Day 3!
This was just a small one but held quite a bit of water up stream.
Check out the time laps version at 51:43
You can really see the muddy bank slide down as the water recedes.
I also caught an eastern newt, 🦎

Hi Gene, That was a frustrating dam, too much mud, not enough water, and a tree stump thrown into just to make your life difficult. No wonder you didn't fancy tackling the next one. Loved the newt, you know sometimes they squeak when you pick them up? Years ago I caught one to show my children when we were out messing around in a pond. It was so unexpected I promptly dropped it so it does kind of work as a protection.

Hey, Excession. Yes, it was a difficult one. I did not know they made noise. I bet it was unexpected. I used to catch them all the time as a kid. I had about 20 of them at one point. 🦎

The next day the beavers will have built it back . Beavers are good for the environment as they create marsh land and underground wells.
@dzzope

Absolutely.. Natural habitat generators / flood prevention / ground water replenishing / drought fighting "pests" I find it insane that there are places here that used to have beavers in them and now people have built houses.. Same people were surprised that they got properly flooded with the first 100 year storm since they were built. (They occour much more than once in a 100 yrs for any that don't know) Le sigh.
@geneplumley4136
@geneplumley4136 9 ай бұрын
Trust me, the beavers that built this dam will not be rebuilding it. I agree with everything else, though. 👍 This waterway is deemed a municipal drain and has to be kept open to prevent flooding. They are welcome to take residence anywhere else alongside it, just not in it. Or I get commissioned by the town to come do what I do. Let me know if you have any questions?
@geneplumley4136
@geneplumley4136 9 ай бұрын
True. But now that there are houses, roads and farms here. There are also engineered drain systems to go with them. When they get clogged, bad things happen. Then I get commissioned to go do what I do. Do you have any questions?

You wouldn't kill the beaver right. That would put you out of a job.

@@geneplumley4136 They would rebuild it if they weren't prevented is what I meant. I mean they're beavers, what else can they do?

Hi Nette, 👋 It was! I didn't get as far as I would have liked, but the water is able to drain anyway. This job has 6 beaver dams spread over 1.5 km's of river. It's about a 35-minute drive here as well. Sometimes, I have to canoe 10-15 km's depending on the locations. They are quite often 4 wheeler access only as well. It's the best job ever, 😁 Thanks for watching. 🦫

Hi Kevin. This is actually my job. These may not look like it, but they are drains that need to be kept open. When the water levels rise in these particular areas, bad things happen. Farms, roads, bridges, peoples homes, etc. I get commissioned by the town to do this.

Hi Vorta. I see your point, but these drains have to be kept open. There is always running water there. This way, the fish can actually get back to the main body of water they are from. Technically, the dam was trapping them there.
