Thank you to Abraham for sharing his story and to the whole crew at the Children's Hospital Colorado. Learn more about their mission at their website here bit.ly/GamingAndChildLife or by connecting with them on instagram / childrenscolo
If you'd like to share the joy of gaming & brighten the lives of children in need, support Child's Play www.childsplaycharity.org/ & / cpcharity
Abraham's love of games started by sneaking down to play Wolfenstein 3D and thanks to the encouragement of his mother, he was able to follow his passions. And when his mother became sick, he was able to find a lot of comfort in games which led to thinking: "could games be helpful & theraputic to others too?" Fast forward to the future, where now he works at Children's Hospital Colorado as a Gaming Technology Specialist.

2:04 - The remarkable thing is. He could have been watching an Ant Farm all night. His mother would still be sitting next to him watching it with him, have exactly the same reaction and this video would be "Because Entomology Matters" instead :) A mom taking the interests of her son and him as a person seriously. It is heartwarming.

Growing up in a broken home with a degenerate step dad, gaming was my escape. Going to the horse or dog track, he'd give me a pocket full of quarters & send me off to the mini arcade they had. I still credit him for being both the only person I've ever truly *hated* and for sparking my love of video games...

Honestly, I would probably love this kind of job despite not being socially adept. I get in a zone teaching people about my hobbies which include MTG, tabletop TPGs (currently only D&D 3.5 and 5e and Pathfinder 1e), and storytelling. These worlds are fantastical and get your mind off the struggles of reality and have helped me deal with my own issues. For example, I started realizing how far my insecurities were and I have been working on improving them ever since.

My mom recently surprised me, she usually don't really pay my games any mind and only in my late 20's has she begun to understand how much they have really helped me. All of a sudden she had overheard a conversation I had with a man at Dragon bridge (Skyrim) and made a joke that his daughter needed Me Too, because of the story the man told. I was dumbfounded that she had not only glanced over, but actually listened.
