As someone who has animation experience I know where they went wrong animating Beast. The beast is supposed to be about 8ft tall with hocks instead of knees. Yet they seem to have used a male of average height for reference. Tall people tend to be stooped and with an especially broad chest the beasts should be at least struggling to stay up. Just scaling up a human just doesn't work. Centre of gravity should be factored into CGI. The original got this right because if focused on movement. This on focused on how many hairs they could give him

Also the horns In the original the beast has tiny bull like horns And in the CGI one he has long Buffalo horns for some reason I don't like that bit it changes the characters actually, the beast is ferocious so he charges head first he wants to be part of society but he can't because he's different, the CGI one just want to sit back and be alone The horns point into the direction the characters go

The transformation scene at the end was awful. Seriously go watch it and then go watch the 1991 original scene. The animated original has so much emotion and romance and passion and god damn feels it made me cry when I first saw it as a little girl and then 25 years later it STILL made me cry as a grown woman. The remake was so wooden and dead and lifeless. It didn't look like they loved each other at all. Paige O Hara, her voice was filled almost bursting with emotion compared to Emma Watsons. This remake was useless and when my little girl is old enough to sit and watch a full length movie she'll be watching the original 1991 version which in my opinion is the only one anyone should watch. I'm not looking forward to Aladdin. I'm dreading it.

I say this as someone that is mixed race. The diversity is distracting. In the castle I get it the prince get people who are the best in the world regardless of race. But the town with no memory of the prince in old providential France were not tolerant of race. I've been in France and STILL get flack for my race

It's actually something that causes a problem in the movie. For instance the villagers are all offended and outraged when Belle is teaching a young girl to read but that makes no sense because if they are progressive enough to have black people in prominent roles in their village and even a mixed race couple then why would teaching a girl to read be considered offensive? It legitimately makes no sense. The teaching the girl to read scene was pointless tbh. I hated the remake.

As a Filipino-Chinese, AND someone who loves history, I agree... if they weren't so keen on making it look more "historically accurate" (the LACK of accuracy is very, very annoying) I would be fine with seeing people of other race and not questioning it. But when they really push the setting and time period, it's a bit distracting, so I wish they'd addressed it more or something.

About your opinion of Lefou being gay, I totally agree with you. When my mum and I first heard that he would be gay, I was totally against it. This takes place long ago when lots of things were unacceptable, including homosexuality, and I was so pissed off when I found out they were doing this because it doesn't fit the freaking time period! People weren't just openly gay back then. I honestly have nothing against gay people, but it just doesn't work for this movie.

The main problem of this Remake is the story. The Enchantress broke out the Prince party in rude manner then he cursed him only for having refused a rose of worth little, that's not the point. The Enchantress was supposed to went to him to teach him about how does it feel to be judged by the appearance and that you must not be selfish, the rose is only a part of the contest but not the main aim. They also add some particulars that has nothing to do with the main plot (the abusive father, mothers death) and some particulars that haven't been used at end (Belle invention, the magic book of the Beast) and given the Enchantress a bigger role in the story, but she's the promoter she can't interfore in the story only at end can! In the whole story Belle and Beast had no chemistry, they turned Lefou into a gay for no reason and there was nothing that made us prove disgust on Gaston. This story got *ZERO SPLIT*

Also the beast seemed to have too many human characteristics compared to the cartoon, in the cartoon you saw him far more hunched over and going on all fours with his tail and ears moving like a natural animal, also with his face he had more of a snout and his horns were protruding forward making him look far more monstrous, giving him an appearance of being something like a cross between a wolf and a bull, where on the new remake has him looking far more like a cross between a lion and a goat (that would not necessarily be a bad thing) but they kept his face far too flat and keeping a lot more human appearances, but in the original he looked far more animal and much more scary and intimidating. Also something Disney keeps on doing, in the story it’s meant to be set in a historical time and they have dark skinned people, although there may well have been some dark skinned people in France at the time, They would’ve been classed as third class citizens, they would not have been a black preacher or anyone in high office. That being said the remake did sort out a major plot hole which was from the original, after the spell was cast all their loved ones and the outside world forgot of their existence which did make a lot more sense considering when a prince goes missing people generally know about it and go looking for him.

i actually quite liked Luke Evans as Gaston and he has a good singing voice and looks a lot like Gaston. Emma Watson, on the other hand, was a complete miscast, and not just on the outside. I saw her in Sophia Copolla's The bling ring and didn't think she was bad, but here she just played Hermione Granger in a dress. She managed to totally hide all the characteristics that made Belle so popular as a Disney princess and turned her into a completely different woman. And then she doesn't even manage to convey a little emotion in the right places. I'm afraid Watson, who took great liberties with Belle's performance, was too busy trying to make her a modern, non-corset-wearing feminist, forgetting that acting isn't about marketing your own views, it's about studying a character and bringing it across. Lily James did a much better job of that in Cinderella.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of Lefou as gay was a pointless, stupid idea. It completely destroys his character and to put a gay guy in a time where the even the THOUGHT of being a homosexual was insane and idiotic. Plus, Lefou was more of a fanboy of Gaston as well as his hilarious sidekick, which made me love him even more. While I agree that the remake had some descent moments, it was just another cash-grab for Disney. For like the old saying goes, "You can't beat the original."

I personally liked this remake well enough, but even I have to agree there were some flaws. Mainly, I concur that they could have done a better job with the beast. I often wondered why they even went CGI with him to begin with. There's a 1980's beauty and the beast tv show starring Ron Pearlman and his beast make-up was astounding-especially for the time! If Hollywood could pull that for a simple tv show, why oh why couldn't they do it for the live-action version? The CGI made him feel more cartoonish, which in a live-action remake is the worst thing you can do. Had ALL the characters-including belle been CGI then that would have been one thing. They shouldn't have done that here. But other than that I felt it wasn't too bad. But that's just me.

I find it funny that so many say that it was cut and paste, I didn't see it that way, and I don't mean just obvious additions such as Belle being hit the snowball or the weird time travel thing with the book. The movie, from my POV, followed the same beats, but those beats rang so hollow. They cut out important parts like Gaston offering to free Maurice if Belle marries him. They altered the library scene, the Something There sequence (WHY are they sitting at opposites ends of the dining table when he sings "and we touched, she didn't shudder at my paw"?) the scene when Beast frees Belle, and many others.

The only thing from the new version I enjoyed, was that Belle's father was fleshed out a lot more. In the animated movie, he was shown as silly and always ending up getting Belle in trouble, and I never really cared much about him. He was just a goofy side character to me. In the new version, he actually has a story and for the first time, I found myself caring about what happened to him. Its the only good thing I can recall from my 1 time seeing the movie.

So I just started watching the LA version and I was immediately disappointed with the scene when Gaston decides to feed Maurice to the wolves instead of threatening to have him institutionalized if Belle refused to marry him . It just seemed out of place and in the original movie it made Gaston seem like a much more intimidating and influential villain. So far I feel like Gaston is portrayed as a slightly slippery guy albeit a bit of a spoiled brat with anger management issues, whereas in original version he's much more menacing and knows how to wield his influence

YES!!! Exactly. The monologue in the beginning was terrible compared to the original that was perfectly dramatic. The play by play re-enactments fell flat bc they did not have the same heart. Like you said, it felt like the directors did not understand the original and what made it so lovely and touching. They only cared about introducing woke feminism and failed even at that bc it was too forced n not believable. The original Belle was perfectly feminine and empowering for women at the same time. Also Kevin Klines performance felt so off

Well if the live action movie was more competent then it would have made the comparison more challenging. But instead the live action version did not hold a candle to the original movie and it made this comparison too easy.

I understand that remaking any belved filmcan be a touchy subject for anyone who grew up with the origonals. I myself was one of these people but chose to give it a go considering I knew of the origonal books it was based off, I understood what the directer was going for in their approch.There could have been one or two parts that could have been done better but as a whole I think it has done well in anwering all the unaswered questions and giving more screen time fore the enchantriss I think was a smart decition.

What I like most about Beauty and the Beast (2017) is that Dan Stevens portrayed the Beast through motion-capture. However, I don't like how it was done. Poor Dan Stevens had to act out his scenes twice; with how advanced the technology is these days, he should've only had to do it once.

Lol, that's fair enough. If you watch the original though the mistakes in the remake will be a lot more apparent to you. If you haven't seen the original though I can understand why you would enjoy the live action version. Thanks for watching and commenting buddy!
