I agree with what many have already said. This is perhaps the best real world car review I've ever seen for an audience thinking of buying a car. Thanks for the specifics such as RPM at 60mph, clutch action and shifter feel, towing ability, kayak loading, and impact on fuel economy, etc. For those of us who cannot find a manual transmission vehicle in inventory for a test drive, this is especially useful. Thanks.

That has got to be the best car review I've ever seen. How everyone else seems to miss the boat, I have no idea, but this is fantastic. The engine RPMs at different speeds was an excellent touch, the camera angle you used was excellent for getting a feel for how the card drives, and you really focused on the real work aspects of the car. You answered every question I had about the car and more. Thanks a lot man.

always spec the manual- right decision every time. We drove this car today with the CVT and my wife thought she was going to stall it- of course she forgot about the lack of the 3rd pedal. (they are different systems) 2. Steering feel, responsiveness, vibrations (I love the 2010 steering but get surface vibration at highway speeds, BFG A/T K02) I drove a 2018 and it felt very numb, disconnected. 3. I further noticed the rpm "hangs" when i do a moderate acceleration, even after I disengage the clutch for 2-3 seconds. But if I were to accelerate briskly, then it does lower: I got used to it. The benefit of the rev hang, is that I don't need to press the throttle so the rpm matches the next selected gear. I just don't prefer having this automatic (uncontrolled) programming for something as key as engine speed.

Thank you for making this video. I am considering a '17 2.5i base (w/ wheel pkg) and I believe I am making a good choice. The premium would be nice but I'm not convinced the "extras" are worth the extra cost. As much as I would love to get the three pedals, this will be the wife's car, and a CVT will be the transmission (happy wife/happy life). I appreciate your candidness and wish you the best with your new forester. Question - what tires do you use? With the varied weather conditions, do you use an all-season tire or do you have separate summer/winter tires?
@bebe09288 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the positive comments. CVT would be a great choice for your family. The tires are standard all seasons Yokohama Geolandar, they are decent tires, works well in rain, snow and mild off roads. I haven't push the car hard enough in bad conditions to find issues in these tires.

FB20 is not bad either it will be just a to slower. Still sounds great and is super efficient tho i have it in XV(EUDM Crosstrek) and its a bit lighter. But Forester is MUCH bigger cargo and headroom wise so go for it instead. It barely any heavier and still is as efficient

@@Kacpa2 Yeah, I now have a 16 XT. Very nice car. I was looking at the XV, but it has somewhat less usable cargo space than my old Forester had, besides having about the same footprint. European forester only had 6speed with FB20. Almost no hit on fuel efficiency, but a bit more power in comparison to 2.0L. blacl on green display looks a bit cheap my XV has white on black and it has much better contrast and looks more upscale i dont know why they didnt offer that white on black display by default.

Nice Review. Glad that there is at least one review on a forester with manual transmission. Looking to getting a 2016 one with manual and as you said the ones available are very hard to find. Wished the 2.5i premium had the roof spoiler at the rear like the limited model. How do you find the acceleration ? I know that depends on your style of driving - but just curious if you have ever felt that the torque was not enough. Thanks in advance.
@bebe09288 жыл бұрын
you probably will need to order one if you really want one with the right color and options. The rear spoiler is an option that you can add on to any trim, Premium included. As for the acceleration, it's very torquey, 172HP is adequate for a good pull, especially rev over 3000 rpm. Good luck to your hunt for one.

Hello and thanks for the great review. I just purchased a 2014 forester w/ manual transmission and find that the clutch distance is really long. In the video you mentioned you installed a 1/2 inch clutch stopper. Any input as to how you installed it? Did you buy the stopper (limiter) on-line? Thanks.
@mikeyWRX8 жыл бұрын
Hi there.... In regards to the clutch travel...Im sure the geometry is different than the Subaru BRZ which I own, but see if there is what I call the "helper" spring attached to your clutch fork. I removed this from my brz and it does stiffen the clutch slightly but it feels worlds better. The "helper" springs, to me, feel like they disconnect the feeling we all like in manual transmission cars. Just an option!

Good review, I have 2 questions plz. First, does it come with a cruise control? Second, what is the cut-off RPM?
@bebe09287 жыл бұрын
1. Yes, cruise control is standard on all trim level. 2. Reline is 6800RPM, I've never gone beyond that, so if there is a "RPM cutoff" I would think it's going to be somewhere pass 6800rpm.

Awesome review! Any buyers remorse at this time? Are you looking at any other cars? Hows the reliability been on both your foresters?
@bebe09286 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments, so far both Forester are reliable and issue free. The manual is great for weekend fun and mountain roads and towing, but not for daily commute driving. The CVT has improved interior and backup cameras which i really appreciate for daily driving in the city. Not really any regrets for buying either one, I won't have bought 2 Foresters if i have any remores, lol.

I picked up my 2018 2.5i manual transmission a week ago. I like the car a lot, but I also noticed that the clutch has a lot of travel. Can you please share a bit more info on the clutch stopper you installed?

Hi, I bought the stopper online, but I forgot the website. And the stopper is actually for BRZ, so i did have to do some filing to make it fit. I don't have an instruction on how to do it, but if you go to BRZ or Forester forums you can find some examples of people doing it, good luck to you! :)

I found two clutch stopper online. One from ixizConcept, and the other from WORKS. They are both the same price ($24) but the shipping cost is a lot different. ixiz one looked better (aluminum piece) with cheaper shipping. So I ordered it. But it did not work unless I adjust the starter interlock switch. I didn't feel like getting my hands up to that area which is really hard to reach. Changing the travel of interlock starter switch will make it work as well as you can start the car without engaging the clutch (enabling you to install remote starter). But I did not want that for a safety reason. So I decided to buy the other one from WORKS. With the shipping, it was more than $40, but it works without messing with the interlock switch. If you are interested, I can send you both links and also explain things. I could not find much information about "interlock switch" on Forester and I spent pretty big chunk of time finding it.

Hi, mine is a rubber texture "nipple" thin that would just screwed on the original clutch back stop to extend the back stop out 1/2 inch. Wasn't that complicated. I finally found the link: store.worksmotorsports.com/Scion_FR_S_Subaru_BRZ_clutch_pedal_stop_p/169.211.htm

Hi one last question: Were you still able to depress the clutch enough to start the car in neutral? Thanks.

Hey how is the oil consumption on this? I have read some issues with the FB25 using oil especially with the 6MT. Some owners claimed as much as 1QT for every 1000 miles which is crazy. Have you noticed any oil loss? Do you top off at all?
@bebe09287 жыл бұрын
My oil consumption was about 2000 miles to low. Not bad but not good, but it's been fixed for under the oil consumption class action. Also came with free extended warranty, everything is good now.

I'm actually considering trading in my Mercedes for one of these simply because of the manual transmission and taller seat height.
