This is one of the only videos that goes into solid detail about the limit switches and how they operate. Many thanks for posting such an informative video!

Brilliant video Tim, this is the best video description of the internal workings of the garage door range limiter. Handy people now have a great guide for a very DIY fix.

Very helpful. The revised part at the end was a big help!

I'm glad I found this video, after my center coupler broke and was replaced my unit would only turn a couple revolutions and then stop, the diagnostic light was blinking 5 lights telling me I had a problem with the rpm sensor, but I couldn't find anything wrong with it so looking for answers online a lot people were suggesting the logic board. After watching this video however I found out that when my coupler broke the center part of my limit switch had somehow jumped its contact. All I had to do was take it out, re-seat it and fine tune the adjustments and we are back in business. So thanks a lot for this video!

Me too Tom Tom. Couldn’t sleep all night. Mine was that screw in the middle that doesn’t adjust with the upper and lower up/ down screws.

Well presented and explained including the end remarks. No wasted time or explanation here, good stuff. I have a different type, but suspected what you described. My problem is the door got jammed and somehow broke the plastic thing that travels between the upper & lower contacts!

Thanks for showing how this Mecanism works. I enjoyed watching.

Same as others commenting - Thanks you helped me fix my issue with the stops. Mine was the same as yours, it is old and the stops had migrated over many adjustments o where there was no travel left.

Thanks! I cringe when I watch it - not the best production value - lol. But if the video helps folks, and it apparently has, then mission accomplished!

This was a great help. I replaced the gear drive and the switch.

Thanks, for posting this video. I replaced the gears and shaft that drive the belt, but could not get the opener to function correctly. It seemed to me that something was wrong with the limit switches. After viewing this video I was able to see what was wrong with the limit switches and correct their position. BTW I was doing this when it was in the 20's outside. Thanks again.

Thanks! Glad it helped you! My gears probably need to be replaced soon too - good to know that it's possible. And extra points to you for working with cold hands.

Another (easier) way to center the limit switch is to simply disconnect it from the motor by removing the bottom nut on the main spindle (one clip removes it). Then move the limits out of the way, and manually turn the center screw to get the wiper where you want it. Then you can reconnect it and set the limits properly.

Also, those copper contact surfaces can become oxidized or dirty resulting in inconsistent limit travel of the door, especially noticeable when closing. IOW, sometimes the door will do a relatively hard close. Clean the surfaces with contact cleaner on a swab.

I have a question, should these upper and lower limits be about a quarter way in on either side to optimally allow for adjustments both ways?

My limiters are making contact, but the motor does not stop. All wires look connected and in good shape. Do you think the logic board is to blame?

How do I reverse the motor. I was adjusting the limits and not it seems the motor is stuck trying to go down but it just clicks and hums. Is there a trick to getting the motor to move the opposite direction
@beavesf162 жыл бұрын
Do you have the case off so you can see if the sliding switch is making contact with one of the limiters? Sounds like a limiter is not aligned and/or not making contact with the sliding switch (when it does, it stops the motor and reverses polarity for the next open/close button press). The clicking sound is not good. You will eventually wear down nylon motor gears - each click is a gear "jumping" the worm gear (I think).

Really appreciate this video. One of the little sensors had broken off in mine, but I didn’t even know how to get inside to know this. This video showed me how the limit sensors worked AND how to get inside. Thanks very much!
