Well, day 4 was a wet one!! They can't all be nice days but I kind of like the rain...
I had an interesting visit from a hawk. He followed me in my truck the whole way out of the bush, so I got out and caught some pictures.
Until the next one. Stay dry.

Where I grew up, we would've called that rain a frog strangler, or a gully washer, or just said that it was plain old pissing down rain! Thanks for this one. It was both great fun as well as incredibly relaxing!

Hey, lightwavz, 👋 It didn't let up at all. Lol 🌧 🌦 ⛈️ I kind of like the rain, definitely not every day, though. Having the right gear helps. Thanks, I have always collected rocks and finally got some rock polishers. 🪨 There were no pudding stones, but definitely some cool ones. I might go for a drive one day just to go get some of those. I did get a chunk of epidote, though! 👍🤓

@@geneplumley4136epidote is a good one! My father worked in a geology lab and took me rock-hounding through my childhood. I wish I had all those finds from way back when, but I might need a museum to put them all in. 😂

@@lightwavzThat's really neat. I still have quite a few rocks from my childhood. Now I can do something with them. I find myself picking them up everywhere. Lol.

Thanks, Dee. I got into rock polising a while back. I have 2 rotary tumblers going and 2 vibratory ones. 🪨 🪨 🪨 It's funny how often the beavers use rocks in their dams.

Breakfast with Gene today! Same miserable weather here for days on my newly Magic Sanded 40x30ft. paver side patio and it wasn’t in the forecast until yesterday. Strong resolve in being out there and good job. I noticed some little pieces of granite stones in that water, I know it’s a common find up north. Hope you have a bailout bucket in the canoe! 🤪👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Good morning, Lina. 🥚 🍳 🥓 🍞 🌧 oh no. I hope it didn't wash away all the magic sand. That is a big area to cover. Thank you, I don't mind the rainy days. It helps to have the right gear 💪. Yes, we have lots of granite up here. I also found a lot of quarts and even a chunk of epidote. I took at least half of a 5 gallon pail from here over a couple of weeks. No bail-out bucket, haha. I just had to tip it over, 🛶 🌊. The 🌞 came out for the next one....

@@geneplumley4136, thank you…I do hope I don’t have to redo all that work, especially with the pressure washer turning me into a mud statue! 🤮 I do have some huge granite pieces given to me by a relative, in my flower garden. 🥰

Hi Gene, You need a nice hot bath after being out in the rain all day. Oh and if you are looking out for rocks, keep your eyes peeled for some ***GOLD***. (You have gold in Canada don't you? All those crazy gold rushes we learn about, men starving in the wilderness and eating their shoes...that type of thing. Plus there's a whole genre of YT videos about gold prospecting. Something to keep in mind should the beavers go on strike, lol.)

Sounds good!!, 🛁 🛀 I have been looking, 👀. We have lots of quarts around here too, so hopefully, I find some one day. I watched some of those prospecting videos a while back. I like the ones where they pull it out of streams. Wetsuit, goggles, and just keep moving rocks and looking. Some of them do pretty well.

Are these specifically drainage ditches rather than streams?
@geneplumley4136
@geneplumley4136 9 ай бұрын
Hi George. 👋 Great question. Some of these places are completely man made. Dug with equipment and all. This system is a natural water way. But it is deemed a municipal drain. Meaning it's critical for it to stay open and moving. Many properties and hiways cross it/drain into it, and if the levels rise, bad stuff happens. It also prevents private landowners from blocking access to the drain. Maybe they decide they like high water and beavers. But upstream, it's flooding someone's cash crop, or flooding roads & homes.

@@geneplumley4136 thanks for the detailed reply! I agree that it's critical to keep these drains open. It would be awesome to see some of these municipal drains changed back to wetlands, but we need to undo a lot of historic engineering first!

Well, I didn't get paid to go do this because it was fun.....🙄 A farmer literally had to call our township and go in there to file a complaint. That's what gets me sent there. I hope to get a drone one day to better show this. Just to be clear, you're wrong.....The water was absolutely flooding farm fields. 🚜 Yes, fields. As in more than just one filed/property. A beaver dam can affect properties miles upstream of the drain. One foot of water rising here can travel inland for miles. If you have any actual questions, let me know.
