On a side note how long do you think it'll take for him to figure it out? In 20 years is the entire planet going to be enveloped in a giant green cloud with him still confused as to why everyone's dead. also the gas clearly isn't dangerous to planet life, the implication being because they can't smell, so couldn't we potentially try removing people's abilities to smell. Even if the gas could still kill you it'd be less effective as the odor itself wouldn't be able to phase you now. I'm also curious as to the biological process happening internally for this guy to be able to produce this chemical in the first place. Also if the pills make you deadly weapon but greenery and all plant life are unaffected then couldn't as a last ditch effort we have everyone consume the pills to make themselves immune then try and figure out a way to reverse the effects. It's been shown to destroy technology yes but only when in a panicked state making the chemical more potent and deadly. I'm just saying there are so many things they could've tried to combat this.

We haven't seen the extent of the chemicals capabilities so it's not out of the question yet to assume we could contain it by trapping him under water. Yes he would die but the alternative is everyone else on the planet dieing. Suppose we could use a drone to fly him over a breathing tank and a message explaining everything and that the orders come from his boss. There's so many ways around this problem the military in this movie never even tried. Their best idea was to try and freeze him so the molecular movement of the chemical he emits would be slowed down. We could blow out all the bridge then try and block out the sun in that area and wait for him to freeze to death.

The whole thing is a dark comedy. It’s legit kinda funny how dark it is despite its premise. It’s also working on the logic most people who stink have. They smell terrible but don’t notice their own smell and even if people react violently to it always somehow act incredibly ignorant and do nothing to fix the smell

the solution is simple. put a generator fed tv and camera, in front of his path, so that he will come across it with his bosses from the other part of the company able to tell him to change plans and he is getting put in quarentine to treat the infection from the experimental pills. bah. that would work. cant do that. i do love the military scenes so its not all bad, really great animation, its just a shame we didnt get that quality of animation put to a full war film with such brilliant moving tanks and jets and naval craft.

This is one of the god tier animated anime, back then artists care alot about details and small details, it may came from 1995 but it looks like it came from somewhere from 2020-2021, the details of the animation back there was so good and i respect the old artists for that unlike nowadays where alot of artists doesnt care about budget and small detail and that however gave us trash and trash and trash, i wish there is some more anime that is WELL animated like this one the budget and details are CRAZY. The memories version of it is CRAZY go check it out. the memories version was made YEARS ago but the it so amazing, go check it out

Everyone commenting how could he not know forget denial is a hell of a drug, the knowledge that he's the culprit of the deathly gas would mean that HE'S partly responsible (the others being the developers and Chief leaving it out in his office) for the death of all his colleagues, and that for all he knows he'll NEVER be allowed anywhere near any other human/animal life EVER AGAIN and that's assuming he'd not be in some bunker getting prodded by remote machines (if they ever could make them resistant). The other part is in Japan work culture is EXTREMELY committed. They literally have a term, Karoshi, or "overwork death" from how systemic the phenomenon is from expecting employees to put in obscene amounts of overtime and to make the company their whole lives, to the point people regularly find dead bodies on and near public transit from workers who killed themselves overworking. Talking to the COMPANY BOSS means he's got a MISSION and DECADES of conditioning that his own needs are barely even considered vis a vis the company he works for kicks in and screams at him to comply. So he has a psychological push factor (denial) and a pull factor (his conditioning kicking in to fulfill a company order). It's still a stretch mind you but for me it's within the realm of believability there's a man out there who'd behave in this scenario like Nabuo Tanaka. The military-industrial complex developing technologies they understand intellectually but lack the wisdom to know what they're going to have to deal with, a capitalistic society that has captured the state and society so strongly it created a psychosis just as strong in one of it's employees that his drive to work for them supersedes any humanitarian instinct. Okamura is directly taking shots at his society IRL for how it treats its working class and the nature that sustains them all as endlessly disposable compared to the company profits.

Good points. But it all falls flat with how monumentally stupid everyone is. I'll pick just one though. This Nobuo guy not only went to work sick, he tried every cold pill in the office. Which is hazardous on it's own. And for some reason had in his head, that experimental pills = stronger medicine that will work. Rather than = NOT SAFE FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION It's like horror movies. Make the characters stupid enough, I'll disconnect with the horror and get annoyed by the characters instead.

The point of this episode is to be funny. The ineptitude of the military and the the MC being so damn oblivious makes this comedy gold. Everyone is saying that, and i'll say it too : All of this movie is full of mistakes. First, the governement's first idea is to kill the guy right away. They didn't even think about telling him about what is going on precisely and the danger he represent. Everyone says yhe guy is pretty dumb. But imagine being in his place : you're awaking, realise eveyone is dead and there is a green fog killing people. In his head, he sure think there is a problem. But he has no idea that it's caused by his own body due to the bio weapon he took, believing it's the anti-fever drugs his friends told about. That's also the fault of the boss of the guy. He didn't aware anyone in his lab about the dangerousity of the bio weapon he have in his office (even it's a secret weapon, warn your coworkers or at least don't put it on your desk without a sign "cautious, don't use that"). The biggest problem is about the lack of communication. Nobody think correctly and act (blindly for some other people).
