They went to school with my father in-law and his siblings..they would tell us tales of the Krays..one story when they were teenagers ..Ron had been thrown out of the Saturday matinee,he returned with a bike chain,used against the manager.. Another tale Reg would sing Maggie outside aunt Margarets bedroom window.. they were young at the time ..The best tale Mrs Kray gave my mother in law her twin pram..as she was expecting twins ..my husband survived,sadly his twin Maureen didnt.. Shame they didn't hang onto the pram ..wonder what happened to it??

I'm under no illusion that the Krays were vicious criminals, but I have always had a level of respect for their story. London is full of Gangs and idiots with knives mugging people. I genuinely think that if the Krays were around today things wouldn't be as bad as they demanded a level of respect from everyone in their Manor as they would say. For all their faults they had hearts and as you said did give to charity's. I would never condone how they had lived but if people in 2023 are still talking about them then that in itself shows levels of respect. Amazing video shar, knocked this one out the park. 😎❤

Thank you so much Gerry! I’m absolutely fascinated by the whole era - the regular people, the gangs, clothes, cars, politics - I could go on forever about it 🤭 I’m interested in the truth behind the gloss - because the truth is even more amazing! back in the 60's my late father was a health inspector in what is now tower hamlets. he'd often get calls to sort out problems for the residents and he had a soft spot for " little old ladies " ( an east end boy himself he equated them to his own mum and treated them as such ) one day he got called on to sort something that was distressing this lady- he got the problem sorted in a day or so,, after months of nothing happening- dad was like that he didn't know her but just as he did for others he got the job done. a bit later he was told her sons very much appreciated the help he gave to there mum. after that dad never had a problem with cars being nicked or damaged, people trying it on, even making sure his house was sare,,, yup charlie and the twins geld a lot of sway. the best bit, they thought dad had pulled strings for their mum because of them,lol, he did exactly the same for others the boys didn't know that !

Really good to learn about the personal background of the whole Kray family. I don't know exactly when it was (early 60's?) but Ronnie was sectioned in Long Grove hospital, Epsom. Reggie came to visit him, wearing a coat over his suit. Ronnie was wearing the exact same suit and when visiting time was over he put on his brother's coat and made his escape. The lead nurse was furious and locked Reggie in a padded cell until the police arrived hours later

Another fascinating and enlightening documentary 🙏🏻 I knew people who ‘knew’ the Crays but you never really knew if they really did - ask any London taxi driver a few years ago and they would tell stories! They all said the same thing though, that they were respectable gangsters and would only pick on their own. I guess this would give normal hard-working Londoners peace of mind when it came to safety on the streets, a thing that has long gone now, so there might be something in it… one can hope. Thanks again and I will continue through your journey of enchanting documentaries as a wiser and more enlightened fan 🌷X

Wow! I didn't expect this 👍🙂 Ronnie and Reggie Kray, seemed to be a British equivalent of 'Wise Guys, Goodfellas or Mobsters.' They certainly cut an intimidating look in their nice suits and skinny ties, usually scowling at the camera. They wouldn't have looked out of place running a casino on the 'Strip in Las Vegas.' Giving the local hoodlums a run for their money. Bringing in the punters and roughing up the card counters in a back alley. 'The Portcullis' a British themed casino, Shirley Bassey doing a residency. Jokes aside, they were criminals, who did all kinds of really brutal things and despite these, the long arm of the so called law, took ages to finally put a stop to their rackets. Friends in high places? You bet. Rubbing shoulders with the movers & shakers of the day. Of course. I wouldn't have liked to have been on the receiving end of their malice and violence but at least they at the end of the day, were honest crooks. Feared by most but a grudging respect from probably, a naive local community, who just saw a couple of local lads, make good & lots of money, playing the system at its own game. They loved their Mum and were kind to children😵💫 Death is unfortunately, even for the Krays and their wild ways, the great leveller. I'd like to be the Krays for just one day. Kissing all the girls & shooting all the bad guys... 😉😐🤔🤜🤛

@@BeautifulBadandBizarre I'm not familiar w/that hotel but NYC has so many! My parents were married at the Hotel New Yorker in 1957. I took a hop on-hop off bus tour & the tour guide said it was going to be converted into office space. My dad loved performing & I did too but I dislike "The Business" so just did local stage work( though I did work as a movie extra as a kid) My brother was a child actor ( he was the movie "War Games" he's the little blondish boy at the beginning who's playing a video game ) & TV commercials & modeling for newspaper adverts for local dept stores. Yep,we were a real "Show Biz" family!

@@BeautifulBadandBizarre I haven't seen "Legend" but I'll try & check it out; It's a brutal sport but I love a good Boxing movie!👍 That's really interesting about your father in law; it seems Boxing & Organized Crime are close cousins. Brooklyn has its v.posh areas & dodgy ones awa alot of history since the Revolutionary War was fought there. I can find my way around Manhattan pretty well but I kept getting lost in Brooklyn; I guess bcuz I wasn't familiar w/the area & the streets aren't arranged in a grid pattern. Still,glad I went there!👍

This woman is superb. Always interesting and worth a listen if you cope with her girlie voice.

Good to hear the krays looked after the victims of bullies,,reminds me of couple guys I once knew,,ye,it worked,,bullies backed off,,,I'll state there was good and bad in the krays,but again they would meet bad people,,they decided to show them all how to be such,,same ole story concerning many who went off straight and narrow,,The two guys they murdered as they say,well,both wrote own death warrants,,Jack the hat nasty piece of work,,ye,he pushed a woman out of his car travelling at 30mph,,,left her with life long injuries,,as fr cornel in blind beggers pub,,well,another nasty piece of work,,I see it if krays hadn't eliminated them some other guys would of further down road,gangsters everywhere at time ,for some strange reason the krays were liked even by celebrities who visited their nightclub the two rs,photographs of celebs proves it so not hearsay,,ye,the downfall was the two assassinations I'll call them,,I rest,jcvw

SORRY MY LOVE, BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW YOU WOULD LAY FLOWERS ON GRAVES OF NOTORIOUS MURDEROUS GANGSTERS. FOLK WERE TERRIFIED OF THEM. ?
@BeautifulBadandBizarre2 жыл бұрын
Because I choose to - I don’t condone what they did - but that doesn’t mean I should be disrespectful when I visit a grave - I wouldn’t dream of visiting a grave without taking flowers

The only folk who were terrified were those in the same business! They had the greatest respect for women and children, and the respect was reciprocated..
