Don’t Go) versions have completely different lyrics and meanings… and of course Dimash sings both very differently. The Chinese version shows the image of leaves dancing in the autumn wind as a metaphor for how fate affected Yoshiko Yamaguchi's life. ...sad but inevitable and irrevocably The Japanese version does not want to accept the loss, is full of pain, pleads, suffers ... heartbreaking. I'm totally mesmerized by how sensitively Dimash differentiates and conveys to the listener the feelings of sadness and loneliness in the Chinese version and loss and pain in the Japanese version. Even his whispers and his breath are music... it breaks my heart and the tears flow... and at the end everyone suddenly holds their breath, we hear Dimash breathing, then a deep and comforting hum. I've never heard anything like it from a singer in my entire life. Only Dimash can do that. This is true mastery. The original Japanese version Ikanaide/ Please Don’t Go (composed 1989) is by Koji Tamaki, *1958, Japanese songwriter. The sad true story... very touching: It is about Yoshiko Yamaguchi (*1920-2014), a Chinese-born Japanese actress during World War II. She hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan and became famous in China. However, when the war was over and she revealed her identity, she was accused of being a spy. She was deported to Japan and longed for China. Ms. Yamaguchi did not return to China until many years as deputy environment minister in the Japanese parliament. Actually, I think that Dimash isn't acting in his songs, but living them. So far he has refused to act in movies, and personally I believe it's the right decision. Singing is what he was born to do and what he is truly great in. I don't think he can be a really outstanding movie actor, and I am sure he realizes it himself. But he is a true and the artist as a singer because he feels everything he sings about and expresses it so we can feel it with him.

Great reaction! You say he'sa great actor, but I don't think he's acting. He feels the song. He becomes the song. He's simply expressing his emotions. Even when Dimash isn't singing words, it's still incredibly beautiful. He will blow you away with a couple of his non-lyrical performances... Not only is Dimash a amazing vocalist.. his stage presence is mesmerizing. When singing Dimash transforms to the persona of the song character... even his mom said she doesn't recognize him on stage. Further his ability to convey emotions was evident in your repressions during this reaction... thanks. A simple tip for correctly pronouncing most non English words. Unlike English pronunciation, where we pause on the consonants _con.son.ants_ Most other languages pause on the Vowels i.ka.na.i.de not ikan.aide All letters are said phonetically ie: A-ark B-ball C-cat D-dog... no Aye Bee Cee Dee, alphabet sounds etc.

Dimash's best work as an actor and singer yet is most probably the music video of Be With Me. And it shows a side of Dimash that you haven't seen yet, and another side that you haven't heard yet, so definitely a must watch. His recent video Okay tells a more dramatic story, but the song asks him to hold back with the singing. The ending is... surprising.

L❤V!!! the big background pic of Dearest Dimash!! 😎 In a fairly recent rare interview with DQ, he said of all his songs, this is his favorite to sing! Love the new video set up, really great!! I have to say as a hobby singer, singing ON that much breath and having an actual "tone" - meaning that it is not pure air at the tail end but...there is an "air tone"....and especially when he goes from vocal closure back into full breath tone...REQUIRES great mastery!! Especially moving for me being half Japanese....thank you for the REPLAYS!!! really like that you replay the extra great parts!! Wonderful!

Each cover that Dimash does he kills it and makes the song his own, but it is well worth checking out the original from 1989 by Koji Tamaki. I believe that the writer of the lyrics said Dimash's rendition was the best he had heard from a non- Japanese singer.
