You can't beat the older designs like the HV transformer. The designers want to make them smaller but with a boiler who cares what size it is so long as it is simple, robust and over-sized so it isn't stressed.

I always wanted to take that reset button off of that control because some customers like hitting that button over and over. I fell like for safety purposes it should only be designed for technicians to reset control. I have had boilers and furnaces flooded with oil so bad I had to call the Fire Department to stand by while I turned it on. One time I had one that was so bad fire came out the top of the chimney.

Nice to see the smoke from it. Good lesson for others. Lucky the boiler temp was cold so u can let it run. Great video. Dont change a thing.

My grandad taught me how to work on all these oil heaters , i remember being 8 or so going job to job . He was already retired he did all his work free for the elderly and some of the very old back woods churches here in ky. He used to control all of brown wilsons entire factorys hvac and humidity control back when they had a tobacco factory here in ky. If I only knew half of what he forgot , I would be set. After he died I was cleaning out the barns out I must have found 100 burners 2 of which were 3 phase with a 5 hp cage fan for the he burner . I have never see a burner that big not to mention the 10 tips in a star pattern on the hot end . It must have sounded like a jet engine.

Serviced an old Mueller Climatrol oil furnace one night for a customer. I asked how many times he pushed the reset button. He says twice. His wife is standing behind him shaking her head, NO. She said it was more like 20 times. There was standing oil in the firebox. Got it cleaned out. He got to watch when we started the furnace, after we replaced the ignition transformer. Lots of smoke and noise. I never had to go back there, again. Some people would rather lie than be upfront with me.

"At least twice", "so that means 3 or 4 times? omg Steve, I'm an easy target at this hour, but man, that was f'ing funny! Especially seeing as how it was set by "is he a wanna be or is he a real plumber?" No wonder I'm still grinning as I write this. I have a question what are those adjustment marks for underneath the oil line? Is that how you adjust the draft?
@erikj.20665 жыл бұрын
That’s the air band adjustment. You use it to adjust the amount of air the burner is drawing in, and mixing with the fuel. Draft is how much negative pressure you have from the chimney to draw the combustion products out. It’s adjusted by moving a counterweight on the barometric damper.

The average person doesn't know that pushing the button squirts oil into the chamber. You can't think people are stupid for pushing the button a half dozen times. When your car doesn't start, do you give it one shot, and then say forget it? No. You try it a bunch of times. As I said, they don't know they are shooting oil into the chamber.

Can’t stand foolish homeowners looking over my shoulder asking stupid questions as if they are going to somehow learn something by watching you. And then when they see things they don’t understand they think it must be wrong like they are now some kind of engineer or something and then after the fact calling the office and saying your tech said this and that and twisting your words or even lying because they don’t want to pay or think that it’s to expensive. It’s expensive because it should be because you are paying for a quality service with a quality company with a knowledgeable technician that just fixed your equipment. The reality is you are just there to help and do your job and fix things and not want to have to deal with all the b.s. and customer service crap. That’s why I prefer commercial you don’t have JoeHomeowner telling you how to do your job and giving you crap.
@jasonyeager91025 жыл бұрын
Preach!!! Great point. I had a homeowner the other day who literally pulled up a chair behind me and asked why their furnace kept cycling on high limit. I told her I would run some tests and find out. Not even ten minutes later she asked if she needed to call someone else and I told her no, that I needed to go through the system to see what was going on. After I checked gas pressures I started checking the filter and told her I needed to do a static pressure test but she didn’t want me to drill holes in the duct work or furnace. She again asked me if she needed to call someone else which at that point I was getting frustrated and almost wanted to charge her extra.
@Lewisfam085 жыл бұрын
Folks aren't paying for the actual part, or the actual labor, they need to understand they are paying for the "know how". Also, For example, if a capacitor goes on a heat pump, they need to understand they are paying for their Heat/ AC... not the part... we give them break downs in invoices so they have an understanding and for history purposes.
