I put 2 songs in the comments for you to listen to since you love Journey!! Both underrated!! People & Places & Precious Time!! YOU WILL BE AMAZED by the versatility, words of both songs!! Journey is so much more than the MS songs that were & are still popular. Don't get me wrong I love those songs too but there's others that are so good & for different reasons. Also check out Dixie Highway, for a fun upbeat w/ the jazzy/blues rock mix. On YT preformed in Osaka Japan 1980

God bless you brother! The way you describe Journey and why they're you favorite hit's the nail perfectly on the head. There's no one like Steve Perry. I was lucky enough to see this version of Journey live several times and they were epic. I completely agree with everything you said. You're doing great work. Peace.

Hey Devon, you need to hear the song lay it down from the escape album is the highest note Steve has ever hit. It’s beyond amazing and you’ll be blown away. Mother father is absolutely one of the best songs he’s ever sang, but this other one will blow your way as well. It’s a higher note than he’s hit on mother and father if you can believe that.

Michael Asay only once...1983. I will never forget it. I was forever changed by that concert. 3 sold out shows in my hometown. I was lucky enough to get a ticket...which I still have. I remember hearing Steve Perry singing live...all the songs I loved. He sounded amazing live. I remember thinking. I can’t believe I’m actually seeing my absolute favorite band live. Wow!!! There’s just something very special about this band. This group of guys. The music grabs my attention and doesn’t let go. I’ll be a fan for another 40 years.

Steve has always said that Mother Father was his most difficult song to sing live. It's so emotionally draining in living up to the expectation live as to what he laid down on record with this number one album per Escape and the touring schedule. One if the reasons Steve said he did little per touring via interviews etc. Saving his voice for the performance and his rituals per glycerin and other solutions used to preserve his vocals was necessary. We seem to think his talents are effortless but talents take work. Early on he expressed how a vocalist is so very different per the other musicians in a band and how if you are a guitarist and get calluses on your fingers it's a good thing, same with drumming but for a singer, if you get calluses or nodules on your vocal chords, you are finished as a singer. He was out of this world still is in a different key as a more mature artist.

Also, Journey didn't perform Mother Father in the whole Escape tour, only certain cities would treated to this song! There is another audio live performance of MF here on yt. I can't remember where it's at. I'll check my 'likes' and post it here for you if you'd like. The performance is good, but not as great as in Houston!! Just in my opinion!

Voice nodules DO NOT mean the end of a singer's career. Voice nodules are now treated by voice therapy which is a behavioral modification program for the voice.

This is a phenomenal performance by Journey and Steve's vocals take it to a new level. Jonathan Cain (keyboards) said that when they recorded this for their album, Steve did it in one take! That sounds fantastic, too but i love this live performance best.

If you want other Classic Journey concerts to react to check out 'I'm Cryin' from Japan 1980. Now talk about a performance!!!!! The camera work isn't good but the performance is breath taking!!!!

Steve’s runs are amazing , it’s more than the high notes ! Arnel can’t do what Steve did & neither could the others that have tried , although along came Castranovo & he handled his vocal duties filling in quite nicely ! Steve Smith was an amazing drummer with Journey & once again Deen came in & handled that role nicely ! I hope Deen’s better now for I understand that struggle & yes , Journey’s sound & technique is second to none ! Neal is Neal & Jonathan Caine can’t be replaced & true to my love for music & Journey in particular the 1981 show in Houston is probably the best live show ever recorded for those boys were tight as can be on that night & the best way I can put it is “ they were cookin “ that night @ The Omni !

Since you love Journey & I've loved them from the moment I heard them back in 77-78! You HAVE TO hear People & Places & Precious Time!! Both of these songs are underrated & People & Places is the only song that Neal Schon sings as lead (at the beginning of the song), the harmonies (echoes) is INCREDIBLE & of course the words are meaningful. Precious Time is OUTSTANDING with it's patriotic words & the feel of blues/rock, the harmonica that Gregg Rolie plays is amazing!! You can find them on YT preformed in Osaka Japan 1980! The overwhelming God given talent of Journey is still being appreciated today!!

Devin, I hear you about how good Journey is! I was a fan back in the 70's (even in the days before Steve Perry) but I really locked in with the "Escape" album, in '82/83! I'm a drummer and Steve Smith is one of the best drummers on the planet. Neal Schon is INSANE! But, I wanted to tell you that among all the great songs on Escape, there are two in particular that are BANGERS! And they come one after the other, songs # 7 & 8: "Lay It Down" and "Dead of Alive". These two songs, again back-to-back bangers, are totally RIPPING good songs! If you want to rock out, my brother, please check out these two songs! You will get crazy with it, I'm telling you!

The lead guitar player, Neal Schon, started as a guitar player for Santana when Neal was just 17 yrs of age. This is truly one of their most amazing songs. My first Journey album was NEXT from 1977...this singer was not yet in the band. The following year, 1978, Steve had joined Journey and they recorded and released the album; Infinity. What a transformation Steve made on Journey. Listen to anything pre-INFINITY and you'll hear what I mean.
