In the 80s I saved up all of my change in my dad’s “tall boy” beer can. He told me once it was full I could buy a strawberry shortcake doll. Kmart didn’t have her so I ended up getting Lemon Meringue. There was a full color insert that had all of the dolls in the line. I was looking at that and dreaming of owning them all. ❤❤❤

I’m a Barbie girl through and through but Mattel really did Hasbro dirty over that Jem line. I LOVE Jem! If Mattel hadn’t felt so (rightfully so) threatened by the Jem line and literally stole their idea so they could create and fast-track Barbie and the Rockers to release BEFORE the Jem dolls, Jem would have been SO much bigger than she was before Mattel got ahold of her. To be fair, though, the cartoon was ICONIC and Mattel could NOT take that away, try as they might!

I agree! I was in my 20s in the 1980s, so never watched the cartoon, but discovered the Jem dolls about 20 years ago and have collected them ever since! I have always been a hard rock music fan, so these dolls are so cool and iconic of the 80s to me! I wish I could afford the newer ones

I read an article about the Cabbage Patch dolls way back in the days of the initial craze. A woman had supposedly gone out on her lunch hour and managed to snag one, which her coworkers "kidnapped". They left a ransom note demanding that she provide brownies to get the doll back. She didn't take it seriously, so they left a small container of coleslaw on her desk with a note that said something like, "This is her arm. Bring the brownies or you will never see her again!" I thought that was pretty clever, if a bit disturbing, and still remember it all these decades later.

I also had a Lil Miss Makeup/Dressup (I’ve found her under both names). You could change her face and hair with ice water. I’m pretty sure I also had a doll called Jenny. I just checked and she was made by Fisher Price and she’s called My Friend Jenny (1982). I’d forgotten about so many of these dolls. What a blast from the past. I’m kinda surprised how many of them I had-my parents must’ve spent a small fortune on me (which would’ve been difficult seeing as how we weren’t rich).❤ Edit to add: The Heart Family set! You didn’t mention that, did you? I think it was Mattel. It had a Barbie and Ken looking mom and dad and a baby boy and girl (like Kelly sized). That Heart Family dad was the only Ken-like doll I had (because who would waste their money buying Ken? 😝). He had to be all my Barbie’s boyfriend 😂 Edit again: My Buddy and Kid Sister (maybe Hasbro?) we’re also pretty memorable. Crap! I’m back again to add: Quints. I loved these. Tiny mini dolls that were quintuplet babies. They had little outfits and furniture. I wanted all of it so bad 😅 And Cupcake Dolls! (I think these were Tonka or Kenner or one of the other younger kid companies.)

SOOOO nostalgic! I was born in 1981, so this video featured so many that were part of my childhood collection! 🥰 (The vast majority of which I still have) My Little Pony was my absolute favorite- each of my ponies was best friends with one of my sister's ponies. I not only still have my original herd, but I started getting them off eBay as a teenager after the original generation ended! I had a Lady Lovely Locks- my original doll was lost, although I oddly still have her dress and one shoe. Thankfully, I found a replacement for her at a vintage shop a few years ago. I never had a Moondreamer, but I dressed as one for Halloween one year. I still have my Shimmer mommy and baby. I still have my Cabbage Patch, Dolly Surprise, Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite dolls (Patty O'Green, Shy Violet, and Tickled Pink- Rainbow herself and Starlight the horse belonged to my sister), Crystal Barbie, and Barbie and the Rockers Dana doll! (Also Angel Face Barbie who wasn't mentioned in the video.) Oh, I don't think you mentioned the Heart Family! They were friends of Barbie- a set of parents with 2 little toddlers. As a kid, I was more into them than Barbie herself- I had (still have) the car, the nursery, the preschool, the playroom, and the playground plus some extra cousin babies. I predict you will cover American Girl dolls in the next installment- although they were introduced in 1986, their peak popularity was in the 90s. They are the heart of my doll collection, so I do hope you feature them!

I remember having a Miss Anita doll as my first every doll. But after that all the dolls I had were Barbie & Sindy.
