MGA should've just updated the Project Mc2 body (with *original* Rainbow High level articulation) and given them a removable tail. And if they wanted to go the fantasy route, they could've just made them fairies! Give them Victoria Secret/Winx type fairy wings(while still keeping the gorgeous hair & faces), with the same high quality fashions/accessories! That would've gained them more positive results and a more massive fanbase!

I agree it’s a problem they don’t all have a stand but the winterwave line all come with stands and you can make the others stand on their tails by placing the fin flat in front of the doll. They are a bit top heavy because of their hair but with a bit of patience and repositioning, they do stand.

I'm from the uk and I work in one of the toy shops that sells the Slumber Party dolls. I'm just a shop worker I can't confirm anything! From my own theory, mga was approached by the company and decided to sell the Slumber Party dolls they'd already made, since they'd made enough to give to a small retailer (The Entertainer has over 100 stores across the UK but is nowhere near as big as Smyths). We tend to get in a lot of older stock from mga, for example right now we have a lot of Lalaloopsy, older Na Na Nas, and we are still receiving older Mermaze lines too, so I'm presuming the Slumber Party dolls are being treated as older stock the same as those. The dolls came out immediately on sale which to me seems to back that idea up. Sad thing is that they came into my location about 3 weeks ago and I've only seen one get sold 😅 They are very pretty and the hair gorgeous as always, but I have to admit the quality control is not the best.

The Entertainer had lots of Novi Starz dolls on discount when nobody wanted them. I bought all the Supernovas for £7. Thinking about it now I should have bought more Novis but I could not buy everything. The Entertainer probably bought the discontinued Mermaze stock that did not sell in the US. The same happened with Fail Fix dolls.

Tbh I’m not surprised this doll line was so short lived they’re definitely very stylised dolls which isn’t to everyone’s taste. Imo i do like some of their designs but some just look tacky the colour change feature was a fun gimmick but it didn’t seem to work very well. I also feel like mermaid dolls aren’t really as popular as they once were

These dolls are criminally underrated, and that slumber party line showing up with only a handful of people being able to snatch one, I was heartbroken! 😭

Being in the Uk, I was able to get Kinslea and Zuna. The thing that’s hated by most are what I really love about these dolls. I really love the detail on their faces and their tails are unique… just like people. I was lucky to get most of them discounted. I personally think they are beautiful. I wish more of them had different eye colours though and not just blue and grey. Jordie and crystabella’s eyes are gorgeous 😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️… Im so glad to find a few people that appreciate them though. I don’t really mind the articulation too much as putting them on a stand would solve the display issue and the winter waves all come with stands anyway. I hope everyone who wants to collect the slumber party line is able to. I don’t know why we were able to get UK licence for these but so glad we did.

I didn't have any problems with the tails because I don't think it's their real tails but clothes like pants and skirts on humans, and the tip of the tail could also be an implant or something, even in real life humans can change so many things in their body so these mermaids could also.

I think you’re right. Novi Stars we’re obscenely expensive (compared to Monster High) when they were on the shelves, like Mermaze Mermaids. They also had limited movement (no knee joint), snow globe/gimmick legs, inset eyes, and the last wave was only found in Europe as well. I think their fins are kinda cute (I assumed they were clothing over their “actual” tail), and their clothing seem nice, but their pinpoint pupils that keep me from purchasing them. I’m hoping I won’t regret it (unlike Novi Stars…..I had so many chances to buy them on clearance).

@@ASurfgirl I could grab these, but I just don’t feel the pull towards these like I did Novi Stars/Bratzillaz/Zelfs (at the time, I was trying to be REALLY good and only buy from one doll line and not buy outside of MH, so I ignored my want for them). I have friends who collect Bratz, and I appreciate them, but they’re just not something I feel the need to collect. I have several dolls who have inset eyes, and I really like them, Mermaze’s just don’t do it for me. But many other people seem to like them too. :) I have enjoyed collecting RH and SH, but I’m about to end my collecting of them. I have other doll lines I want to go back and try and collect, and until RH/SH release more stuff I like I’ll be purchasing more G3 MH, Magic Mixling Pixlings, ILY Disney 4Ever, and some older doll lines.

Oh man how I wished I liked these...I love mermaids and I hated these dolls. The Mermaid High ones were so uninspired and the Mermaze...well, basically everything you said. The tails are just weird dresses. I don't like their outfits or faces either...I liked the glitter element and I like inset eyes but that's it. I saw them on sale for about ten quid over xmas but still...nope. I wish they would release a more heavily fantasy inspired mermaid line with actual tails! They have a whole ocean of creatures to draw inspiration from!

In Canada we have colour change ones that come with an extra tail and outfit you can swap. The tail is so weird in that the styling on her is that her tail has molded lacing going all the way up the legs part of the tail. Lacing on what is supposed to be their body? It is so weird.

favorite doll line tbh. Never been a fan of mermaid dolls but these dolls are really unique. I like all of the molding on their tails and how they made the tails "fabric" with molding on the first line and the snowglobe ones are really cool. Additionally the dress up doll had a fun tail changing mechanic (criticism: the clasp on the fin changing part is way to weak and does not grasp it nearly strongly enough) And the hair doll I was admittedly a fan of despite the lower material quality and the less detailed makeup, and it does start to amend some of the problems people had with this line, rubber tail with a joint, the fin splits to work as a doll stand. That said I am a fan of molded features on dolls and thus a very biased source. But the first dolls at leaet had pretty high attention to detail especially on the accessories and makeup and had nice hands. The winter line had a lot less attention to detail but had a lot of different elements to make up for that (extra jacket, sparkly skin, the tails just being very cool)

I didn't know the Mermaid High dolls existed, but the Mermaze girls have been in and out of online shopping carts on my phone for ages. I adore the face sculpts (very reminiscent of earlier Fairyland Minifee sculpts like Chloe and Celine), but the lack of tail articulation just always stopped me hitting "purchase". If an inexpensive little blind box bjd mermaid can have an articulated tail, surely MGA could have these dolls bend at the knee? And yes, the tails need to look like part of their body, not a 3D printed prosthetic!

I also wanted to mention that I actually think canonically the tails are designed to be clothing so to speak. Kishiko and Harmonique legit switch tails in the show and doll lines, AND there is a doll pack where the mermaid can change tails, it's like a fashion playset. I also believe this more because unlike Mermaid High where their lack of fantasy derived from printed patterns on cheap fabric that give of more comforter and curtain prints than fish tails, Mermaze's tails are DETAILED. MGA's design team went out of their way to make give the tails texture, to make them look like quartz, like snow globes, like jeans, like sweatpants, etc. It is a purposeful choice, in my opinion, though I def wasn't vibing with it myself at first glance either. I do prefer a fantasy mermaid, but they're still adorbs. edit: sorry, this thought was just living rent free in my head, and needed to be expelled. I still think the dolls deserved a few of their criticisms, mainly the articulation and the price. It had so much potential though! I'm so sad. :(

I’ve seen the fashion doll pack and you just detach one tail and swap it for the other one. I also read that all the Mermaze tails are interchangeable between dolls but I’ve not tried to switch mine and the tail shapes where they meet the upper body vary from one doll to the next so it’s a good idea to only switch the doll tails if they match and also if the tails are low cut to make it more straight forward detach upper body. I think there are some instruction videos on it.

I have some. I really like their faces and hair. Though I do understand why some people dont like the eyes. SOMETIMES they do have a vacant look.... But they are beautiful overall. And how I see it -their natural tails are under the crazy textured 'tails' like wearing trousers. So absolutely no problem with that. I do hate that the tail has no joint and they feel so immobile and cheap, they cant even sit!!! The snow globe ones feel a bit nicer at least. Also not too keen on some of the tail 'fins' (when they are not symetrical its a bit too much) But I really do like them and I am not even a proper collector, (mostly just have a small vintage Barbie and Skipper collection) but they got me haha!

Idk how the hell anyone preferred Mermaid High to Mermaze, the quality and textiles were very lacking and they just don't feel quality...? If they'd been notably cheaper I could understand but both were in the $50+ range here...! Mermaze are gorgeous, genuinely one of my two favourite doll lines of all time and I ADORE the tail designs! When literally every mermaid line has fantasy mermaid tails, it's nice for ONE of them to stand out for doing something different lol. In the show it's shown they can change their tails on a whim, so it's either clothing, magic or they can change the colour/texture like ocopi can. I also don't care about the lack of tail articulation, as without it we got awesome snowglobe tails (and probably similarly awesome shit had the line continued)! People that wanted the rubber coated tails like Orra had are crazy, that material becomes brittle and/or sticky, cracks and falls apart as it ages - you can observe this in most mermaid Barbies whose tails are similarly constructed. tl:dr can people please stop whinging about the ONE mermaid line that did something different when you have LITERALLY EVERY OTHER MERMAID LINE DOING THE THINGS YOU LIKE?!

Almost every mermaid "fashion" doll I encountered either got the barbie pink sparkle treatment so they were basically all the same girly-girl princess coded, were cheaply made with super basic designs, or were clearly trying to copy other lines and just ride coattails. Riviera having a super punk look down to the tail was awesome and out of the box with awesome representation for people who like mermaids but don't exactly identify with the ultra-sparkle aesthetic

I honestly think the final UK exclusive wave was the best of the bunch. The bow tail gives me Polly Pocket vibes and I am for it. The Mermaiz Dolls where very noticible on the shelves..feel bad for not getting my daughter when she asked..didnt get her one because ghastly and expensive..so she asked for a nana Surprise and got that instead..the second line better..the long white ,tinsel hair and snow globe feasture and the very last doll look awsome !!!!! the 90s Mermaid Dolls where the best tho..glad i grew up then! The Moon tail is ok..Sky dancer vibes!

I got my first mermaze today half price in my local Tesco (whose toy department is now run by the Entertainer. She's zuna from the slumber line and I love her! The tails are a bit weird but the concept is these mermaids are dressing like humans so their tails are dressed in equivalent to clothing. I love her insert eyes, articulation, hair, stunning face, style and she stands up on her own. I'm going back to buy more at half price (£15 instead of £30) they are camp and bonkers but as am I!

Honestly, I don't get the dislike for the Mermaze dolls, overall from doll people. The designs seem pretty nice, I love the attention to detail and they don't seem to skimp out on the hair. I do get the frustrations with the tails a bit, I find them sort of ugly sometimes but I do appreciate that they try to make them different everytime. I think my only gripe with them is their faces, I feel as if the way they do their eyes give them a bit of a dead-eyed stare, but that could be fixed if they reworked it a bit. I feel as if the dolls would've faired better if they made them mermaids who could transform into humans, so the tails could slip off, revealing some legs... the price point my jump tho. I wish the line could continue on and we could see them tweak it a bit.

The bottoms of the tails confuse me so much. Like, I understand trying to make them themed but there had to be a way to do that without making them look so damn awkward! For example, why didn't they do some night sky themed things for the slumber party line? You could do it with color and glitter and get some really gorgeous looking effects. Same with the winter themed ones, they're clearly trying to make them look like ice, which is understandable, but again, looks odd. Personally, I think they should have just gone with clear/translucent plastic to make it look icy, but not keep the ice shapes in the tails themselves. The snowglobe effect was adorable though. (It may just come down to the design choices not being my thing lol)

It’s funny that Series 1 Mermaze Mermaidz’s price was £32.99 considering I only ever see them at Home Bargains which is one of the cheapest shops in the UK 😂

I honestly feel like the surprise release of the Slumber Party line is MGA testing the waters to see if there’s still a market for them. And from the sounds of it, people are still liking them enough to run out and buy them! Sincerely hoping for a US release.

If the tail was bendable, i would love them but they were also way too expensive. And Mermaid High seems a lot nicer. I want the green hair one

I also don't like that their tales are not "fishy" but when rmzhey went on clearance in my country, I decided to buy Riviera so I would have at least one sample. She's fine but her clothes are like armor, it almost doesnt fit her, there are too much elements. But I love their faces, I think MGA could still keep working with the original idea, it just needs a reboot.

OMG I'm so glad that you're covering the Mermaze Mermaidz! I own them all + the Salon playset, and just recently bought Monroe from the Slumber Party line! I've been a mega fan since the leaks and am sad that they were so short lived! The tails were a huge issue, but their faces and long glorious hair kept me hooked! They are way better when they've been head swapped! I personally put my dolls on Made to Move bodies of different sizes, as well as Integrity Toys bodies (making them so fun to dress up and play with)! I've decided to keep both versions of Kishiko on their original mermaid bodies though (to celebrate them as a brand). They are my most spoiled dolls, and I'm truly grateful to own them! 💘😍💘
