Creeping Thyme is good in Central Texas. It’s a slow spreader and is level with the soil. Nice dark green color and would be good between rocks.

Thank you, great video. I’m especially happy to learn more about Frog fruit after hearing about it. Gradually converting our lawn to xeriscape/habitat (3rd yr). Texas Panhandle. Sheet mulching to start off but adding ground covers this yr! Brought home a flat of them yesterday from our local native plants nursery. Feeling excited.🌱

In some areas Creep Jenny can be aggressive. Watch it carefully.

Thank you for sharing! I just planted my first ground cover this week and you got me to wondering. So I did some researching on what I planted and it turns out that the Big Blue Lily Turf that the tag read is actually Birds-eye Pearlwort (Sagina). (Thank you Walmart!!) I knew something didn’t seem right because it turns out that the Lily Turf is the exact plants that my husband done away with because he said they were planted too close to the front door entrance and looked snaky. However, I do have lots of Purple Heart wandering Jew. It blooms pink flowers. I took screenshots of everything you shared. I’m thinking less weeds. 😊

Yes. I agree that you'll have less weeds with more ground cover.

Thank you for such a nice overview of ground cover! No drama or hype like I've experienced lately on my other gardening channels, just a lovely voice and presentation!! I'm located in a subtropical area that is on the border of zone 9 and 10. But I remember using most of these plants when I lived in Michigan. 😊

I'm using frog fruit in the small parking strip in my front yard. We live in a cul-de-sac so the area is not very big. There is some horse herb there too. We will see which one wins. I don't really care as long it's green so my HOA won't complain.

I don't know if others will think of these as gound cover but i use them in different areas of my garden & yard as ground cover & that is peppermint plants & also orange daylilies. They both have edible parts so that is fun & yummy & i love the green color & mint smell that happens with the mint. I live in NE Tx but my plant areas of these two have done well in the texas heat & sometimes icy texas winter weather. Of course they die back in winter but they come back strong in the spring. I do water them some thru the late spring into summer especially when the heat is so brutal. It helps them to get the nurtients they need to keep growing.

I agree!. I have used peppermint as ground cover. It spreads quite easily.

Woolly stemodia does very well in full sun in Central Texas. I haven’t tried it in shade. It dies back in the winter, but regrows when the temps warm up. I used it in some spots where silver ponyfoot wasn’t filling in, and it totally took over.

It does better in pots here. Our soil is too alkaline. I do love it in pots for the spillar affect.

@@therockyhillgardener Unfortunately no. This year, I am going to start a super small scale of indoor seed growing vegetables with grow light. If all goes well, planning on transferring into the backyard. Love your plants :) they look happy and healthy.
