This is an important discussion. While empowerment looks different for everyone, beauty pageants are ultimately businesses driven by profit. We should celebrate the women who succeed, but exploitation is a real concern. The organizers often redefine empowerment as a marketing tactic, masking the underlying commercial motives.

I was really annoyed watching this video with all the facial expressions made by Jade when Pushpika was speaking and the way jade spoke throughout I really don't think she brought the revolution as she claims to do it. What was the whole stupid comparison between the sports and the beauty contest. On the other hand Pushpika seemed very well spoken and well prepared lady.

The biggest point being beauty pageants have existed for decades, consuming vast resources and claiming to empower women. But what have they actually achieved? When we look at groundbreaking women in science, politics, business, or social justice, how many rose to prominence through pageants? If these contests truly empowered women, shouldn't we see measurable improvements in gender equality or career advancement directly attributed to them? The reality is, while pageants have been parading women across stages, real progress has come from women breaking barriers in boardrooms, laboratories, and beyond - all without needing a tiara. This begs the question: after years of investment in this format of supposed empowerment, what tangible, positive outcomes can pageants claim that justify their continued existence?

She's actually comparing beauty pageant with sports. Like one's as subjective it can get and the other is entirely objective. Goal hane jitcha nabhye harcha. She's missing the point and sticking to having only one "winner" in other sports too clearly missing the psychological impact. In sports, people lose because they didn't play well enough thay day, their skills weren't up to par which can we workable thus the sportsman spirit. Here, you lose sends the message that you're not beautiful enough - it's your judgment on your inherent worth as a person. Telling someone "you didn't run fast enough" is different from saying "you're not pretty enough". The former motivates improvement ; tha latter damages sele esteem. And the metrics of judgment is vague and unreasonable with biases of commercializing the show. Its insane to compare sports winners with beauty pageant saying its a competion that embarks competence and confidence. She's clearly living in her own world talking about what she "ACHIEVED".

If beauty pageants are all about developing one’s personality, improving public speaking, and boosting confidence, then what purpose do personality development and public speaking classes serve? The money you invest in a pageant, which can be substantial, could be better spent on classes specifically designed for those skills. We don’t need beauty pageants to build confidence, public speaking and self-development courses can do that more effectively. Beauty pageants, in reality, are often nothing more than a scam. How exactly are they helping society or empowering other women? If the goal is simply to boost confidence, how does winning a title contribute to making a meaningful impact? Once the crown is won, it primarily benefits the organization and the individual winner. The supposed ‘social causes’ are often token gestures, and donating a small sum after the pageant doesn’t genuinely empower women or create lasting change in society.

Some men go to bodybuilding competitions out of their interest and some women go to beauty pageants because of their interest. I think we should take it that way. Problems are in every sector, all should work on solving those problem. The lawyer has valid points and Jane got recognition through beauty pageants. So, we cannot discredit the impact of beauty pageant. So rather than banning certain contests, working to improve the contests would be a better option.
@sonakc85963 ай бұрын
Both individuals had valid points from their perspectives, and it was a healthy discussion that had been long awaited. Such conversations are much needed. However, one aspect that didn’t sit well with me was the reaction during the exchange. While you speak about women’s empowerment, supporting each other, and creating positive societal change, it was disheartening to see how another woman’s point was not received as respectfully. Pushpika had a valid perspective, and we must acknowledge that people come with different opinions and perceptions. Why the reaction? I felt bad for Pushpika, and I believe Jade's response in that moment wasn’t necessary. I have been a huge supporter of yours and will continue to be, as you have broken stereotypes in beauty pageants, which I admire. But this particular behavior felt a bit out of place. I hope we can all engage in discussions with empathy and mutual respect, regardless of differing opinions.

I strongly agree with Pushpika, but I feel one important topic was overlooked: the bikini round. While it is often framed as a celebration of body positivity, I question its true impact. Are there any women who have genuinely embraced their bodies more after watching contestants strut in bikinis and high heels? Additionally, Dipika mentioned the skills she acquired through participating in beauty pageants. However, I find it hard to see the practicality of skills like catwalking in everyday life. How often does one need to walk down a busy street or around their home in that manner? As for public speaking, if someone enters a pageant without prior experience, it raises the question: why did they choose to join in the first place? It seems more logical that genuine public speakers develop their skills through diverse experiences rather than through beauty pageants. The essence of public speaking lies in authentic engagement, not merely in the glitz of competition. In my view, beauty pageants have become little more than a business that commercializes the concept of empowered women. They often present an illusion of empowerment while primarily focusing on aesthetics and marketability. This commodification can detract from the genuine progress women are making in various fields, reducing their accomplishments to mere entertainment. Ultimately, the true essence of empowerment lies in substance and capability, rather than the superficial glamour that pageants often promote.

It’s sad to see how women are inherently made to believe that seeking validation from the male gaze is the only way to feel desired. We must learn to question the conventionally accepted ways of ‘objectifying women’, whether it be through pop culture, cultural traditions, norms, customs, and religious values. Be a rebel and never ever succumb to the absurdity of beauty standards and ridiculous pageantry rules that define what beauty should look like. Capitalism cannot be challenged in today’s society that is rapidly escalating towards Globalisation however, women need to realize what true power means and where it lies! ❤

Message to the girl sitting on the right side: First of all, please don’t diminish the value of sports competitions by comparing them to beauty pageants. Athletes in sports are judged based on their performance, with clear, objective results-whether they win or lose-unlike in beauty pageants where subjective judgments on appearance, speaking, and walking are made by a panel of businessmen and other judges. There's no measurable score or factual evidence in beauty pageants as there is in sports. You mentioned that beauty pageants are popular in developed countries, but then cited examples like Thailand and the Philippines, both of which have significant poverty issues. This contradiction highlights the flaws in your argument. You claim to support women’s empowerment, but then reinforce the stereotype that sports are for boys and beauty pageants are for girls. How does discouraging girls from participating in sports and instead promoting beauty competitions empower them? Encouraging young girls to focus on their appearance rather than their abilities is harmful, especially for those who may not win and subsequently question their self-worth. Your attempt to criticize the other girl by saying, "Aren't you wearing makeup right now?" missed the mark. She wasn’t opposing makeup or fashion. What she was challenging is the way beauty pageants are framed as "women’s empowerment," when in fact they select contestants based on narrow criteria like shape, size, height, and age-as if those who don’t fit these standards aren’t worthy of empowerment. These contests crown only a few winners, leaving the rest to grapple with insecurity about their looks and abilities. Why not face the reality? Beauty pageants are businesses, designed to make a few winners famous, while the rest are left with feelings of inadequacy. They often serve as platforms for launching careers in media and entertainment, which is perfectly fine. But they shouldn’t be advertised as selecting women who will transform the country or spearhead major social causes. Your comment, unfortunately, only highlighted a misunderstanding of her actual argument.

But this video is not about who won and who lost but more about bringing front the relalities of beauty pagent whether it be child pagent or miss universe.

The debate was insightful, but it felt one-sided. One person dominated the discussion, almost like a lawyer presenting a case, while the other was left to just respond. It became more of an interrogation than a balanced debate. Some comments point out the facial expressions made by one of the participants while the other spoke. While not respectful, it might have been an unconscious reaction. Overall, both had strong points-the "lawyer" made solid arguments, and the responses from the other side were well-put. It would have been more balanced if both had an equal chance to lead the conversation instead of one defending the entire time.

yes indeed their are lots of women in science, business, activists they empower women and make a huge amount of impact but beauty pagents also empower women for being confident in themselves and it is a way of showcasing themselves to the world also a form of income for most of them. For example our miss universe she has also set an example to the world for showing that you dont need to be a certain way to be considered beautiful which can help the plus sized women to bulid confidence in themselves. Also about the business obviously you would like to choose the person who you think is the best to represent your organisation to gain profit which i dont see anything wrong wouldn't you want the person who you think is the best?
@niti55803 ай бұрын
Jane comparing pagents with sports was just plain stupid and stubborn. Athletes aren’t judged on their physical attractiveness. They’re judged on their skill of their sport. Their physical attractiveness is just a biproduct of their training. She has to know that right? She’s either blinded by her bias or she’s just trying to prove herself right. Jane you empowered yourself. You won a competition. Good for you. But you do not represent me or any other woman from Nepal. You winning has had no more impact on my life than any other woman working for her own life.

I can’t agree with pushpika. there are also Women who are not interested in law, business , doctor etc they can have interest in showbiz and art areas doesn’t mean the choice of their is wrong. Beauty pageants can significantly empower women by offering a platform to advocate for social causes, develop leadership skills, and promote personal growth. They encourage confidence and self-expression, challenging outdated beauty standards while celebrating diversity and individuality. International pageants allow women to serve as cultural ambassadors, representing their country and culture on the global stage. This not only fosters global awareness but also positions women as powerful symbols of national pride, promoting cultural understanding and respect.. everytime negative aspects matra herera matra hudaina. Living examples Are PRIYANKA CHOPRA, SUSHMITA SEN they are very good examples. Being a doctor, engineer, business woman can be dream then why not being Miss universe,world..? So it is also a great platform to shine for women.
@anaspiringsinger3 ай бұрын
About PRIYANKA CHOPRA- She has maketed herself really well. She came from a well off family, but always showcases herself as middle class. Her stands on things are very dupe. She claims to be asthma patient only during diwalis but use crackers on her own wedding. She was endorsing fairness products. Someone on a platform like that calling herself as an empowered women shall be responsible as well. If people look up to PC as their idol, please go ahead. But, i wouldn't personally think of her as an empowered women just because of her fame. PERIOD.
@seanthehuman20513 ай бұрын
@@anaspiringsinger whatever and wherever she comes doesn’t have to do with empowerment. What she did being a pageant winner is what i’m talking about. Mean While male actors have traditionally dominated the film industry, PC today is experiencing greater success and recognition, not only by outperforming their male counterparts in certain areas but by reshaping the industry from the inside out. Through powerful performances, box office appeal, award-winning roles.also advocating for gender equality and working behind the scenes . Not only in Bollywood but globally. Isn’t it the one of the phenomenal example. The starting point was Beauty pageant. So its a great platform which provides wings for those women who really want to fly high

The starting point was miss universe is what I agree. But she is an exception. What happened to the other miss universe? And to add to pushpika's point, they all eventually ended up in showbiz. Even Manushi chillar ended up in showbiz. So, how are they doing any different? I wouldn't say she dominated the industry. Kangana was the one who actually made a stand for women in showbiz.
