Hey Michi, the Ox design is very beautiful. That is cool how they hand draw and sprinkle the brush. That is cool how they are doing the animals. I was born in '83 so I'm not a tiger. LOL. $125 for one brush is pricey but it is beautiful and handmade. Your look is very pretty and glowy. :) I want to try Sonia G brushes for sure too. FW and have a great weekend.

1983 is year of the pig/boar. The brush for that year is really cute too! I hope you will get to try a Sonia G. brush in the future! I was thinking if you would get one through one of the monthly boxes, but since her brushes are exclusively sold on Beautylish, that may be tough. Hi Michi I won't like you when I got notification from Beautylish about this brush my face felt down bot for the price and for the beautiful design 😍. I think it worth getting it if you are a passionate collectionar and have more Japanese brushes. I need to expand my area on that matter before and who knows maybe next year I will get this brush too. I bet is so soft .. mmm .. I always dry my brushes on a special holder hanging them with their bristles downwards to prevent water leaking into the barrel because I know the water can get in there and melt the glue . Enjoy this gorgeous goodie ! 👍

The chikuhodo makie UM is almost identical even the specs are almost the same, it’s matte tho like the first year of the pig one.

I was looking at the UM brush and thought they were similar too. The UM is made up of ash squirrel hair.

I got mine the other day and I'm curious: Do you notice the black lacquered space around the design to be somewhat sparkly? It doesn't really show up in photos but I definitely notice it in person.

Yes I see what you mean! I checked the bottom of the brush to see if there is any shimmer there and there is. I wonder if metal powders are mixed in with the lacquer itself so you have these little sparkles in the handle. I also think some of the metal powders get onto other areas of the brush when they fill in the design, but I'm not sure how much of that is supposed to remain in the surrounding area. Good observation!

I use Dr. Bronner's Baby Unscented Castile Soap. A little bit goes a long way or you can use the Beauty Blender soaps that lets you swirl the brush on top of it. :)

Michi! What do you use to clean the brush? I'm not sure what kind of soap to use. I know you're not supposed to clean it often. Also, what do you use to clean it in between uses? Thanks!

I use Dr. Bronner's baby unscented pure castile soap. I deep clean with soap and water once a month and I try once a week to wipe them off a microfiber towel using a spray to wipe to help. I spray onto the towel and then swipe the brush on it. For paddle-shaped brushes, a side swiping motion is recommended. I would embrace a move towards fude that functions just as well and is made up of synthetic fibers that mimic hairs. 🙏🏻
