Hi George, I was lucky enough to visit zoo flotman with Jurijs a few weeks back , a wonderful shop, the plant section is second to none. It truly is a superb place to visit and get lost in, time just disappears, the tanks are beautiful and the owner is such a passionate guy, who loves to pass on his knowledge. Unfortunately I never got to the koi garden. One of the best stores I have visited. Thank you so much for this , it brought back some very happy memories. Cheers George.

My favorite scape is the tank with the beautiful Melanotaenia boesemani. Besides the scape itself i really like these fish. Certainly underrated. Like you said, they do not look good when tiny and in shop conditions, but when they are in a good habitat, their colors will amaze you. I have them myself for about 15 years with several generations i bred myself. Still love them!
@frogmonkeymoo4 жыл бұрын
They are gorgeous. And quite personable too! I’ll never have enough room for the size tank they need, but whenever I see some in a display tank I’ll make a beeline for them and hang out for a while.

You explain everything so beautifully. You make the aesthetics of how the planted tanks are set up easy,for a beginner like me to understand. I really love the second scape. The third scape, I believe you said was your favorite, is absolutely gorgeous and the fish were amazing! Really, I just love them all!! I just found myself being mesmerised and my stress levels melt away when I enjoy your videos! Thank you for letting me come along!

George great scapes and commentaries. Most of us would agree that the next generation must be without any visible plumbing whatsoever., and that secondary tanks directly behind the primaries will evolve the background depth and interest.

Puts most tropical fish shops in the UK to shame. Plants for sale not being slowly killed! Not sure about the slightly artificial lighting of some tanks - the Kessils on the other hand looked really good. So many top quality display tanks in one shop. Why the use of clipped cover glass? I haven't put Nerite snails in my main tank - think I've done the right thing. Keep up the good work George, very very entertaining and the Zen style Koi garden a delight.

Love those aquascapes and Jurijs' with the cherry shrimp and cherry barbs(?), so striking. Good tip about collecting the odd stone and wood here and there to build up a collection. I do the same and the stones when not in a tank can look great on a pot with a cactus or similarly used artistically. And that pond and garden.... wow!
@frogmonkeymoo4 жыл бұрын
I agree with all of that! I have quite a few “pet rocks” arranged around my houseplants waiting for their eventual scape home. Love Jurijs’ tank too. Those are chilli rasboras btw, just as red as cherry barbs or more but tiny. They are stunning and so cute.

I had some of those rainbow fish. I think they're from Australia. They're like the Porsche of the aquariums ! They *LOVE* to swim full speed against the water flow from the return pump! Also given how fast they are they gonna take food away from everyone 😂 really loved mine. They get along with ALL the fish, even the low key/shy ones.....they don't bother anyone!

I learn everyday: You mentioned the Nerite snail eggs? For over a year now,I've seen what reminded me of small barnacles on wood and rocks every now and then. I even thought = maybe they were always there from my reef days and I never noticed? Something doesn't add up. To hear and see you show what they do? Of course!..I added one about two years ago to the big aquarium and haven't seen it in months. Must still be alive.

Those were not run of the mill M.boesemani but the Red Rainbow..hard to get. Makes a planted tank perfect. Colorful fish easy to see and great plants. The Taiwan fern..once they get size nothing makes an underwater moss and fern garden better than that plant. Near impossible to get them at anything but tiny sizes and lucky for that. That's the way to live..to have all that top of the line everything,aquariums to ponds and Koi,and they MAKE YOU MONEY!,not cost you!..Perfect!

@HappyPrometheus4 жыл бұрын
I think that the side next to the wall could have high rocks and plants covering the tubes, while on the other side small rocks and wood/tree with canyon like passages in the middle. Perhaps it would be helpful to draw some sketches first and to find harmonious proportions and then try to recreate it somewhat and maybe discover a new aqua-scape depending on actual pieces. On the other hand it could have a high wall of trees and rocks in the middle and then plant different plants on both sides so it looks like you have two aquariums in one depending from which side you look. Though I don't think you can train a particular fish to stay only on one side :)

9:54 is a checkerboard Chichlid Edit: Yes they are the same species the fish fish at 9:45 was a matured male. The others are juveniles and dont show any sexual diomorphism until a later age.

George maybe you or someone else here in the comments knows. Rainbow fish seem to be one of the few fish I see regularly in a variety of shops and often several of them have quite bent/warped/linked spines. Is this just common in rainbow fish? That's one of the only reasons I steer clear of an otherwise beautiful fish.
