GOOD MORNING! Quite a bit of water today! Roger in Pierre South Dakota

Those beavers hit a mud to stick ratio that strikes the perfect balance between "good at holding back water" and "hard to clear".

Congratulations on 20k, you are getting to your goal. It seems that those beavers work quick. They managed a pretty good dam in a short time. Your wind sock seams to be working pretty good. Thanks for taking the time to make a wind cover for the mike it helped with wind noise.

Delighted to see that the trusty potato rake is not only good for taking apart the tangled branches, grass and mud of the dams but a good tool hauling you up the steep and unstable slope of the bank! Just curious why the dams are being removed? Is the farm land being flooded, preventing fish movement upstream to spawn or road ways being flooded? I would love to know more background on why you choose to remove certain dams.

I am new to the channel and perhaps this has already been covered but I never saw it if was addressed.

Dams making erosion in channels. So afterwards channels will be not able to absorb all the water in the rainy season. Also When beavers making high dams then comming problems for the tractors to harvest the fields.

I cannot understand how one could have access to an excavator and end up doing such a bad job at clearing that dam. I recall this one video of MrAJworks where he would pull out all the sticks, layer those on the bank next to the stream and cover it with the mud from the dam (and driving over it a few times to compact it) so that it would decompose over time and not be in the stream's bed anymore to be usable as anchor for the beaver's follow up dam.

Don't you know that beavers recreate wetlands & rehydrate the water table. You shouldn't be removing the natural cycle of life. Check out what beaver are doing to bring back a diversity of life to the land. People all over the north America are allowing beaver to build natural a Water systems. Elaine

In order to stop the beaver's you must find and destroy the lodge. Forcing them to relocate elsewhere.
@michaelandrecht75082 жыл бұрын
Install a low head turbine . Let the beavers do the work. Enjoy free electricity. Seriously is it legal to do that where you are? Here the government will not let you destroy a beaver dam, and if you try to get a permit to build one they laugh at you . If your field, property, or house is damaged your problem. That is how they protect wildlife here in the USA. ,

You've done a number of these. Some a number of times, often after just a few weeks. You must really like doing the same thing over and over. Maybe it is just to make money redoing the YT videos. At some point, don't you get tired? Myself, I would be compelled to figure out a better, more permanent way to clear these obstructions. Maybe ELECTRIFY THE WATER, so the little critters don't like it and just go away? I might be thinking about building somekind of tripod out of 2 inch diameter steel pipe, maybe with a little foot on the two front legs (so they don't sink into the mud, and with some kind of hook on it to dig into the upstream side of the dam. Maybe some kind of rope hanging down from the apex that you could hang onto, to somehow multiply your leverage to yank the dam apart more easily! DO SOMETHING TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN WIMPERING THAT THEY JUST REBUILT IT??? Good Luck. I'd really rather see you do something CREATIVE!!!
@Kenislovas2 жыл бұрын
Hello Junk Mail:) I like to do it. For me it's always like a journey. New places, different places. Sometimes I am coming back to the same dam, but each time the dam is different. I am excited to do it, maybe thats why I am not tired. Also I like to do kind of exercises all we know it's good to health, fresh air, nature around. To open the dam I think it's most effective way how I am doing. With electricity at first You will get penalty from government, it's illegal. And 2nd, You will kill all alive animals in pond or short channel. If I would get paid and payer would like to see result, of course I would use some traps, ask hunters to assist me to regulate population or use some pipes in dam, which won't stop the water. But now I am free to go how I want to. P.S. I am open to interesting ideas how to deal with dams too.
