The blonde girl in the Rainbow Brite commercial is the late, Heather O’Rourke. She was best known for playing Carol Ann in the Poltergeist film franchise. She died at the age of 12 in 1988 due to septic shock following emergency surgery.

In the 80s I saved up all of my change in my dad’s “tall boy” beer can. He told me once it was full I could buy a strawberry shortcake doll. Kmart didn’t have her so I ended up getting Lemon Meringue. There was a full color insert that had all of the dolls in the line. I was looking at that and dreaming of owning them all. ❤❤❤

I’m a Barbie girl through and through but Mattel really did Hasbro dirty over that Jem line. I LOVE Jem! If Mattel hadn’t felt so (rightfully so) threatened by the Jem line and literally stole their idea so they could create and fast-track Barbie and the Rockers to release BEFORE the Jem dolls, Jem would have been SO much bigger than she was before Mattel got ahold of her. To be fair, though, the cartoon was ICONIC and Mattel could NOT take that away, try as they might!

I agree! I was in my 20s in the 1980s, so never watched the cartoon, but discovered the Jem dolls about 20 years ago and have collected them ever since! I have always been a hard rock music fan, so these dolls are so cool and iconic of the 80s to me! I wish I could afford the newer ones

I read an article about the Cabbage Patch dolls way back in the days of the initial craze. A woman had supposedly gone out on her lunch hour and managed to snag one, which her coworkers "kidnapped". They left a ransom note demanding that she provide brownies to get the doll back. She didn't take it seriously, so they left a small container of coleslaw on her desk with a note that said something like, "This is her arm. Bring the brownies or you will never see her again!" I thought that was pretty clever, if a bit disturbing, and still remember it all these decades later.

I also had a Lil Miss Makeup/Dressup (I’ve found her under both names). You could change her face and hair with ice water. I’m pretty sure I also had a doll called Jenny. I just checked and she was made by Fisher Price and she’s called My Friend Jenny (1982). I’d forgotten about so many of these dolls. What a blast from the past. I’m kinda surprised how many of them I had-my parents must’ve spent a small fortune on me (which would’ve been difficult seeing as how we weren’t rich).❤ Edit to add: The Heart Family set! You didn’t mention that, did you? I think it was Mattel. It had a Barbie and Ken looking mom and dad and a baby boy and girl (like Kelly sized). That Heart Family dad was the only Ken-like doll I had (because who would waste their money buying Ken? 😝). He had to be all my Barbie’s boyfriend 😂 Edit again: My Buddy and Kid Sister (maybe Hasbro?) we’re also pretty memorable. Crap! I’m back again to add: Quints. I loved these. Tiny mini dolls that were quintuplet babies. They had little outfits and furniture. I wanted all of it so bad 😅 And Cupcake Dolls! (I think these were Tonka or Kenner or one of the other younger kid companies.)

SOOOO nostalgic! I was born in 1981, so this video featured so many that were part of my childhood collection! 🥰 (The vast majority of which I still have) My Little Pony was my absolute favorite- each of my ponies was best friends with one of my sister's ponies. I not only still have my original herd, but I started getting them off eBay as a teenager after the original generation ended! I had a Lady Lovely Locks- my original doll was lost, although I oddly still have her dress and one shoe. Thankfully, I found a replacement for her at a vintage shop a few years ago. I never had a Moondreamer, but I dressed as one for Halloween one year. I still have my Shimmer mommy and baby. I still have my Cabbage Patch, Dolly Surprise, Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite dolls (Patty O'Green, Shy Violet, and Tickled Pink- Rainbow herself and Starlight the horse belonged to my sister), Crystal Barbie, and Barbie and the Rockers Dana doll! (Also Angel Face Barbie who wasn't mentioned in the video.) Oh, I don't think you mentioned the Heart Family! They were friends of Barbie- a set of parents with 2 little toddlers. As a kid, I was more into them than Barbie herself- I had (still have) the car, the nursery, the preschool, the playroom, and the playground plus some extra cousin babies. I predict you will cover American Girl dolls in the next installment- although they were introduced in 1986, their peak popularity was in the 90s. They are the heart of my doll collection, so I do hope you feature them!

On my 7th birthday I got a doll in a pink dress. She was a beautiful doll. One of my favorites. But I never knew what line this doll came from. Several months ago I did a deep dive. I tried searching every description I could think of. She was in a ballet outfit and the name on the box was Brenda. Nothing ever came up and it was sort of driving me crazy. What exact doll was this! Now I know. It was a My Beautiful Doll and I was right, her name was Brenda. Thank you for this video and for solving my doll mystery

I had a lot of these even though I wasn't born until 1986. Hooray for yard salez and stores still having the toys for sale for a long time. I recently bought a tiny Rainbow Brite Tickled Pink figure from five below. It's absolutely adorable.

Glamour Gals by Kenner, Dazzel Dolls by Mattel were very fun too. Huge playlets and changeable fashions! They were about the size of GI Joe

I had the Heart Family and I also had the playhouse and the car. I love most of these dolls of the 80s, I don't think I had most of the dolls that I wanted, but I did have a few good ones.

I'm luckly enough to have some of these dolls in my collection. You never mentioned the best feature with Moon Dreamer Dolls, their hair glows in the dark and some accessories too. They are all so adorable.

Great list-so many memories! I had My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, Sea Wees, and My Friend Dolls from Fisher Price (Mandy, Jenny, & Becky). I wasn’t allowed to have Cabbage Patch Dolls or Barbies. There was also a “Herself the Elf” line of books, dolls, and cartoon. I didn’t have the dolls, but had a storybook and coloring book from that series (they were very similar to the Strawberry Shortcake dolls too).

You’re unlocking so many memories! I didn’t even remember that I had a Moon Dreamer doll or a Mattel Strawberry Shortcake knockoff until I watched this video.

I have an 80s Rainbow Brite horse that was handed down to me by my cousin. I was born in the 90s so too young to remember the show. It's quite tall with a flocked body and the mane and tail are made from wool. I've never seen one anywhere else, so I'm keeping hold of it! I think I had a later reboot of the doll as well from around the early 2000s. And from the same cousin over 50 My Little Ponies, which I will also never part with.

Huge appreciation for this video, I grew up in the 80’s, so much nostalgia. I had most of these dolls growing up and wish I still did. Well, I do still have one of my original cabbage patch dolls, but not her birth certificate lol

Very nice! I would have added Skipper, who had a lot of cool 80s outfits in the late 80s I do prefer the British Sindy face mold, but they're rather expensive in America. Good luck finding an original Jem mint in box!!! I have always loved the shiny oddness of Spectra and her friends!

I have Tom Comet from Spectra, and an in box extra outfit. I have a Bucky Buckaroo Moon Dreamers, who I found thrifting. Always Sisters Lauren (blonde oldest) was a gift from a grandma who I’ve only gotten that doll from, and I have her middle sister Meredith as well as an extra outfit. I love her so much.

Fantastic video that brought back some great memories! I was a tween and teen in the 80's, so I was a bit old for some of these, but I remember admiring them. One doll I didn't see in your video was American Girl, which came out in 1986.
