Beckett Oil Burner Motor Replacement and Upgrade

You can actually buy the OEM couplers for each beckett model. I've always preferred that then the cut down kits. I only use those kits on old oil burners I can't get the parts for.

Thanks for the video ! So can the motor be replaced without pulling whole unit ? If not, will i be able to reuse the gasket ?

@ralphbailey736 In my situation, I had to pull my burner assembly, and it didn't damage the gasket between the burner and fire box.

Does your unit kick on and off a lot? I find mine kicks on for 30s-1min at a time but it doesnt run for a long time before it pushes the hot air. I know i need to replace the motor (was told there is a dead spot) its an oil furnace with forced hot air.

If it is actually burning during the time the furnace is on, it could be a dirty or defective electric eye located under the coil pack.

​@kstofkos ill look into it. I just had a full cleaning done a month ago. And when i take the back of a screw driver to the motor, you can hear it shift and then it will start. Or i have to open the top and spin the fan, and itll start working again.

To assure compatibility. I would get the part number off of your current motor and cross-reference that with a compatible model. That is, of course, if your current motor is no longer available. If you have your motor part number, you could contact a parts supplier and they may provide you with the correct part and or part number that will fit.

My motor sounds like it has rocks in it... almost a staticky type of sound -- been doing this for years, still working, but looking to replace. I can find two identifying numbers for my Beckett motor. Documentation says TP-101. Sticker says MP 1192. It is on a Thermopride from the 90s. Can you help identify motor and coupler? All help is appreciated.

@@kstofkos That's OK. Think I found it. Now I'm trying to figure out my plan of attack. Go for motor replacement in the dead of winter while it is still working? Order one I can return (just in case)... ride it out until Spring, then do it? Have a pro come in between to do a 'standard' maintenance and see what they say. Hmm..

What do I do before I replace the Beckett oil burner. Just turn off the burner? Would I have empty anything out?

The oil has to be turned off at the oil tank and the power for the entire system has to be turned off.

Wouldn't hurt to have absorbent material and a covered container to place the material in after cleaning up the little bit of oil that will leak after the the oil line is disconnected. Thats how I do it, but I am not a professional.

My boiler quit. I have the older model motor on the Beckett with the pop out trip switch, push the button and the motor sounds seized. Ordered a new one and when I went to install found there was a mouse crushed in the fan. Removed the dead mouse and everything's fine, gonna return these new parts. Always check for mice in your fan, kids.

Great video I learned something new! I have a question with the coupling do u have suppose to have a circle with a flat spot on both sides on the coupling or just one side?

Each side of the ( coupler ) cylinder has a flat spot to fit the shaft.

Can you oil these motors if they become noisy? I don't see any oil cups on my motor i replaced 2 yrs. ago??? Nice video...........Right ...... bad things happen on Cold Winter Days!!!!

If they are getting noisy, it is headed for a total bearing failure. Generally something is damaged in the bearing. Thank you!

Question..... can you use another motor from Beckett to another Beckett. I think someone is gonna fk up

That isn't a yes or no answer without more details. The mount and shaft has to be the same as well as matching the RPM

@@kstofkos the motor is locked up per tech, he says he'd replace all the front stuff, but I have anutha motor exactly the same. Every time it's turned on it trips off n the motor has been tapped n tapped but it's locked up. The homeowner wants to put new motor on n see if it runs..should he.? U said listen to my tech but he's a tightazz.

@@kstofkos if the used .motor is same hp n rpm n numbers, can you put that on the boiler atleast to ck if it still trips off

@Chuck Aaron all components can be tested prior to installation. Including additional troubleshooting to determine if there is electrical or mechanical issues within the furnace. Seeing if the breaker trips is never a way to see if a component is defective.

@@kstofkos sorry, what I meant was the tech said the motor was bad n I have another 1, testing isn't an issue, the used motor works, sounds good and clean squirrel cage, I just wondered if it's ok to put on. Not messing with anything else, just swapping that .motor same hp and rpm etc. Numbers are same n came off another Beckett. Thanks for replying, I'll let him figure out what he's going to do. Homeowner that is. He just wants it fixed right n I told friend, the tech, to give him price to do it right. Tenants bein a cheap azz, free motor, n thinks it's fine to swap. Oh well
