Steve’s parents divorced when he was 8 and became somewhat estranged. He was heartbroken and music was where he found solace. So you picked up on the emotions Steve brings to everything he sings. Very humble man as well

This was cut off because there is an incredible piano solo at the end! This song is about his parent’s divorce which he stated , devastated him. You’re an empath and I am as well, and we get all the feels. Steve Perry’s solo of Foolish Heart is stunning.

Love this band. Steve Perry is in the zone here, performing as he would if in his rehearsal space. He’s such a brilliant musician and singer so he draws you into his emotion. The showmanship comes from his delivery and us witnessing his skill. He just stands in one spot and let’s it rip. 💙🎤

When you hear Journey music, it's set apart not only by the lead singers voice (Steve Perry), but on how the guitarist and the lead vocalist can blend and play off each other. They were responsible for being the writers of most of Journeys music, and making the notes come alive!

So glad you reacted to this song. You're description of Steve Perry being a sensitive singer was spot on! His voice draws you in...there's a reason he was nicknamed "The Voice". I saw Journey 3 times in the 80's so it brings back memories. Please react to more Journey! "Open Arms", "Wheel in the Sky", "Lights", "Patiently", "Faithfully"...I can go on and on!

More Journey, Anton!! You can never go wrong with them. The first concert I ever attended was Journey. Mind. Blown. They were absolutely unbelievable. And you are correct about Steve Perry -- you hear his heart and soul with every single thing he sings. Just an incredible voice. Up there with Freddie Mercury and Jeff Lynne for me. I highly, highly encourage you to listen to "Faithfully," a beautiful love song about life on the road, written by keyboardist Jonathan Cain and Steve sings the hell out of it, "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'," which Steve wrote after a girlfriend cheated on him, "Stone in Love" (catch their version from this 1981 concert) and "Wheel in the Sky." I'd also suggest listening to their appearance on the Midnight Special in 1978, I think, where Steve shares vocals with then-keyboardist Greg Rolie - "Feelin' that Way" and "Anytime." But more Journey! More Journey!

Steve Perry is and was a very emotional, sensitive guy.. and that's not a knock at all... it's just who he was. Theres a rock legend about when they toured with Van Halen in the 70s...the most macho of macho bands... they pulled a prank on Steve that ruined his new satin tour jacket... and apparently he cried.. so they made fun of him for that. For Steve, it was the first time having that kind of keepsake.. and to him it was a sign that he had "made it" so it hurt him to have it ruined. Hes also a bit of a "mama's boy".. again, not a knock.. just that his mom was everything to him. And he gravitated to emotional singers like Sam Cooke, who's style you can clearly hear in his singing.

The one thing I really loved about Journey and Steve Perry in comparison to so many bands at the time is that you could actually hear and understand him over the music which is not the case for so many at the time. They were the best band of the time and a pleasure to see in concert. The term your looking for is not sensitive but empathetic which are similar.

Great reaction. I just wanted to clarify the 7th son for you in response to some of the comments I have seen below. The 7th son reference is NOT a reference to the Prodigal son from the bible. It is a reference to European folklore where the 7th son has the power of healing and the 7th son of the 7th son is magic. In the parable of the prodigal son, there are only two sons in total.

I had their album titled "Next." It was the one released right before the Infinity album; which is the one when the band added Steve Perry for vocals. And wow, did Perry ever add to what the band was prior to that Infinity album. Neal Schon, guitarist, was near 16 yrs when he was already known by Santana and Eric Clapton. Eric Clapton heard Neal in a studio and was asked to join Derek and the Dominos...but he turned Clapton down and joined Santana instead at age 17yrs; and recorded on two of Santana's records. He then left and formed Journey in '73 or '74 I think.

Just thought I would say, apparently the song is about a boy who is either alcoholic or drug addicted that Steve knew in his hometown when he was younger. How the family was torn because of it. The seventh son in folklore usually means that they have some sort of healing powers. So basically, I take this song to mean the son has many problems but feels he’ll heal himself and it will all be fine, but the family is a mess with worry and at that time a lot of embarrassment and accusations that the parents didn’t stop this from happening to him. They really DID sound that good. In fact they were better live! Extraordinary musicians, and Steve Perry‘s voice is just unmatched… Absolutely phenomenal. I was in junior high when this came out and that was a long time ago… I’ve been a fan from day one. They’re amazing.

Actually dating back to the late 60s, audio recordings are just as good then as it is today if, and I repeat "if" they were recorded on high end machines and masters were preserved well. FYI, usually "re-mastered" official cuts are noted in the title of videos and records and are usually identical to the original audio, perhaps cleaned up from master tape his that can form over the years, other times they play with the mix and will sound a bit different sonically. I still play old Santana, Rolling Stones, Beatles LPs from their early pressings (60s and 70s) and they are super clear and stereophonic. Lots of times when people say or think sound quality in old videos are crap is because we have to keep in mind that we often hear second, third, fourth hand versions and with internet then YT audio compression, well that is a recipe to give anyone a bad listening experience.
